Mark doesnt even know that each package has to be fda approved but tries to comment on it like they are being shady. If you dont know just ask question or go out. Just made him look unaware.
Mark is VERY unaware of a lot of things but just talks like he's always right. That's the basis of his whole career, getting Yahoo to buy his doomed website.

Mark has an online pharmacy. Most likely why he took the position he did. And also, instead of directly answering questions about the profit, they tried to double talk and throw out all the jargon, ie unit price ect ect. There's a huge difference from saying we reinvest all the "profits" and being profitable. When people do that, you tend to lose confidence and start to question everything else. And they asked for a crazy evaluation.

He is correct, my employer makes USP silver nitrate crystal and every time there's a change in the documented process the FDA has to approve it .
For drugs, it's a contamination issue over long storage periods in different environments and exposures so the bottles need to be tested. Bottles of water have expiration dates because the plastic breaks down after a while and your water starts absorbing the plastic. Mark seems a bit clueless about the process.

I can see where you're coming from haha. But I think some investors are just really tired of seeing all these businesses with insane valuations when there's little work to show for it, especially in the Silicon Valley scene. But then these guys had the numbers to show for it so.. Meh

I think Mark trying to push them along doesn't have to do with him being apprehensive about the company. In interviews the sharks always talk about how the pitches are usually 45-90 mins in length and that the entrepreneurs can stand around talking for long periods of time or dragging it out (understandable, they are making an important decision). But, they are on somewhat of a schedule and have to keep things rolling, its a show after all. I assume this pitch was dragging on a little too long and Mark was getting irritated and trying keep the show moving along, if you will. They had their offers, and might have been dragging their feet in making a decision. Seeing the massively edited episode doesn't provide the full picture.
@@chrisbryan89 he owns cost plus drugs, he was just being a hater here. he called "bs" on them spending money on RnD given theyre using OEM drugs just like his company is, but he didnt even know the basic FDA regulations that are required with each new packaging design. theyre a direct competitor to his company, and imo they do it better than he does. if he was actually smart, he would have bought out the company and integrated it into his. but his ego got in the way

Mark doesn’t offer them congrats - he ALWAYS does that! He doesn’t like that this is a better packaging than he has. He could have used that as his reason to go out but he was petty instead and tried to slight their business.

@@agylao6894This is likely it. These pitches are 40 minutes to two hours long and need to be cut for TV, they just dramaticized it. While Mark was ignorant and lowkey arrogant, it isn't as bad as it seems.

Isn’t mark in the medicine business, it’s logical that drugs need to be tested in their respective packaging to make sure their composition and potency in conjunction to the environment stored has similar results with their previous packaging

Mark knew they were just trying to pay off some debts when they said they're "profitable on a unit basis", BUT that they're "investing in research and development". Digging yourself into a ditch to pay for Investing in research and development just to change a pill bottle while you aren't even breaking even doesn't make sense. It sounds like they got themselves into a bunch of debt and are just trying to dig themselves out..That's what Mark was commenting on. They're putting their company at a 20 million dollar valuation when they can't even break even.

Bruh Tony's just too nice lol. This was definitely more appealing as an equity deal, because Tony was betting on the fact that the business could go very big, although risky. A 2x return on investment with half the equity is more of a deal that looks at the short-term that makes a small profit from investment.

Hold on. The FDA can have a say on the package it's sold in, but not the container it's dispensed from. I could use a cookie jar if I so please. I think we are overthinking the FDA approval process.
Not if you're selling commercially. There's a reason why pharmacies like using the orange pill bottles. Stuff in the bottle itself can break down over time (this is why water bottles have expiration dates) and some drugs need proper protection from things like sunlight and moisture or else their chemicals break down as well. It's not really rocket science to understand why the FDA looks at how a drug is stored.

I don't think Mark likes these companies that come with huge valuation. He's more of a fan of helping out mom and pop-type, scrappy-type entrepreneurs with a story.

So let me get this right, they give away 7% of their "81M company" for 500k and they need to return 1M to investors and still lose the 7%. This is when they are making tens of millions in revenue each year, and they will be profitable next year. This sounds like a terrible deal to me... idk....

I am not against the idea, I think people will think it is a great at first. I have health issues, I take a bunch of different pills everyday. It gets hard to keep track of medications, especially as you get older. People travel and take their medications with them. I know saving the environment is awesome. At the same time the issues with many products is not that there aren't other options, it is just there aren't convenient ones. Cleaning the glass pill containers, transferring them from a pouch to that container, than to a weekly pill box, etc.. It doesn't seem like much, but many of their customers are going to be people that need the medications,
I think there are and will be a lot of customers as long as the prices are competitive. See where they are in 10 years.

Why not market these bottles to pharmacies? That to me seems like the easiest, most profitable and the biggest way to offset the problem they are trying to cure.
Because the bottles aren't their point. It is eliminating plastic in the refill process. As well as offering more affordable medicine.

It wasn't really about the money. With most of Barbara's shark tank companies, she owns a large chunk of equity, and likes to take full control of the ordeal. The 2.5 percent of equity just wasn't digestable. 😂😂
