    I once worked as a bus driver for GO Transit, a Toronto public transit commuter railway and bus service.
    Back in 2012, during a construction project at the Yorkdale Subway Station, they installed a temporary washroom trailer for the use of drivers and other staff. Unfortunately, one of the stalls had a tendency to lock its occupants inside.
    I reported the details to Transit Control using my cellphone. I told the controller I didn’t fancy the idea of them having to send out an announcement that my trip was canceled due to an operational issue.
    The controller replied, “Oh, no. We wouldn’t do that. We’d cite the reason as “operator error.”

    On the depth thing - there's an amazing project called "Down Underground" by Daniel Silva which shows all "London Underground" lines/routes as a graph of station and platform depths
    It's based on TFL data but it's from 2018 so newer/modified stations won't be covered
    I think it's kinda cool
    Of course all stations have 110 stairs and 15 floors *coughs* - see Geoff Marshall's videos on that 0;

    I think you 'yabbering on' makes your videos more interesting than the cab rides with just captions. It also feels more personal too, even though we don't get any mints. Are you aware of the history of that old viaduct just west of Hammersmith station? It used to go to Hammersmith Grove Road (which was next to the Hammermith and City Line station), then it crossed over the H & C and loop round to Addiscome Road (Olympia) on it's way to Waterloo. Before the Piccadilly line existed, the whole line leading up to Hounslow West (then called Hounslow Barracks) was owned by the London and South Western Railway. Hence why some of the station look so Victorian.

    Nice one - enjoyed tonight's ride. Two questions - probably FAQs for the LU, so won't be offended if you ignore them. (1) I always seem to be a bit lost in figuring out which lights apply to which tracks left/right - I guess there's a simple rule?, and (2) given the differences in rolling stock used by the different LU lines, to what extent do the regulations feel like separate rail companies that sometimes share tracks (like AMTRAK and the LIRR or MetroNorth do) - whereas to us passengers we see the LU as a single large corporation.

    Snazzy new intro... very professional... are you planning on doing something similar (perhaps with a reminder to like/subscribe/comment, etc.) at the end of your videos, too?
    Anyway, I certainly feel comfortable and relaxed riding along the Picc with you at the controls - and I'm perfectly sure that'd be the case if I were on board as a regular passenger, too!
    Finally for now, Dale... I know what you mean when you say a particular running signal will "never" clear if you don't approach it at a certain speed, but, of course, that'd risk bringing the line to a stand - so, I think it's perhaps worth mentioning that there are more-restrictive "secondary arrangements" (in the signalling) that come into play in such a scenario, in order to allow trains to proceed under clear signals, when appropriate.
    Thanks yet again for a thoroughly enjoyable watch!

    On the depth of the tunnels, Daniel Silva has made nice diagrams showing the depth profiles for each of the Underground lines. According to his information, Holborn eastbound is the deepest tunnel station on the Picc at 41 m (134 ft) below street level, while Finsbury Park and Arsenal are the shallowest at only 8 m (26 ft) below the surface. Interestingly, the Picc passes below nearly all other tube lines except the Jubilee, which goes under the Picc at Green Park, and the Bank branch of the Northern line, which goes underneath it at King's Cross.

    If you are switching directions normally you switch ends. Is there any circumstance that you would actually reverse the train without switching ends? I can see why you wouldn't normally do this as there isn't exactly a rear view mirror on a train so you would have problems seeing signals and any obstructions but I'm wondering if there are any places like in a depot where you might. 🙈 🤞

    • @dalecharmantravels8057
      @dalecharmantravels8057  2 дня назад +2

      Not as such. So we can reverse a train ( a setback) up to one car length say if I passed a red signal. We also have some thing called propelling from the rear. So if the train becomes defective ( one can is dead) then a driver can drive the train in reverse. However there has to be some one at the other end telling them what’s going on.

    And as you clicketi clicked in towards Hammersmith, i probably lied in my bed at Holiday Inn Express listening to the noice.. 😉 And a a little fin story, when we were going back to Heathrow on the following Monday morning (14/10). Our little three year old tried to wave to every train and emergency vehicle passing by all weekend, but no one waved back, as i could see. But the driver on this morning train did, and that made his day😀. So thank you to the driver who left Hammersmith for T5 around 6.35 that morning 😀

      When we press the close button the door chimes sound however the door won’t close until we release the button. I tend to hold it slightly longer to double check the station starter signal

    So we've had "I delayed the Piccadilly line because my doors weren't sure if they were shut" and "I delayed the Piccadilly line because I needed to pee". This game of bingo is getting very weird indeed.... Great video Dale, I'm one of the ones who likes the night trips, as you get to see a whole different side to the journey, I also like Uxbridge for the same reason. The variety is great. Thanks :)
