9:06 - If you're not a fan of plastic cladding, perhaps you'll be interested in the Oldsmobile 88 LSS, which has the dull styling to suit your tastes. You won't get all the gadgets, but you'll enjoy the same powertrain.
The Pontiac abundance of plastic cladding is a running joke on my reviews and the podcast…but also one of my favorite design touches on Pontiac’s of this vintage. I also find the Olds 88 to be quite handsome.
These were cool cars. My dad considered buying one back in the 90's. 1993 SSE 3.8L SC'd 205 HP 1993 Honda Prelude Si-VTEC 2.2L 190 HP I think the Grand Am of the time had more plastic body cladding. Or the Pontiac Trans Sport van!! Lol Some nice features on it back then!
I like those design cues taken straight out of german competitors like Hofmeister kink, the line of rear side window near c-pillar. This car looks really nice outside.
Had the '92 SSEi, Nice air ride. Eventually & unfortunately developed some electrical issues & rocker rust. The HUD was great & should be in every vehicle as a safety feature.
Such a beautiful 9th gen Bonne😍😍 My daily is my beautiful 04 Dale Jr supercharged supercharged L67 3800 Monte Carlo SS. And as a lifelong mechanic i've always sworn by the GM 3800 engines and have owned many W-bodies since they were still being sold new. This Bonne will last the rest of your life if maintained
Over here in cali I got a 1998 sse non supercharged for $900! another one is selling for $700 no issues 220k miles ! They’re pretty cheap over here. Best price I found was $2,900 in la for a 8.5-9.0 condition 109k miles sse no problems. Where are you located may I ask
Those sound like fantastic prices for non supercharged examples. I'm in California and the supercharged ones are few and far between...especially in this one's mechanical and cosmetic condition.
"Super Sedan" is a stretch with wrong-wheel drive and a 4-speed auto. It's a great cruiser, though. I'd happily take a 1992-1998 Bonneville SSEi on a long-distance road trip.
@autoobsessivegarage In that case, it was better than the M5. You couldn't (legally) drive the M5 any faster than the Bonneville, and M5s didn't have 500+ possible seating combinations. Not to mention the EQ on the stereo. And cheaper repairs you could do yourself.
i put countless miles on my 1997 bonneville sse. That naturally aspirated 3800 series II is really something special. Drove her into the ground. but one day bonnie will ride again
i have been looking for a 97-99 SSEi version of this car for a few months now. They arent "rare" but these cars rust out like no other. I have a 95 Grand Prix currently that has lived in MN all its life and doesnt have nearly as bad of rust as some of these bonnevilles I find and look at on marketplace.
The way most of these machines have been eaten alive by the rust monster. Might be worth sourcing a rust free example from Cali or Arizona. I hate rust.
I've got a 99 ssei in the garage with a broken transmission. After years of trying to give it away to someone interested in restoring it, it might be time for the scrapper.
Compared to most vehicles I’ve driven from this era the cabin remains fairly quiet at highway speeds. There is some wind noise above 70mph or so, but nothing drastic.
@@autoobsessivegarage l just found one A 2002 Bonneville SLE one owner, dealer says it was purchased threw an estate the owners past away! 33k miles on it clean as phuk? What y'all think he's asking 6 Grand 6,000$ for it
@@40streetblack79 that's a pretty sweet find. The SLE was more of a luxury oriented version...don't believe you can get the supercharger on that trim...but boy that sounds like a great car.
I’ve only seen two in my life. It was an option…and apparently a pretty rare one. It even came with those Supercharged badges unique to the SSE supercharged models.

It's all about that torque my friend.
1993 Bonneville SSE SC - 260 lb-ft
1993 Prelude SI VTEC - 156 lb-ft
Yeah buddy! Haha.
Im loving the interior❤❤❤ I have been wanting a 3800 for a few years now, what a prime example. The supercharger is a big plus.
Agreed. So comfortable yet so cool looking. The gauges are my favorite aspect. And heck yeah…supercharged 3800s are sweet.

It’s no secret that GM was chasing Euro design at this time (maybe still today). These Bonnies have agree really well.

Bummer to hear that rust got it. Agreed, the HUD is a great safety feature and cool at the same time.

Thanks a ton, it’s a stunning example. I love those Dale Jr. Monte Carlos as well.
honestly love my 01 SSEI in the beautiful brown gold color clean paint and i put a sound system through the whole car
Those are such underrated cars. That supercharger pulls.
That is my favorite year and I'm looking for one this year a sse or ssei
They are really sweet and super hard to find in this condition, but they are out there.

Still drive a 95 SSEI same color 225000 K Still gives 5.0 Mustang the problems in the city
Heck yeah, that supercharged 3800 is no slouch and dead nuts reliable.

All my humorous takes are stretches sir. You mean to tell me the Bonneville wasn’t an M5 contender?

They are notoriously tough to kill.
any way to up the power on the 93/94 ssei to match the power of the facelifted ones?
I’m pretty sure you can add the newer supercharger (Eaton M-90) to the older engines…you may have to tune air/fuel.
put a smaller pulley also a cam and high output coils and alternator with sum headers
95 non supercharged was the last 30mpg America made car, I think
That’s impressive MPG for a larger car.
you the man Chadwick!
Thanks man, right back at ya! Also, nice Bonnie you got there.
I can still smell the leather from my dads old 94 bonneville sse
So much flavor!

Oh man, that’s a bummer to hear. Is it in decent condition otherwise?
“Twilight sentinel” was used for decades by GM.
I saw that when I researched it more. Brilliant name.
Can you tell me what is the cabin noise level doing highway driving speeds?
Compared to most vehicles I’ve driven from this era the cabin remains fairly quiet at highway speeds. There is some wind noise above 70mph or so, but nothing drastic.
Are all SSE models supercharged? Great review BTW 👍
I found a one owner 1997 SSEi for about 10k. I’m not sure if it’s worth that much though.
have a link?
Really depends on maintenance and overall condition. Must be a real gem to be asking for that price.

Seen a TikTok where one found a 93 with 5K mileage at a dealer 🫡
That’s amazing!
I am thoroughly surprised here. I thought that you could only get the supercharged V6 on the SSEi, and never on the SSE. Really?

is that, a, lesabre?
All hail the mighty LeSabre.
I just got 1 today. 99 im happy just like when I owned a mark viii not to many on the road 🫡
Both are such cool cars. What color did you get?
Yea it’s silver
