That’s my car!!!! I wish I had done all the rest of my engine before you came to review it. Just upgraded the whole ignition system and did shorter engine mounts and it’s running cherry. Awesome video man
@trpremote I was thinking the same thing lol. 400hp with no intercooler, gen3 blower, and by the looks of it a 3.4 pulley. He obviously forgot to show us the 150shot of nitrous. Very good condition GP though, looks very well maintained.

That supercharged 3800 is a blast. All the reliability of the bulletproof 3800 that GM made for a long time. With the power of a eaton m90 blower on top of it. Such a cool car. Even 21 years later it's amazing to see one in such great shape. The 1997 to 2003 Grand prixs used to be everywhere but as a kid I always looked for the GTP badge on the door.
@@bwofficial1776 I did a look on autotrader, there aren't many for sale and the ones in good shape are about $10,000 now. I remember a time when you could buy these cars in good shape for $5,000 with less than 100k miles. I don't think you can even find them like that today .
That ending was downright poetic. Idk if you watch Regular Car Reviews, but your final thoughts on this car really made me think of his more serious reviews where things get deep. Love your reviews!
I think it's a great looking car for the era! I still remember the late 90's Pontiac commercials where they touted the Grand Prix's "Wide-Track" design echoing heritage ads from the 1960's. I had a 2002 GTP for 3 or 4 years and it was fun and reliable. A good value, for sure. I miss that car and wish I hadn't sold it. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see it on the road today.
That gray early-00s GM switchgear is oddly comforting. The supercharged 3800 was a sleeper engine and is easy to tune. This car is clean. It seems that Pontiacs turn into beaters especially fast so to see one running, let alone one that's in good shape is rare. Early 2000s Pontiacs all kind of look and sound the same. It's hard to tell the difference between a Grand Prix, a Grand Am, and a Bonneville. The ribbed taillights and curved sides are distinctly Pontiac. The one with four reverse lights always fascinated me.
It's extremely easy for me to recognize the differences between early 00's Pontiac sedans, especially since the Bonneville has an very pronounced wedge shape and an extremely distinctive tail light cluster with amber turn signals, the only Pontiac with them at the time.
Back in 2005 when Tokyo Drift was all the rage this dude I worked with at AutoZone had a very modified one of these. It was really fast for what it was. I wish I remembered his name, he was an awesome dude.
I got one without a supercharger and I love it same color I just love the body style and I rlly like the headlamp assemblies that red color is also just so good looking. The 3800 is a rlly good engine and the 4 speeds are reliable too i was able to get a 86 park avenue running after sitting for 6 years outside, you just can’t kill them
These and the Monte Carlo SS’s were seriously quick cars back in the early 2000’s. I’ve driven dozens of these at the dealership I worked at, and the only sedans you wouldn’t pull away from were the M Series or AMG’s. Even the STS Cadillac would haul with the Northstar…. at least until the head gasket exploded lol
Had my 2dr turbo intercooled GTX for 11yrs. Excellent car and I still miss it to this day. That one is absolutely mint! Good to see another 2dr still around in great condition.
I love this! I had a 2001 Pontiac GTP coupe but black. I replaced the stock rims and had 18” chrome ones that looked great! Loved the interior and the feel of driving this car. The gage you mentioned in the video with the fuel economy is spot on. I loved the “boost” part when you cracked on it you could see it go up and down lol. Just a fun car at a good price
I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP bought new. It’s somewhat of a money pit, but I know its history, so replacing it with another used car is not on. Can’t afford a new car. I still love the styling. It drives fine (adding front and rear strut tower braces and switching to synthetic power steering fluid helped greatly). Those strut braces stiffened and quieted the body considerably. But would still like to have a Bonneville. Thanks for this review.
I bought an '04 in 2016 out of desperation, because my Monte Carlo was totaled, and needed a car asap. It had about110,000 miles on it. I bought it because it was the only one on the car lot that didn't look like a mutation. I didn't qualify for a car loan, so I put it on a credit card. Not many places will take a credit card, because THEY want the interest money. Unfortunately, whoever had the car before me didn't perform oil changes, as there was a large amount of sludge in the oil pan when I had a remanufactured engine installed last year (2022). They also poured green anti-freeze in with the Dexcool. In the last year, I've replaced nearly every other component under the hood. I even had to replace the steering rack. It now has 238,000 miles on the car, but the engine and the other parts are only a little over a year old. I had to declare bankruptcy shortly after I purchased the vehicle, so I got it next to nothing. In spite of having to replace all of that, I'm glad I bought it. The 3800 engine is extremely reliable, as long as you change the oil regularly. I'm looking forward to keeping this car for the next decade or longer: hopefully I'll drive it into retirement. If I was making more money, I'd still probably own one of these. I still like it better than the new cars that I've rented while I had this one repaired.
I had a 97 GT coupe. I loved that car. I ended up seeing it years later once outside the gym I was going to. That car was awesome. Not the fastest but powerful enough to be fun. I had that car at 19 so it took a beating. I blew the tranny within the first year doing burnouts. My dad was kind enough to flip the bill because I was in college. Thanks dad. But it took way more of a beating than that but kept going. Loved that car would like another again... But in better shape lol.
You have great reviews! I cant believe I didnt have an GP in my life. Grand Am, G6, G8, but never a Grand Prix. GM needs to bring the Poncho back. Ugh...
My first car was a 2003 GTP. LOVED that damn car. I also ran into a guy who was selling parts off of a GTX and i bought the ram air GTX hood for $200. Oooooo man that thing looked slick. Made that thing straight piped and i was setting off car alarms left and right 😂
I was really into the W-body platform back in the day and remember day dreaming about getting one of these back in 2001-2002. I would drive to the dealer and look them over at least once a week. Recently, I was looking around the area and had seen an 02 for sale, dark red, just over 100k miles for $6k. I wanted it badly but with how old they are and the fact they come up for sale every few months and this one hide minor hail damage, I had to pass. I think there are better deals without hail damage for less. I might just jump on one of these but with that, I think i'd rather have the Monte Carlo with this engine.

What caught my eye was the front end it is similar to the Holden Comodore of this era and the comadore used the same engine but the comadore was rear wheel drive and in the later on built in Australia by GMH you got the Pontiac which was a rebadged Holden Comodore
Good looking car. In my early 20's I had a 1973 Firebird that was pretty ordinary but it was a blast to drive. It's pretty hilarious to think my 2023 Corolla SE has more horsepower than my old Firebird, but the 'bird could get out of its own way quite well.

Lol there is NO WAY dude pulled and additional 160hp to an engine by only swapping a pulley and doing a tune. Lemme guess this 3800 was a special one GM only put in a few top secret concept cars and accidentally ended up in this consumer car....aside from that how could u actually allow him to claim 400+hp without uncontrollably laughing?
I bought the orignal 1997 GTP new & fully specd out (1st model/year) and was the best American car I owned and loved until it starting fallint apart at the 25k milestone. Pure American junk and its no wonder Pontiac doesn't exist. Interior plastics and leather aged terribly, creaks and cracks everywhere at 10k miles, buttons print wore out, you could hear the wind and road noise at anything over 40mph. In closing a fun car, decent drivetrain for its time especially for a FWD "sports sedan" but honestly an overall terrible GM craftsmanship and build quality of a car. I had high hopes for my 1st ever American GM vehicle purchased in 1997 but instead felt like I bought one of those cheap 3d printed animal figures from a zoo and promised myself to never ever buy American vehicles again. #SorryNotSorry
Yes it's a ghetto car now but I still want one. When I was a kid I had a dentist who leased new Pontiacs every year SSEis and GTPs...eventually he got an STS I would've stuck with the 3.8 tbh

7:40 did you know dudes laundry would be in there?
Haha...maybe offered to do wash in his mouth idk
J/k
I have an 89 grand prix
Nice
My dad had 2 Pontiacs and probably would've had a third if they didn't get shutdown 🥲
i want that car so bad
Got a 99 gtp for sale 165k ,
The interior looks very dated to what is otherwise a very nice looking design.
Pontiac, grand pri the car for your neighborhood parolee , with an ankle monitor
Haha so true!! I almost bought a cherry 38k mi one from a lil old lady .great deal nothing to complain about. It was the image...didnt wanna be driving around in LA with a hood car. Altima is another one lol
@@gordocarbo nice ,agreed it’s a car at the end of the day but man it’s a car that sticks out like a sore thumb, i know a lady who daily’s a black grand pri and it’s like a sweet lady driving this thug wagon 🤣🤣🤣
It has weird and unsightly proportions.
Ah yes, a rare COPO car nobody knew about! Scientists snuck it out the back door and popped wheelies over coke cans with a 100 bill on their crotch
Just talk about the car
