  • Understanding lathe tooling, what it does and how it works is a big part of refining finishings and maximizing tool wear and tear. There are a lot of options, so it can seem confusing, but it really isn’t once you understand the basics.
There are five types of lathe tooling, external tooling, boring bars, drills, thread-making drills, and parting tools. All of these tools work together depending on which application you are looking to accomplish to make a part. Throughout the video we go into depth on what each one is used for, and how they do end up working together to create the part that you are looking for.
Lathe tools can also come in three different varieties, left hand tools, right hand tools, and neutral tools. This is exactly what it sounds and goes on the left, right or middle of the part you are looking to cut with the lathe tooling.

I'd love to see more lathe videos. There is a ton of material out there for how to use the mills, but my lathe gets some neglect.

I found the back and forth hard to listen to.
Chris: "There are five types of lathe tooling.
    Rebecca: "External turning tools..."
C: "... which work on the outside of the piece you're turning;"
R: "... this includes roughing and finishing work."
It's sounds like good info, but the pacing and sentences split up with different voices makes it hard to absorb. Imagine writing this all out, but switching fonts every half-dozen words. It wouldn't be some great challenge to read or anything, but it would make it needlessly disjointed. It might look/sound "dynamic" and "interesting", but it gets in the way of the information.

I agree, it would have been much easier if one person explained one tool and its uses then the other explained the next tool and uses.
