Have done 12 repositioning cruises. We love them. Often we take a regular cruise right before the repositioning cruise and stay aboard for the repositioning cruise. You are correct about meeting good friends and we have ended up later booking cruises with them. There are always wonderful things to do on board. The cruises are so relaxing and they are less expensive. We would encourage everyone to take them.
There's some misleading information here: 1) 24 hour buffet and complimentary room service are the exception, not the norm. 2) "motion" is dependent on several factors not least being time of year. You will have a much rougher crossing in the late Autumn, Winter and early Spring time. 3) Not all tran-Atlantic cruises or "one-way" cruises are repositioning cruises - the most prevalent being Alaska cruises. Also, circumnavigation cruises can be booked as shorter segments rather than the entire 3-4 month cruises.
Did one back in late Oct 2017 from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale. 15 days. Great crowd, no kids, halloween party. Smooth cruise. I guess can be rocky if they sail northern Atlantic diagonally to north America.
Love to go to the casino. Also, love to eat. Buffett isn't open 24 hours on NCL. Bermuda is a great place. Not a beach or pool person. I liked this video. Want to see a few more before deciding to join channel.
Suggestion: Bring a deck of cards and a small note pad to keep score. The wife and I play 500 Rummy several times during sea days on the deck to while away the time in a leisurely manner.
That depends on the ship. I am considering doing a transatlantic cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway and they have studio cabins. A number of Norwegian ships have those types of cabins.
My suggestion is to try to use frequent flier miles to book the one-way flights. I have a Chase Visa card that I use for every purchase possible and rack up enough miles that way. You are so right that one-way ticket prices are exorbitant!
It really annoys me when people try to make a video about cruising and then make huge but basic errors like this, or calling a ship “the boat” 🥴 or even little things like referring to their stateroom as their cabin. I’m just a pedant who’s looking forward to my transatlantic crossing on QM2 later this year hopefully.
@@JulieWallis1963 what irritates the Bejesus out of me is folks who can't appreciate the efforts of others who are trying to help. Who gives a rat's bum whether it's an ocean liner or a cruise ship. It's personal preference and oh by the way, back in the '70s folks did tune into the Love Boat ....so get over it. You're the type of person I tend to avoid while cruising on my boat and hope to hide from you in my cabin to avoid. Get a grip lady.
Except the terminology defines the attributes of the vessel. An ocean liner is designed to be more stable in high seas. A transatlantic on the QM II will be much more stable than on a cruise ship. And a boat is to a ship as a carriage is to a car.
I definitely had to give up the high heels while in the middle of the Atlantic. If I hadn't been sure I wasn't drinking, I would have wondered! Rock and roll wasn't about the music!
Desert is always better if you eat it first 😋 That's what I do most of the time. I have two repositioning cruises already booked. But, both go between the Mediterranean and the middle east for 20 days each. So, the water shouldn't be too choppy. Really looking forward to them. But, in about 2 weeks I go on a basic 11 day round-trip cruise. My only concern is how much weight will I gain? My first cruise was only 3 days so I didn't gain any weight. I really need to probably just eat in the main dining room, unfortunately 😒
I am on my next cruise now... 2 back-to-back Caribbean Cruises starting today. My biggest concern is the weight gain too. It’s so easy to indulge. But this is so much fun! Happy cruising!
We put on weight too easily too, so we try to use the stairs as much as humanly possible. We also go for a walk around the prom deck each day, especially on longer cruises.
I'll be on a transatlantic this June. Will the weather remain warm or should we bring warmer clothing? It's from Florida to Portugal? I can't find any information on this. Thanks, W

Thanks for your comment! Good idea to take a regular cruise on the same ship right before repositioning! I think I’ll do that next time!

Cracking video. Makes me cruisesick, my new word 😯
Thank you so much for sharing your memorable experience with us 💝
New subscriber. Looking for info on repositioning cruises and you popped up. Needed these tips thank you.

Great advice Libby! We have yet to cruise... but someday...
If you have taken a repositioning cruise from Miami to Barcelona, how was the weather temperature? We are leaving this year on 28 April to 11 May. TIA
Thank you for sharing
Does repositioning cruises offer solo offers
That depends on the ship. I am considering doing a transatlantic cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway and they have studio cabins. A number of Norwegian ships have those types of cabins.
Any suggestions on lesser expensive (1 way) return flights, thanks.

I liked your video
You guys had a couch!!???
Getting ready to do a 17 day transatlantic from ft Lauderdale to Italy, thanks for the heads up on the motion.
Does your Medical Bay point apply to repositioning cruises across all cruise lines?
Cunard's QUEEN MARY II is NOT is cruise ship. It is a transatlantic ocean liner. There's a BIG difference between these two kinds of ships.

Which times of the year has lower waves? Which oceans are more calm? How much do you on repositioning?>

Repositioning cruises have to be timed right. It's only twice a year. Best to be retired.
No mention of Marella?

@@LibbyRome Happy cruising to you too! Enjoy🍹
I just balance what I am eating and enjoy

Just signed up for transatlantic on royal in oct 2023 I’m excited!

I‘m doing a TA westbound from Italy to caribic. Got a guarantee balcony cabine on starboard side. 😢 The sun prediction is really bad.
love them and I am about to take my 6th cruise dec 4th crossing from Civitacchia to New York
Planning on doing Anthem of the seas next year May from Cape Liberty to Southhampton. What are the odds of finding people in the age group of 23-30?
Mostly true but just did a TA and had flat seas all six sea days. Depends on when you go. Loved it!
Nicely done vid, thanks, Libby.
Very helpful video. We're travelling transatlantic in April/ May. Thank you.
