Sorry I haven’t been uploading much recently, everyone. Been kinda busy but plan on trying to make more content for you guys. Here’s a short and sweet video of the SKEETIR thermal being used on the HK416D. Enjoy.
That’s kinda neat. Didn’t know that. I don’t really mind the menu being off to the side where it’s currently at, but that’s good to know for future reference.
I do have some video but it honestly doesn’t look too great through my phone. Looks a lot more pixelated and grainy than it does when looking through one in real life.
@@ZzBiohazzardzZ Hell yeah man. Good to hear. I have a couple of vids planned but I’ve been so busy lately it’s hard. Thinking about doing a 10k round “review” on my Glock 45 that has a Radian Afterburner and ACRO P2 on it
@@WheelchairOperator how does it work? Can it work with higher mounted sights, does it uses the dovetail or does it need the mount replaced like the Unity mount. Stuff like that.
Have you tried running the SkeetIR without a magnified optic? Like for example an eotech? I’ve seen pictures of people doing it but wondered how “well” it would work. Awesome setup!
Tons of options out there.. ADM makes a small riser that roughly brings it up to Unity height. I’ve also seen people use the Unity FAST made for EoTechs with the Wilcox flip mount, too, to bring it up to that height. Kastle, Overbore Systems (they’re coming out with a new mount similar to FAST), Irregular Defense, etc all have options, too.
@@WheelchairOperator I guess how someone would go about getting a 416 upper and the geissele accoutrements. More info on the clip on thermal and its mount. Any issues with suppressors and 416s. Why the T2 over RMR (because its enclosed)? Mainly info regarding the cost and procurement of 416 stuff. EDIT Also, what are your thoughts on the Brownells 416 stuff?
@@jorjorcat I think I covered everything but if you’ve got more questions, just let me know… - You can find legit 416 uppers online via TacSwap and sites like that. Plan on spending 5k if you want a real 416 upper. - If you want an original Geissele SMR 416 rail, you’ll have to find one on the secondhand market. They pop up occasionally. Took about a year of searching to find the SMR 14.5” in DDC. The 10.3” variants seem to be easier to find. - The thermal is a BAE Systems SkeetIR-L with a Wilcox Oasys Flip-To-Side mount, both of which can be found on TacSwap for 4-5k depending on condition and what all comes with it. - I’m not a super huge fan of RMR (reasons such as the notch filter, weird slightly magnification, etc) and wanted something with an enclosed emitter. - My opinion on the Brownell’s clone stuff is fairly positive. I like that they have brought 416 pattern stuff to the market at an affordable price point. I have friends who have built complete BRN-4’s and they seem to like them. I hope Brownell’s does another run of lower receivers.
@@WheelchairOperator Thank you for the info, its very helpful. Do you know if there are compatibility issues with the BRN and AR15 lowers? Also, Im assuming normal AR15 barrels cant be “converted” to use with the 416 gas block? I would be interested in building a 14.5 HK build with a geissele rail (mlok, not the old style smr) - my concern is the quality of barrel offered by Brownells. Any suppression issues?
@@jorjorcat - Yes, you can run a Brownell's BRN-4 upper on a normal AR-15 lower, but you wouldn't be able to retrofit an AR-15 barrel to accept a 416 gas block and stuff like that - The Brownell's BRN-4 barrels are made by Faxon, so they're not the nicest barrels in the world, but they aren't trash, either. They'll certainly get the job done. - Highly recommend getting the actual H&K brand tungsten filled heavy buffer, especially if you want to run your build suppressed. It's 6oz, so just slightly lighter than an H4 buffer and heavier than an H3. That's what the 416 in the video is running and works extremely well suppressed (suppressors used on it have been the Surefire RC and RC2 5.56, RC2 7.62, MINI2 7.62 and the 300 SPS).
Hello kind sir! I have an HK MR223 14.5" and I wish to buy a Geissele 14.5" HK 416 Modular rail for my rifle but if my HK is 14.5" long, the rail it will cover the muzzle or it will be a little shorter than the barrel/muzzle? I hope you can image what i'm saying And not in last place...you have a nice f****g set up there! What tube you useing???
My barrel is actually 14.5” (with the muzzle device pinned to avoid needing to SBR it), so this rail will work just fine with your MR223 14.5”! The rail was actually designed around that barrel length and the rail itself is approximately 13” in length.
@@gfa2779 you might have a milspec buffer tube with a commercial spec stock (or vice versa) which could be causing the wobble. Also, you can put strip of duct or electric tape on the buffer tube itself to help fix the wobble which I’ve seen people do before.
It’s pretty neat for being an older unit. Pairs really nicely with this build. Been debating getting another Unity riser and trying it on the Mk18/CQBR.
I haven’t done the math for the parts because I’ve added and upgraded so much stuff over the last 2.5 years, but with current market prices, you’d probably need at least 20k to build it as it’s configured in this video.
Granted, if you’d use your MR556 instead of getting as many real 416 parts as possible like I did, you might be able to save a couple/few grand or so. Current prices for this stuff: - 5k for the SkeetIR - 2k for the PEQ-15 - 2k for the Optic Setup - 1k for the Geissele Gen.1 SMR Rail (approximate cost) - 1k or so for Light/Switch/Small Parts/RAL8000 Stuff, etc. - 750 roughly for Barrel Chop, RAL8000 Tano or Cerakote, Proper Laser Engraving, Pin and Weld or SBR Tax Stamp, etc.
Correct. I certainly don’t see the prices ever coming back down unless HK releases some type of commercially available 416, but I doubt that will ever happen since they’ve expressed they have no interest in it and have already developed proprietary MR556 stuff that is different from 416 spec.
