The only tower on this list that is actually being built is the new JP Morgan HQ, which is almost complete. Everything else was either scrapped or never officially approved.
@@pauljackman7137dude every skyscraper is a corporate construction, it’s literally what the city was built on. If you don’t want corporations in NYC you probably shouldn’t be living in NYC
Rights it’s basically taking up its space. Those of us who know to look for it can see it. But everyone else will price once the crown is lit. Which will be cool.
The affirmation tower would look better if it was flipped around. I think everyone is so obsessed with making something iconic, that they are just throwing whatever they can at the wall and seeing what sticks.
270 Park is the only new 21st century skycraper in New York City that has any aesthetic merit and character consistent with the mid-town office area, much of which is skyscrapers erected in the 1950s and 1960s, such as the old 270 Park, built to be Union Carbide's headquarters. The new 270 Park subtly evokes the old 270 Park, and preserves the architectural feel of the neighborhood. Full disclosure-I used to work at the old 270 Park Ave in the 80s and 90s.
They seriously could have been more innovative with the Torch and Tower 5th because it seems like something that I had scribbled on some drawing paper in the third grade !
I absolutely cannot stand the Affirmation tower. That design is hideous. Evokes the saying, “just because you can do a thing, doesn’t mean you should.” Or more famously from Jurassic Park, “your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not that they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should…”
Unfortunately this height includes the antenna, which is kind of cheating. The roof height is actually 1,368 ft, which is close to or the same as the height of the former WTC towers.
NYC is not just midtown Manhattan. There are huge areas of Manhattan that don’t have huge skyscrapers. The other boroughs absolutely are not “concrete jungles”.
I understand why Chicago, Austin, and a few others are building more towers, but does NYC need anymore? Like wouldn't housing be a better use of land? Idk
These are taller than Wtc by roof height, and a couple of them are taller than Sears tower. I think skyscrapers should be ranked by occupied roof height.
It was a socialist fraud to begin with. Private owners should control their private property. Interested section of public can buy out via PERSONAL charity if the private owners find the price attractive.
How about the arch Building??? I’ve read something about constructing a building in the shape of U but facing down and they say it was going to be the tallest in the world I’m surprised they didn’t mentioned it 🤔🤔🤔
I really like the new JP Morgan building, the Affirmation Tower looks scary, to me anyway, usually we start with the biggest box and pile smaller ones on top.
Clickbait. Key word “proposed”. You know how many large skyscrapers have been proposed in the past 30+ years and have never been built? Hell go look up the WTC site renderings that came out a year after 9/11. I think 3 of the around 7 have actually been built. Be lucky if 2 of these get built. Btw only a couple look good. But least these are the giants and not these skinny skyscrapers. Although they look interesting as well in their own way. Like 432 park ave.
The Affirmation Tower design looks ridiculous. It seems to be trying too hard to show off and is unnerving to look at. Flip it “upside down” and it would look much better. As for the tower blocking the ESB, it is inevitable that this will happen. People forget that before the ESB, the Chrysler Building was the tallest, and before that, the Woolworth Building, the Singer Building (now sadly demolished), the Flatiron Building, and so forth. Each lost their title and their commanding place in the skyline. That’s the way it goes.
I never liked One World Trade's design. I think they shoulda made it resemble one of the Twin Towers. Part of me wishes they would have re-constructed the Twin Towers, making them SUPER sturdy, where even a 747, or Airbus 380, wouldn't cause them to collapse. God love NYC! No matter how many skyscrapers they build there, it will have a skyline unparalleled in America!
The scale of these towers vs the world trade centre are off as they are to their roofs compared to the spire so would actually be looking down on one world trade centre but will not be built anyway
Just do not understand why companies insist that employees have butts and seats in an office building if their job really doesn't require it. Understand manufacturing where you have to be in the plant to assemble whatever you are making. Thing is if your job is such that it can be done from anywhere in the world connected to the Internet why do you have to go into a central office? You should be able to measure performance on a job that can be done remotely.
I so hate it when they destroy iconic areas like this! It’s infuriating. There was a beautiful view of the Empire State Building from the Flatiron and now there is an ugly building in the way, completely destroying the once-iconic view. I don’t understand why can’t there be any laws prohibiting this.
Some of these building designs are just stupid. They want to defy physics at the risk of thousands of lives, only to go into hiding the minute a tragedy occurs.
Employers will eventually start forcing their workers to come back to the office as soon as they see the amount of actual work being done drop drastically due to inadequate supervision.
If built,Tower 5th will be the actual tallest building in the Western hemisphere by roof height of the actual building. One World Trade is only taller by virtue of the vanity height of a tall antenna. By roof height, it is actually already only second tallest in New York. And how is it possible for the title of tallest in the Western hemisphere to be "reserved"?
They won't do tower fifth . Not with the outdoor space. Not Like a space Odyssey game or a Star Trek ship. You inside? Are you outside? There's trees and benches next to couches and reading chairs? They won't. Three floors just to sit in instead of selling to office spaces?
These 'turds', like the decade old NY Times building 8th/40th St, could easily be built anywhere but, no, they have to gut existing (mostly) turd (many formerly gorgeous) bldgs, like the old Penn train station for ex., to do what? Put a turd in its place. No vision. Zero taste. And who suffers? Everyone as these bldgs are soulless unlike the many iconic buildings and theatres that have been demolished over the decades. If developers had their way, Grand Central would look just like the rest of NYC that at the end of the day no one but the developers care about. What developers ought to be forced to do, is put back the many, many gorgeous bldgs that have been torn down because what they've been allowed to do is a crime against all New Yorkers (and the world).
My thing is this. The Empire State Building is iconic. And will be as long as it stands. But that isn’t enough for me as a NYer who lives here and not a foreign owner that only sees dollar signs. As a NYer I want to see more skyscrapers built that are modern and will become the city’s jewels going forward.
Sad that DEI is still on the scene in building the last tower noted on this channel. Enough to say that the architect is a very talented architect from Ghanaian and just note that the construction firm was chosen for its expertise and experience. Let’s hope meritocracy was the reason these individuals were chosen and not racist DEI bragging rights.
The only tower on this list that is actually being built is the new JP Morgan HQ, which is almost complete. Everything else was either scrapped or never officially approved.
Welcome news.
The JP Morgan building is a monstrosity, an immense middle finger to NYC, and a monument to corporate fascism on a dying planet. Enjoy.
That's not true. The Torch is being built rn. I literally just walked by the foundation work this morning.

One World Trade is 1776 ft tall not 1700. It’s not just a random number, it has a meaning.
Why don't you mention the Commodore Tower, which is much closer to development than most of these and is actually in some of the photos you posted?
what a bunch of horrible atrocities! hope they're never built until we get a new generation of architects with actual taste
What always surprises me is how tiny the Chrysler building looks compared with the newer highrises.
Blocking the view of the Empire State Building was inevitable eventually with continued development...
Exactly and the city had to keep improving so sorry miss Empire your time is about to be over 😂😂😂😂
New York is about freakin skyscrapers. Anyone looking for cathedrals needs to move to Paris or Rome.
Walk down 5th Ave. And you'll see the Empire State Bldg. In full view.
The wrong height for One World Trade Center was given in the video “1700 feet,” the actual height is 1776 feet
Just like the year of the USA 🇺🇸 independence
Unfortunately this height includes the antenna, which is kind of cheating. The roof height is actually 1,368 ft, which is close to or the same as the height of the former WTC towers.
@@jayhpaqI was about to make that point but you beat me to it lol
Not really. The antenna is part of the height. So, not really. Really dumb.
This landscape is like a dream come true
When you're constructing a tower as big as this then you don't want to hear the words "building at a breakneck speed".

Architectural height works too, as long as it's a substantial and integral part of the building and not an afterthought.
I thought historic landmarks could not be destroyed.
Apparently Landmark Status is negotiable

Not sure how these kinds of skyscrapers handles ices in the winter? Will they be dangerous to pedestrians?
u missed out two big buildings - 340 park ave and 175 park ave
Additionally why so many glass buildings, giving their sunshine reflection pollution - in the summer so dangerous of these hot reflections?
