WOW! I worked this program back in 1999-2000 in Wichita. I was in Boeing QA. We converted the first 2 in Wichita. The remainder of the conversions were done at Israel Aerospace Industries and Mobile Aerospace. I think there were 50 in total. I spent 7 wonderful months in Mobile, Alabama as a Boeing QA rep. The paint was accomplished at the Avex paint facility in New Iberia, Louisiana. I had no idea this video existed! Thanks for posting!! These were British Airways converted for DHL.
I have always thought removing the 757 from boring model lineup was a mistake. How long did this process take. There are many 757s that could be brought back to life this way.
Mods like this typically take a good 6 months. Because there's a lot of measurements have to be made VERY precise, and the aircrafts weight and balance has to be recalculated. A lot goes into these mods.

Instablaster...
Love the 757. Started my maintenance career on it.
This particular aircraft was delivered to British Airways in 1983, and entered service with DHL in June of 2002.
Isnt the same one that crashed as DHL611?
Nope @@ADMG2003
@@ADMG2003 no.
@@s.kirtivasen15699 ah ok
The music just nails the video. lol
+kevin1873 Yes!
More like the video nails the music.., they somewhat edit it
Yes
Classic late 90s
This was the first 757 I ever flew ON. British Airways G-BIKA Dover Castle. Great to see it had a new lease of life... It's now beer cans though. 👍
Man! They didn't simply convert the aircraft. They remanufactured it.
It's been reborn ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Boeings are best.
This aged badly
Scary how big a hole they cut into the fuselage.
Yes, I thought the same. I have flown this aircraft when I was with DHL.
That's how they do a BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter or SF in this case) they need to install the massive cargo door as you saw.
+Corin Close-Butler the company I work for converts American Airlines 757's to cargo planes for you guys.
I can tell by the blue bottom and circle on the nose this 752 went to BAW for a little while be4 converting to a 757-200P2F!
The music is a Banger tho
Sad to see this one is retired 😢
This particular aircraft is still in service. But yes, the 757 will be retired soon which sucks,
Aside from the music, this was a great video.
I don’t know, I think the music is alright.
The Music is a Banger.
Was it TOO difficult to put the RR badges back on the engines???
This used to be a British airways aircraft.
Yep
British Airways, there was also the official Coats of arms of BA: "To Fly To Serve" in 1:17. Or just look up the reg: "G-BIKI"
canuckleaf it actually was a British airways Boeing 757
Looks old how they repainted it in what seems to be DHLs currently livery, then into their old one!
At the time this video was made the old one was the current one, the yellow coat is the primer coat for the aircraft, all aircraft have this layer.

Wow, they turned an old passenger plane into a cargo plane!
Amazing for watch
Wow I love this
The overall design of the aircraft made it less efficient than newer models aircraft of the same weight class
Yes...
Maybe because it was developed in the 1980's...
Nice video.
Former British Airways Bird!
A Curiosity The 757 is G-BIKI but the rest of the video is G-BIKA
Sometimes when a plane is sold to a different airline, they change the registration
This fete was suffered by many ex ba 757s. I only know of 3 still used as passenger aircraft. G-CPEU\G-CPEV with Thomson
And one with openskies
All of them has been retired. Thomson, were later renamed as TUI retired their last 757 in like, 2021 if i remember correctly.
Seems like a pain. They should just order a freighter built from scratch.
They don't build the 757 anymore, and I guarantee it costs much less.
As today this aircraft is still in service with DHL
Awesome!!...✊👍
Isn’t showing up on FR24. Let’s hope she’s not scrapped yet.
@TrustyMarlin63 Yep, gone.
number 6 off the line I believe
If it was previously a british airways wy then there was no british airways logo and the tail was blanc?
Look at the nose and the blue underbelly, they are converting it into a dhl freighter
Nostalgia

Yeah are DHL plane G-BIKA
G-BIKA was changed to OO-DLN and D-ALEA, but before it was scrapped, it was reverted back to G-BIKA. G-BIKI was not changed at all.
