You’re the best teacher Dirty! I’ve been skating for 3 weeks here in London and your videos are a godsend, super clear and so encouraging. Thanks so much!
No joke I’ve been trying to nail this transition since I’ve started skating comfortably and I just got a lightbulb moment with your explanation of how it works. THANK YOU
LIFT THE HIP! That was the golden nugget of info I needed to do this successfully! Thank you so much Dirty- I can’t tell you how much you videos have helped my skate journey and how much I appreciate you listening to your viewers :) Your infectious enthusiasm always makes me so excited to go out an practice again!
I took the plunge today and skated a bunch the first time since I was a kid. I can't tell you how helpful and frankly inspirational your videos are. I followed all of your beginner tips, did my drills, took things slow, got low when I almost fell, and stopped with the knowledge that I'd be back tomorrow. Thank you for being a bad ass light in dark times, and for encouraging all of us (no matter what we tell ourselves) to get out there, practice, and have fun.
Something that might help those of you trying to get this. .. its 100% weight transfer from 1 foot to the other in the transition. Once you turn your foot backwards and you set it down you instantly put all the weight on that foot allowing the other to turn. good luck skaters. you rock Deb.
Honestly that helps a lot. I hate my brain and how it just refuses to grasp the simple concepts but absolutely nails cartwheels on wheels? Get it together brain!
@@MakerOfChase some of it could be muscle memory too. When your casually skating just lift 1 leg keeping all your weight on 1 leg while you roll. this will help strengthen your muscle memory for standing on 1 skate and will help your balance too. Keep trying you'll get it!!

Me too! I literally say them as I skate and it’s nice, after years of doing dance choreo and learning routines it’s the same concept and makes everything easier for me
Thanks Dirty!! I’m 46, was sitting at home with nothing much to do. But I’ve started learning with your lessons doing 10 minutes a day. Now, I’m moving to 20 minutes trying to get these transitions down! I have just a tiny amount of space in my kitchen to practice everyday but I so look forward to it! ❤️🙏🏿
Ahhhhhh I did it! I’m doing it! You know, it was really helpful and it clicked right in place when you put your back to the camera so I could see it correctly. Please do that whenever you can! Thanks for helping me finally nail this move! It’s opening up a world of new possibilities for me (hello downhills!!).
My GOD!! You were SO RIGHT about the head, shoulders, hips, feet thing! It feels so natural now after a while practicing! It's like my feet automatically know where to go after turning the rest of my body first! You're such an amazing teacher thank you so much!!
I'm 53 and hit the rink this week after 35 years. The arms in the air thing is the scariest. I came home and got on you tube to see wth I was doing wrong. Your channel was the first one to pop up. I believe Fate brought me here. Like seriously ❤
I'm 65 and just coming back too after decades as well. You are so right about the arms in the air, yikes! Yep, it took me down flat on my back, but I had all of my appropriate gear on so other than feeling a little sore, I'm am determined and still at it. The return to skating after all this time is a progressive journey and we are all a work in progress. You will do well, this is channel is amazing and she is really in tune with her subscribers needs. Welcome back!
You are the best teacher Dirty! I just got my skates on the weekend and after two times trying to skate I finally "committed" and what a difference I felt! You were truly made to skate and to teach! Thank you for doing what you do and spreading this joy
You are definitely making the best roller quad skating online lesson, because you talking about core, posture, upper body and explain all about how to move all the body, this so important and much more for someone like me with a medical condition to practice safely and enjoy a lot. Thank you !
The ‘lifting your hip’ part was sooooo helpful! Thank you so much for your incredibly helpful video’s. I like the way you teach us the basics. A good basis is so important! Greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you so much. I followed your steps and I did it 🎈 I used my hip. Just as you said, it works. I did not have to lift my foot. Omg, you are the best teacher ever.
I just love your videos. I used to be an experienced skater. Heck, I skated everywhere. Why walk when you can skate? That was my mentality. Well after a 33-year hiatus, I feel like a beginner again but I plan on going to the rink twice a month. I live far away or I'd go once a week. You are so approachable. I am not a small woman and I do have knee issues but I decided I'm going to get back to what I used to love doing. Never too old at age 51 to be a skater again, right? Right! Thanks for being so fun and funny. Your videos make me smile and just wanna get out there. Thanks so much, Dirty!!
OMG... you are amazing!!! Just looking at the way you teach I feel like getting in a plane and really to have fun skating. I’m 45 years old never roller skating in my life. Getting a pair of rollers skates I’m ready to virtual learn. Thank you very much. I can’t wait to experience the freedom.
So so so so so happy to have found your videos! Such a brilliant combination of funny, approachable and amazing teaching! I've never been able to fully grasp what's happening in skating videos, but you break it all down so clearly - I may yet learn to whoosh and dance about on my skates :) Thanks Dirty! xx
I have now watched this so many times but I am getting there! It is one of the few videos what explains that you need to lift your hip and point your toe. That really helped me. I just need to get better at bringing the original weighted leg over at the end. I have seen folks say you can either transition pointing your toe to pivot on front wheels or shifting weight on your heels to pivot on back wheels(for the leg/hip you are lifting) I think it might just be what you feel safer doing...so just tossing that out there in case it helps someone. with most things, there are many approaches. I find this video to be the best standard but again if you are struggling look at other techniques in case it helps. The mechanics of this video though are golden.
Oh my goodness! I love watching you and am excitedly awaiting delivery of my skates so I can’t start learning for real! To start putting into practice what you’ve shown me so far.
I got Moxi Rainbow Riders recently and had to loosen the trucks quite a bit. They were so tight! I couldn’t imagine even attempting transitions with the trucks that tight but now I have them loosened and my skates glide like butter! I’m watching this video in preparation for all of the cool stuff that I want to learn now that my trucks aren’t super tight!
Its so good to binge watch your beginner lessons while waiting for my skates to arrive…i literally laughed out so loud while watching this lesson…Thanks ❤️…you’re such a fun person …this skate journey is gonna be amazing with you❤️
Another daunting manoeuvre, broken down into easily manageable steps. Beautifully demonstrated and explained so we can all accomplish it with a little bit of practice. Many thanks 👍
Your videos and teaching style is the BEST! Thank you for breaking it all down and explaining everything. It's so helpful! And you are so funny too! I'm learning and entertained, thank you!
Bought my skates near the end of April and have finally worked up the courage to try this today. I fell once, but got back up and tried it again. Talked my way through it and I was able to do a freaking transition! It may not be the smoothest, but I did it! Had to tell myself to keep my foot down!
I have just bought Rendell skates yesterday. Never roller skated before. Went to basket ball court, sweeped it and off I started for the first time. Watched your videos last night to learn to stop GOT IT!! then took a break and went back and got the speed and can criss cross. Ice skating has helped but the WHEELS make it a whole new ball game. Excited for tomorow may just try the turning. FALLING well that is getting low but figured how to get up. TOE stops are our best freinds. Cheers HAVING FUN

The way you explain things is just SO HELPFUL! I wish I could take lessons with you in person; you're such a fantastic teacher. I stumbled across these videos looking for an easy way to refresh my 30+ years stagnant skills LOL I skated all the time when I was a kid even after breaking my right wrist in a bad fall (a kid pushed me hard forward while I was in motion and my front skate wheels got caught in a wide crack in the asphalt 😵💫) Anyway, I will be doing this video when I get home today as my pre-skate warmup for an event tonight in Yonkers NY. Hopefully I'll be roll-bouncing in no time 🤩🥰😍 Thanks for posting these videos. This city-chick-in-the-country with no skating resources close by really appreciates them ❤️❤️🛼🛼
