    Hello! 😊
What is amazing to me is that no matter that pickup prices are closing in on 100K, people have enough money to buy them. And 600K for a house, no problem. I can't figure out where people get the money to pay for this.

Good Morning Mike, So, I bought my first Ford PU in 1973, an F250 Ranger 4x4 High Boy, received it with 15 miles on the odometer, cost $4000. I drove it for 30 years, including 5 trips on the Alcan. In 2003, I purchased another Ford, a 2003 F350 XL Extended Cab 4x4 with the 6.0 diesel. Cost $40,000. I plan to drive this one for 30 years too. 20 years in on the 350 still going strong and 4 trips on the Alcan for it. By the way, I still have the High Boy.

I think that you’re making the correct decision going with the gasser in the dump truck. I am a total diesel proponent, but for all the reasons that you mentioned, low usage and long term ownership, I too would go gas. The big concern that I have over the long term, is what is going to happen to the DEF system? It is so corrosive, how much is it going to cost to maintain or replace it in 10 years?? And like everyone is saying, diesels love to run…

The first piece of equipment I purchased was a used JD 110 TLB 40 hp backhoe ( no longer made). The backhoe sits in a cradle similar to the Kubota and is easily removed. Love it. Something else to keep in mind with on road diesel vs. off-road diesel is that most on road fuel is ultra-low sulfur now. Some equipment may not like the off-road fuel. I don’t had any experience with any such problems but a friend of mine brought it to my attention the other day. Our weather will be in the teens this weekend and back in the 70’s next week. Crazy SC weather.
One more thing and a little different than what Mike is comparing to choose from but the gas 6.2( I know he’s looking at the 7.3) is a turd compared to the 6.7! I’ll never choose another gas turd over the 6.7 for a work vehicle. Just my $.02. Love the videos Mike 👍🏼

Hi Mike. Some unsolicited advice. An easy fix for your snow pusher is to replace the steel cutting blade with UHMW plastic. You have to drill your own holes in the plastic but a 6" wide piece the width of the bucket gives you plenty of space to ensure the cutting edge is low enough and when that edge is "done" you can flip it over and have a new edge ready to go. I have asphalt drive and use the UHMW to protect the surface and it works wonders.

They make a stand for the backhoe attachment. Not using it causes issues when you try to reinstall it. The bleed off of hydrauliic fluid will cause the weight to push the unit closer to the ground. The outriggers and bucket will not stay put due to the bleed off. I've experienced this in the past and reinstallation turns in to a nightmare. I found a stand with wheels that allows me to move the hoe around my garage without issuses. And I just roll it back into position behind the tractor and connect it up. No sag as the base of the unit rests on the stand rather than the outriggers and bucket. Prior to using the stand it would take hours to reinstall. Now it takes minutes. Even if you put it back on before sag occurs you still have to line up the parts by backing the tractor to the precise place for alignment. With the stand you merely roll it into place. The stand is essential if you ever uninstall the hoe.

Hi Mike, I really enjoy your videos. I am retired but used to own an excavating company. We had several mini excavators, skid loaders and backhoes. I hope you’re not disappointed with getting rid of your mini excavator because they are much more versatile for what I’ve seen you do around your place. We were able to transport our mini excavator and skid loader together on the same trailer so maybe that is what you’re trying to accomplish with the backhoe. I’ll be interested to see how you like running the backhoe compared to the mini excavator in the months ahead. Good luck and keep the videos coming.

Mike, on the pusher, I don't know what kind of deal you have going on that but if faced with no other option, that can be fixed. It would involve some re-fab on the pusher plate. Not to difficult but time consuming and we all know labor is the largest cost. Without looking at one at this moment, I whole new plate being of little cost compared to reworking that plate so the loader connects at a higher location on the rear of the pusher. Interesting, I never would have thought about the loader arms scraping the ground when buying one of those things.

Mother and daddy required that my 2 brothers and I pay for our own cars and our own graduate schools. We did. In order for me to be allowed to order that car, I had to agree to learn to change a tire (that never worked with that car) and put chains on it. The removal of your backhoe is nearly identical to my JD 1025R. You’re correct in that the removal is a breeze. Hooking back up after pistons release pressure then stabilizers and the boom slump is another story. I’ve gotten better over the years, but I still have days where it’ll take up to 20 minutes to get everything properly aligned to drop back in to the carriage. I do have days where I’ll get it back together the first try in minutes, but it usually takes me 5-10 minutes. In the beginning, I literally would walk away after an HOUR of futzing with it. I can say now that it’s a good system and you just need some time to master it. I do recommend a block of some sort to support the main body to minimize the amount of slumping from the boom and stabilizers.

I always support my backhoe on wood rounds after removing it so it doesn’t slump. As long as the wood supports are in the right place, it slumps very little and I can easily line it up and re-attach it. But as the other commenter said, if it slumps, back up close to it, attach the hydraulic line, lift it back up and level it, then back up and hook up. Still fairly quick to do.

For the dump truck motor choice, I’m sure that the 7.3 will be ok for the use you intend.. I bought a 22 SuperDuty crew cab Lariat new to tow an ~8000 lb travel trailer. For the most part it’s ok but when we towed from northeast Pa. out west and back, I was disappointed with the power. One example was we were heading west across South Dakota with a head wind, the truck would stay in 6th or 7th gear going 60mph and got a whopping 6 mpg. On that trip we drove ~8200 miles and burned almost 1100 gallons of gas. In Utah and northern Arizona we were just about the slowest truck on the long climbs.. We want to do a trip like that again but I won’t go with the current truck. For now now we’ll stay in Pa. For our camping trips.

I would NOT want to pull 8K across the USA and back with a gas motor, less about the fuel cost, more along the lines of being the slowest truck on long climbs. Too nerve-wracking. Speaking of cost, diesel is higher than gas (the 7.3 burns regular, correct?) plus the added cost of DEF, not to mention the higher maintenance cost... so sure, you'd have saved some real coin running a diesel on that trip, but maybe not as much as people are thinking.

JD 1025r after 2018 yr model the backhoe comes off pretty easy. Has two pins to stop leak down. The outriggers auto lock when put up so they don't leak down. I made a wood cart to set it on when taking off and can wheel it around the garage. Can't beat the mower deck either. Have the 60d and drive over it and set the wheels and done. Auto connects, auto locks the deck in place. Works great if adjusted correctly! To take off, flip one lever, set the 4 wheels to freely move and set the deck height to remove and drop it and drive off. I finally got to use the snow pusher for first time after getting it last year and having no snow. Tried it on this couple of inches just to see and not liking it. Would rather have the 60" JD front snow blade. Will have to try it again if we ever get more snow like 8"+ would be nice.

    Morning Mike
I only have three attachments for my 'Butota', shovel, forks and drill, so when I plow the neighborhood, I have to use the shovel. I have found out it works great if I float it and pick up the snow & dump it outta the way. Works good for me.

If you had something like the HALVERSON HWP 150 attached to your skid steer you could pick logs up, carry them to your wood pile, and cut and split them without ever getting out. Would be much, much faster.

This snow we got around us im in Ambridge is great you don't even have to use the Medieval Torture device ( shovel) just breakout the snow blower and blow it off your walks and driveways just don't step on the covered walks or the foot prints stay! That snow will all melt after Monday but it gave you a job to do and that is a good thing!

In that same time the value of a home you my have bought in 04 has more than doubled twice but nobody wants to complain about that unless they are just now buying there first home. To be fair the price of pickups as described in 2015 was 58/62k in 2017 65/68 and my last in 2021 was 72k the post Covid increases were an anomaly and we see those prices backing off and will probably level in the 78/84k range by mid 24.. As far as modern pricing goes let’s also not ignore that a guy quit his full time job to become a RUclipsr and that channel through his hard work now affords him two brand new trucks, a fleet of equipment & trailers a sawmill a modern wood splitting outfit a vacation property with a $50k cabin and a pending $80k dump truck… Who was able to do that in 2004 ? Be careful what you complain about or compare with as you’d hate to have to go back to living within the means of your income of 2004…

It can be done. Just switch the hoses going to the boom valve with the ones going to the crowd valve. The other two valves are already ISO.

Hi Mike, just an fyi, DO NOT PUT YOUR HYDRAULIC HOSE'S TOGETHER ON THE BH 77 WHEN IN STORAGE! I did that on my BH 96 for my 2012 Kubota MX 5100 4X4. The back hoe was in storage for about 5 months and the cylinders must have relaxed a bit and I couldn't get those couplers apart without loosing a hydraulic hose fitting to relieve the pressure. Then I could get the couplers apart. It may not be an issue if it's for a short amount of time but thought I'd share my experience. Great video as always! Chuck from Wausau WI.
