    In older versions of Hypermesh, the Composite Browser may not be available. In that case, the ply/laminate can be created using the Model Browser as shown in this video -

    Hi Swapnil, nice to see you :) Your presentation of a composite plate impact was very good, however I would like to point out that in cases involving impact on composite structures we are usually interested in calculating the failure/damage of the structure, thus an appropriate (or more than one) failure material law (Hashin, Puck etc.) should be defined. In optistruct, this is done through the MATF card. As you know, it is possible for a composite structure to have failure in certain elements without failure of the entire structure.

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  3 года назад +2

      Hello Emmanuel,
      Thank you for the information! The MAT8 card can only define a 'linear orthotropic' material. According to my knowledge, it is not suitable for applications where stress crosses the elastic limit. Keeping this in mind, I designed this load case such that the maximum stress in all plies remains below yield at all times. So essentially, there in no material nonlinearity in this analysis (only boundary nonlinearity due to contact).
      As you mentioned, failure may be assigned using MATF to make this analysis more accurate. I will try to create a follow up tutorial to this where failure can be observed. Thanks a lot for your insights on composite modeling. This will be of great help :)

    Sir here you assigned material property (like E value, G value) manually to composite. But suppose i want to make a composite of E-glass+carbon fibre+powdered aluminum oxide using epoxy resin. I don't know the property of composite beforehand.How to make the geometry for the above composite? I am facing difficulties in making the exact composite. Could you help please.

    • @Aeroswap

      Hello Siddharth, in its standalone state, Hypermesh is not capable of modelling fiber reinforced composites. Only ply-laminate composites are supported. To do this, you have to link Altair 'Multiscale Design Modeller' with Hypermesh.

    How do you handle components with different laminates in the new composite tab? Do you asign the different plies (in a secound laminate) to a different set then? Also how do you handle a composites with different materials? (Asking because you asign the property with the material to the component directly) Thank you :)

    • @Aeroswap

      Good question! I dont think I will be able to explain this in a comment. Maybe I will make a separate tutorial about multiple composite components with different orthotropic materials assigned. I will focus more on using the composite browser in that video.
      Thanks for pointing this out!

    HI! Could you do a video on one and two layers of FRP retrofitting on beam or column specimens using Hypermesh.

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  3 года назад +1

      Hello,
      It is not possible to model reinforced composites directly in Optistruct. It only supports ply-laminates (orthotropics).
      To accurately define FRP, separate applications like Altair Multiscale Designer have to be used.
      I will still consider your suggestion and see what I can do about it. Thanks :)

    Hi Swapnil, I am also using 2021 version of hypermesh, even after following each and every step of this video, i am getting an error "case Control data DLOAD missing in bulk data". what could be the possible mistakes that i might be making ?

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  3 года назад

      Please check the type of loadstep you are using. It has to be 'Nonlinear static' as shown in the video. DLOAD entry is only found in 'Transient' analyis loadsteps and should not cause a problem in static analysis.
      If you have other loadsteps in the same model, try to delete them and rerun the analysis.
      Let me know if it works!

    • @suyashpatil1841
      @suyashpatil1841 3 года назад

      As of now there is only one load step with type as nonlinear static

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  3 года назад

      So the issue still persists? This should not happen as there is no entry 'DLOAD' in the static loadstep. I never faced this problem. Please make sure that the force load collector is not empty. Sometimes, we forget to change the current collector and the forces do not get stored properly.

      @@Aeroswap thanks, and just one question for you what is the best way to define our 2D elements size in order to have good mesh quality and acceptable simulation time

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  3 года назад

      Hello Harry,
      The average mesh size is usually decided as 1/10th of the smallest dimension in the component. This is for straight edges. For curved edges, smaller mesh size must be used to capture the curvature accurately.

    • @harrymaybourne4274
      @harrymaybourne4274 3 года назад +1

      @@Aeroswap Thanks, and we can adapt the size if we have different components by geometry. FoR instance one component has the smallest dimension of 1o mm, so we use element size of 1 in 2D mesh.
      Moreover if we have an other component which minimun size is 20 mm we can use element size of 2 ?
      Best,
      Harry

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  3 года назад +1

      Yes, definitely. That can be done. Just a quick reminder that this is only applicable for nonlinear/linear static analysis and optimization.
      For dynamic/transient analysis, it is always preferrable to use a coarse mesh. The time stepping is based on the smallest element length. Using a fine mesh will result in very long solving times. Hence, it is better to use a coarse mesh with simplified geometry when performing dynamic analysis.
