She says sorry Robert we decline your offer, and then he says “I’m out”. lol. It’s like breaking up with your girlfriend but then she says she’s breaking up with you. 😆
Moderately interesting point, part of the format requires every Shark to say ‘I’m out’ so the show has consistency. Cuban said when he asked the production team why they had to say it when it didn’t always get included, they said when they are in the final edit, if a show is five or ten seconds short, it’s far easier to just go and add a few clips of them saying ‘I’m out’ to fill the runtime than go back and edit the existing clips.
This was definitely a pointless ‘added for time’ one here wasn’t it!

As a man with curly hair, I'm mystified by how blind Robert was with the before and after. Some men see the details, Mark...I hate the "men, ug ug, only see hammers and sports and trucks ug ug".
I don’t have Afro hair but my brother does and I always have a look at the curly hair products in stores (even use some myself as I have really thick black hair) and it’s always much smaller than the sections for straight hair. I think it’s a great thing that there are more company’s like this, hope to see more company’s like this in chemist stores around the world.

Yeah play capitalized on modern-day laziness this type of product used to be made at home for like $2 but since COVID everyone just wants to buy something instead of just making it yourself

They were great, I hate when the argument is “you can do it at home” or “hair products exist, makeup exists”, yes, but people pay for things they can do themselves all the time, and new brands selling in the same product categories are successful all the time, these two are smart and creating for an underserved market, can’t miss

Ladies and getlemen, this is why you need representation on a show like this. I'm sure a shark who is a black woman and understands the problem space would have jumped on this opportunity.
This is a big problem for a lot of black women, I mean from Afro-germans, to Africans, to Black Americans, to brown Indians, to Arabs. I know what my wife, sister, friends go through to home make flax seed gels. It's stressful to make and maintain.
There is a reason this company is now worth more than 25 million.
They definitely made the right decision. The fact that Robert could not see the difference in the hair shows he was not a good partner for them😂

Entrepreneurs do what called Future Time Value of Money calculations which is why they counter with "future" profits as reasons why they countered lower. The Sharks, especially Robert, do what called Present Time Value of Money calculations which is why you'll always hear him say the word "today" when defending his stance. He said it in this video and you'll here it in others. He is focused on investment fundamentals which is great!
There is a concept within TVM lessons that says "a dollar isn't worth more than it is (today)." That means, the value of his investment is the best "today" so he offers deals based on today when his money is worth the most. Entrepreneurs tend to lack this understanding and don't notice the key word "today" when they negotiate so they often over value their company "today" because they are places "future" value on "today." Since these specific Owners and Robert were speaking in different languages using different paradigms, a deal wouldn't be reached naturally.
Robert was spot on and reasonable for the risk to reward in a space with competition that are Super Giants and can easily knock this off.
Glad to see there are reasonable investors with big platforms like this setting a good example and Robert stuck to his guns and rightfully should have since he was being rational. On the Contrary there is the stock market and people are paying for shares of companies at a premium of 50x earnings and higher. Complete insanity
In my opinion, this couple is being shortsighted. If their current problem is not having capital to buy inventory to fill back orders, how is turning down $400k going to help them grow? If they had other ways to borrow money, they would have done it already. It's not just about the money, it's the marketing expertise, business acumen, and networking/business relationships that Robert can provide by partnering with him. If they work with him and prove their business is sustainable, wouldn't they think Robert could provide additional funding to grow the company even bigger? 20% equity is more than fair for the risk Robert is taking. Right now, he can put $400,000 in a CD for a year and earn over 5% or $20k with zero risk of losing a penny of his investment.

They made a huge mistake. It costs pennies to make flax gel at home. People may buy a bottle then they’ll start making their own. 25bucks a bottle cannot compete with 10cents a bottle.

Originally I think they were going to do just that but I think the Sharks nixed that idea because it would’ve limited entrepreneurs willingness to come on the show.
That was a good deal but Robert might not be the right partner. They were after one of the women sharks.

Robert tried taking advantage of them.. the world does not revolve around the Sharks... They wouldn't have taken any "Sharky" offer after being treated as if they didn't know what they were doing... after presenting their numbers and showing a large amount of success in their business. They already got "WOW!" with their numbers and then the Sharks likely tried defending their Shark friend by not making offers, or did not want to go in competition with her or look ridiculous for doing so. They went on the show in competition with one of the Shark's businesses and got compliments for their numbers, and refused a bad offer. They did the right thing by refusing, after being treated that way.

I’m glad they changed that awful logo. It reads much better today and has a professional look. This old logo in the video looks like it was done by a 12 year old using stock fonts.
As someone who’s been watching the show for years, I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone turn down a great offer from a shark by not being able to understand and see the vision or longevity of value a shark would’ve brought them.. as mark used to say: “seems like they only came for the publicity”
