  • We rode from Toronto to Montreal in Business Class on Via Rail Canada. On this short one day trip they served us drinks and meals on board and we had access to the lounge in Toronto. The scenery was great and the staff treated us well along our trip.

Considering you get meal service AND alcoholic drinks included in the ticket, VIA Business class is good value for money, especially if you get an advance fare. My wife and I like to take it when we do a weekend away in Montreal, even on the 2 hour run from Ottawa you get a meal and wine

I was so excited to see this and not without good reason. Oh, the food looked amazing! The views especially lovely. Some dwellings looked really a lot like the USA. Some buildings were architectural wonders. This trip had everything, including the larger bedroom. In other words, I loved this one too. ❤

Rode Amtrak from NY to Montreal and had a full day to explore. Lots to see and do from my hotel near the train station. I have some back and knee problems so my one requirement was the hotel had to be within a couple blocks of the train station. Didn't want to deal with transportation! As luck would have it, that put me on the main street where all the bars, restaurants, and street fairs were happening that day. GREAT CITY, Hope you enjoy your stay!

As you know, I watch all your videos. I like the captions you've recently started adding, which are great for hearing-impaired people. But, part of what made your videos so great in the past was the commentary from both of you. It was like watching and listening to a tour guide pointing things out to the tourists. For example, what river did you go over toward the end? You used to describe and talk about the food you were served on Amtrak, but in this video you just displayed a caption for what you both ate. I really hope you keep the captions but also go back to the running commentary. It's what separates your videos from the rest of the videos other people post. Thanks.

My girlfriend and I we're thinking about taking the train from London to Kingston, however after looking into it I think we'll just drive or go somewhere else entirely. For those prices I was honestly under the impression that you would have your own cabin and be able to walk around. If I wanted to sit in a seat for 7 hours and stare at the headrest of the seat in front of me I'd take a bus.

I have taken Via Business Class from Toronto to Montreal many times over twenty years.
Sadly, during that time, the service has diminished noticeably.
At first, the food couldn't stop being served during almost the entire length of the trip.
Now, it's a meal and that's about it.
During the first few years, a glossy menu would be handed out to EACH passenger in order to select the meal they would like.
Then, only 1 menu to be shared between the 2 passengers sitting in the same row.
Now, the porter/server would read out the choices to you, the menus have been eliminated.

There are many films about trains on the utube and that maybe the way rail fans express there delight, by sharing the experience. A one-way business class seat from Toronto to Montreal costs $354 including tax, more than what it would cost to fly from Detroit to most destinations in the Inited States and some in Mexico. Via charges massive fares, in par because the rail lines are own by CN Rail, which holds Via hostage to pay rates far more than what CN charges Amtrak in the USA. Freight trains always get the right of way, so Via trains are frequently delayed so freight trains can pass. That eave Via cash-starved and providing awful customer service. The Via crew does the best they can in tough circumstance and should be appreciated. But no country has passenger train service that is so costly, slow and plagued by delay -- average route times have grown longer and longer since the 1970s while service to many smaller towns and cities has been discontinued. There is neither high speed rail anywhere in Canada nor plans to build that capacity.
