    Working as a doctor in this country is so challenging the pay is good and some don’t mind overtime but the conditions are horrible and room for growth and specialising is so limited . The working conditions actually put you in danger in terms of losing your license due to malpractice cases

    Fixed overtime here refers to after knock off time 4pm. Its when they are on call. I doubt it would be practical to hire doctor's that work only at night as their basic. Those who opt out of doing calls which is very rare don't get the fixed overtime. It referred to as fixed overtime coz its a fixed number of hours every month.

    The department of health clearly does not employ the smartest of people to run the department. Overtime is more costly than normal time, so why not employ more doctors to reduce the overall people cost? This will also reduce fatigue and the related errors which contribute to poor health care and even premature deaths in our country 😢

      @fentsemoyana Год назад +3

      Overtime is roughly about 30k for the month ,employing another doctor to work those same hours would mean paying around 60-70k to that doctor,so it's essentially cheaper to overwork doctors rather than employ new ones cause they need to make the basic pay that other doctors make...(working laws )

    • @hope1527
      @hope1527 Год назад +3

      @@fentsemoyanaNo, R30k/month/doctor if that. You would obviously not higher a doctor to work what would have been a single doctor’s overtime, but a number of them. Overtime is time and a half. Normal time is just time. If it were so much cheaper to higher less workers and pay more overtime, instead of more employees and less overtime then that is what the private sector would mostly do. Overtime is meant to fix a short term man power issue and not be the norm.

    A Medical Doctor who does not want to do the most stressful overtime ? Then the Rural allowance? Meaning Doctors not working in the rural areas? From your calculations, that take the salary to R100k. About R40k is the overtime and rural allowance. The truth is the Salary of a Medical Practitioner in South Africa 🇿🇦 is R60k before tax and other

      @liferesetwithboni I mean the basic salary of a Medical Practitioner. Without the extras which most Doctors are pressed to do, neglecting their families and personal health. Go deeper into this. Look at the Mental health. Most do the overtime and work in rural areas simply because they cannot afford a middle class life. I mean those who avoid debt. South African Doctors are underpaid, if you look at normal 40 hrs a week job.

    This DOH is something else. When you contact one of them to ask in advance about placement just so you prepare yourself and know what to expect, they’ll discourage about applying outside of the state but yet tell you that there's no guarantee for placement as a bursary holder but youll need to give them at least three months before you start applying for private posts cause should they contact you for an offer and you cant take it then you should pay the bursary money back 🙄. So now what must people do, sit at home and wait for an unreliable government and when finally posts are vacant corrupt individuals are placed they decide to put ghost employees so they can put money back in their pockets.
