Why do some of you have to criticize the two of them just because they’re not feeling songs from the past or don’t know too much about them? Remember they weren’t alive in the 80s they weren’t there to experience 80s like the rest of us did. Cut them some slack and even if it’s an opinion you don’t like.
My number one 80s song! The 80s had so many epic gems but this one for me captures all the sounds and the vibe of the 80s. Never fails to take me back to my childhood and what life felt like back then.
Thank you Rob Squad for re-introducing us 80's kids to songs we sometimes forget about. Of course I've heard this song off and on through the decades. But hearing it again putting the band name and video to it is awesome! So glad I was an 80's kid!!!--so much great music, that I forget about some of them.

I saw them live when they suported Level 42 two years ago. And you should listen to Level 42 as you love base and Mark King the base player and singer is regarded as one of the best base players ever. Hot water is an amazing song of theirs you should react to. Johny hates jazz even though it's well over 30 years since they had hits sounded amazing live if not better than back in the day.

Since you mentioned different sounds of the 80s, one type you would really like is what’s known as, “The New Jack Swing” genre. To kick it off I would like to suggest, Johnny Kemp, “Just Got Paid”. So, glad y’all enjoyed Johnny Hates Jazz 😎
Thanks for J & A for the 80’s UK love (that made its way across the pond). Not surprising that you two enjoyed “Shattered Dreams” bc even after its late 80’s release, you still heard it on the radio, in the mall, in the grocery store, at the doctor’s office, etc years later. ✌🏽
Finally Johnny Hates Jazz! Great band. Not a bad track on the entire album. "I Don't Wanna Be A Hero" is another hit. The band Wet Wet Wet would be a good choice. "Love Is All Around" should be a pleasant reaction.
When you mentioned the thick bass guitar I was instantly thinking of Matt Bianco. They had some hits in the 80s. Don‘t Blame It On That Girl -for example- Half A Minute, Get Out Of Your Lazy Bed, Yeh Yeh. They filled the dance floors and they seemed to be having fun making that musik.
And this song came out in 1988, which was a fun year here in America as far as music goes! We had hit after hit after hit after hit that year and all throughout the 80s too but especially in 1988
Great choice guys ! JHJ Done some great hits in the 80s, including “ Turn back the Clock “ Always brings a lump to your throat and also I don’t wanna be a hero, fantastic song

Another Johnny Hates Jazz song is "Turn Back the Clock." Also Level 42 "Something About You," The Church "Under the Milky Way," and maybe The Railway Children "In the Meantime" for some of the mellower 80s new wave. Your channel could last a decade just reacting to great 80s new wave songs.
This song was even popular in Italy in the summer of 1987. I was there visiting family and it was being played quite frequently on MTV over there. It reminds me of that time. Great memories, great song! 👍🏻👏🏻😉
We had such a wide variety of music in the 80s!!! We had the rock, alternative, industrial, progressive, rap, pop, R&B and music that made its own category, like Prince. And because of MTV, people had easy access to all of it. That's why 80s kids know so much different music, even if a certain genre wasn't their favorite. This is part of the 2nd British Invasion, so much great music.
I love listening to these songs again like this, it is almost like listening to them for the first time. I haven't heard this in a long time and I don't even remember that bass line.

Jay and Amber, if you like this song by Johnny Hates Jazz then you'll REALLY like " Turn Back the clock " which is off the same Johnny Hates Jazz cd as ' Shattered Dreams '🎵
great choice - another one to recommend from JHJ is Turn Back the Clock. Beautiful song with nice lyrics and video. Keep it going with the 80's, it's the best decade of music by far.
Decent song, if you lived in this era it got a LOT of radio play which caused a bit of the "Landslide" effect for me if you know what I mean. Agree with other comments, "Something About You" by Level 42 is worth a listen. One of my favorite 80's tracks is "Love Of The Common People" by Paul Young.
The lead singer's dad was actually a jazz musician. He tells a lovely story about how his dad didn't speak to him for a month (probably an exaggeration) after hearing the band name, but was a big supporter of there's afterwards. Apparently his dad randomly heard him writing Shattered Dreams and told him it was going to be a hit. It was their massive breakthrough song.
An absolute belter! 80’s music is an uplifting genre no matter what the topic of song. I grew up during the 80’s , it’ll always be my go to era first before anything else. Ultravox - Vienna or Go west - king of wishful thinking, absolute belters! ❤
ONE 80'S BAND YOU HAVEN'T CHECKED OUT IS HAIRCUT 100-THEY HAD ONE BIG ALBUM IN '82 WITH LOTS OF GREAT SONGS-LOVE PLUS ONE, FANTASTIC DAY, FAVOURITE SHIRTS,(BOY MEETS GIRL), MARINE BOY, LOVE'S GOT ME IN TRIANGLES, NOBODY'S FOOL ETC. VERY FUNKY/LATIN BAND FROM THE UK.
This is one of my favorite earworms of all time. I can listen to it all day or hear it playing at the back of my mind and not get tired of it. It always feels fresh yet familiar, calm yet profound, insightful yet inciteful.
A totally underrated group! I lived in England from 1980-1984 and loved Haicut 100 (along with Madness, UB40, Bananarama, etc). It was actually sad to come back to the states and miss great English music!
Synths came first. Hair bands were mid-to-late 80s. Duran Duran came on the scene in 1981, and they're synth heavy ... as was New Wave in general. The New Wave invasion started in the early 80s. ETA: I turned 13 in 1980, so I spent all my teen years and early 20s in the 80s. I agree that the 80s were unique, colorful and cool!
Van Halen debuted in 1978! I would say that New Wave and 80's metal both came about at around the same time, but New Wave peaked in popularity around 1981-1985, whereas 80's style metal/hard rock was more like 1986-1991.
Almost no-one seems to react to the quintessential 80s track - "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. The Annihilation Mix from the 12" is the version to listen to. Great bass.
As a teen in the 80s, we had no idea how the music we sat listening for on the radio would be still so big 40 years later… we had some amazing music

I've heard this song so often yet had no idea who sang it!
This song and "Toy Soldiers" by Martika were my two favorites at that particular point in 1989.
An absolute belter! 80’s music is an uplifting genre no matter what the topic of song. I grew up during the 80’s , it’ll always be my go to era first before anything else. Ultravox - Vienna or Go west - king of wishful thinking, absolute belters! ❤
Listen to Midge Ure's (Ultravox lead singer) "Dear God" sometime. You may remember it, got some radio play. One of my all time favorites.
From 1985 - The group is Go West and the song is We Close Our Eyes
Such a great song. Thank you for covering it.
Another class 80’s band would be Curiosity Killed the Cat. Songs to check out would be Misfit and Down to earth. Absolute bangers. ❤ from the UK
Absolute bangers! I always thought they were SO underrated!
Amber hit the nail on the head. I’ve never grown tired of this song. ❤
This is one of my favorite earworms of all time. I can listen to it all day or hear it playing at the back of my mind and not get tired of it. It always feels fresh yet familiar, calm yet profound, insightful yet inciteful.
I don't know why so many of the famous RUclips reactors have stayed away from this song for so long. It's one of my favorite songs from the '80s.
Mine too!
Because the Patreon members get more say on what they react to than anyone else. They should change the name from Patreon to Payola.
"turn back the clock" is also one of my gems
I love Johnny Hates Jazz, Shattered Dreams is a banger, Don’t Say It’s Love is another banger.
From 1982 - The group is Haircut 100 and the song is Love Plus One
Alweys preferred "Favourite Shirt (Boy Meets Girl), myself.
A totally underrated group! I lived in England from 1980-1984 and loved Haicut 100 (along with Madness, UB40, Bananarama, etc). It was actually sad to come back to the states and miss great English music!
JHJ had a few hits in the UK - "Turn Back the Clock", "Don't Say it's Love" and this one were the best of them IMO.
Me too! Wasn’t it the best?!!
Van Halen debuted in 1978! I would say that New Wave and 80's metal both came about at around the same time, but New Wave peaked in popularity around 1981-1985, whereas 80's style metal/hard rock was more like 1986-1991.
New Romantics in the U.K. by 1980 new wave that had replaced punk rock was on the wane
Agreed, the 80's in Europe were much more synth and alternative oriented than in the US.
Almost no-one seems to react to the quintessential 80s track - "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. The Annihilation Mix from the 12" is the version to listen to. Great bass.
