Awesome video! I have the BMPCC4k and just got the Andycine C7. I shoot a lot of 60fps (but in overcrank mode) so it shouldn’t cut out on me. Thanks man!
Random and unrelated, but why go with 23.98 as opposed to true 24? On my cheaper DSLR and mirrorless cameras, 23.98 is the only option, and I thought the ability to shoot in actual 24FPS was a nice pro feature on the BMPCC 4K. Any insight on that? Does it have something to do with syncing audio?
Weightless Films For guys like me, i think it’s just personal preference. But yeah, audio would need to know what you’re recording in so they can match it. Also, if you’re shooting for broadcast or Netflix produced films, something like that, they all have specific guidelines and rules. 🙌🏼
@@JustinPhillip Good to know! I'm filming at 24fps (BMPCC4K) and using a Tascam DR 60DmkII (w/Rode NTG3). I'm recording a Wave 24bit format, 48K sample, and 2G size. I'm syncing in post using a slate (typically manually). Is it just for the auto-sync features that I'd need to change settings? Or would there be another problem? What settings would I change to ensure perfect syncing? Thanks!
Weightless Films I honestly don’t know too much about audio, i just know that on every shoot, the audio person will ask me what frame rate i’m shooting in. Now what they do on their end with that information, i’m not entirely sure what exact settings they dial in on their mixer. Curtis Judd is a great RUclips resource for Pro Audio stuff. 👌🏼 @curtisjudd
23.98 is industry standard. Filmmaker IQ has a extensive video explaining why, but I don't think you really want to get into it, as it's too technical. Here's a link to it : ruclips.net/video/mjYjFEp9Yx0/видео.html ,
Thanks for the review, fun as usual So just ro be clear: you go from camera out to the splitter and from splitter out to Portkeys and to video transmitter. Right ?
Would you be able to address something like monitor lag/latency and solutions for it? I cannot STAND having that lag between what’s happening in front of the camera and the output in the monitor. Thank you!!
thank you so much for the video. Helps a lot. I wonder if the hdmi distributor works fine. It is able to give simultaneous signals to both EVF and external monitor without Daley? And there are distributors with power supply (not sure if this means it is equipped with regulator) and the one like Kramer VM-2hxl is very expensive. Do you know difference between them? Kramer is more for longer distance like 100m? And for camera rig with short distance, such device is unnecessary?
I was experiencing the monitors cutting out at 24 fps. True 24fps. So weird. If I unplug one of the two cables (CineEye or PortKeys) the feed comes back on. This has always been a bit of an issue for me as far as outputting multiple signals. I find the PortKeys interface to be very buggy and hit or miss on the connectivity. All of this just to skirt around Blackmagic not allowing a remote run/stop button outside of their app. Otherwise I'd stick with SmallHD in a heart beat.
Currently using an HDMI splitter with my BMPCC4k and nothing is working. The splitter works with other hdmi connections (pc etc) but doesn’t output anything from the monitor! Any ideas?
It’d be cool if you did a lag test where you displayed timecode on all three monitors, recorded them and analyzed the lag differences by frame. (Also a control test with just the camera feeding hdmi straight into bm5)🙂
Justin Phillip okay nice, I have a feelworld monitor with an hdmi out, but it’s not the best. I’m hoping to pick up a shinobi with this product for my cineeye. The ninja V is a great tool, but I wouldn’t be utilizing the recorder half of it, so I’m looking for something like the shinobi. Anyways, thanks for the reply
You are aware of you´ll maybve breaking the HDMI port of the Cam with using same VMount Plate to power Monitor and Camera? Well cause i had to send my cam in..
@@JustinPhillip technically I'm not an expert but has to do with the ground or something. Different frequency which can damage the connection, in this case the HDMI port. You'll find when looking for HDMI issue in Blackmagic cameras, here in yt

Wishing you continued success this decade ✌
Dave DeVola Thanks! Same to you!
You're the man. Keep up with the learning of new stuff everyday and educating us kindly.
Can you please explain more about that Easy Rig set-up you have at 01:00 ? Because it looks really nice & comfortable... :)
I like the the way you take your wardrobe to the Observatory. Good info. Yes, we do have some odd sounding birds in L.A..
With this hdmi splitter, do you notice any additional lag to the monitor, verses going in directly (ex: a few milliseconds/frames)? Thanks
T.J. Penton Will do a follow up on this topic! 🙌🏼

Great video! Sorry the question, kinda beginner here. Can you explain the "overcranck" mode?
Victor Hugo Roque I will do a video on this topic! But in the meantime, HFR mode, i.e. “overcrank” is anything over 24fps. i.e. 60/24fps or 120/24fps
@@JustinPhillip thanks, man! Great channel, keep the videos coming! I will wait especially for this one.

How is the latency on these?
I was bummed as hell when I found out I couldnt send a 4k out from my BMPCC4k to my Atomos.
optimumfilms I have the atomos Shinobi and it can handle it
@@isaacbedford3644 it gets a 4k signal or a 1080p? My NinjaV sees an out for 1080p monitoring, it just can't get a 4k feed to record.
BMPCC4K only outputs a 1080p signal

Bryony Morgan hmmm not sure - I had it going from camera to the splitter then from Splitter to monitor

Isaac Bedford Excellent! Will include it in a future video! 🙌🏼
How’s the latency? Can the hdmi splitter handle 60p framerates?
Garrett Samodel Nope
Justin Phillip I know you said the monitor itself can’t, but what about the splitter itself
Garrett Samodel Hmmm....well i mean if it’s sending to the iPad, then i guess, yes?
