Kitchen Faucet Sprayer Diverter Problem

  • Are you having a Kitchen Faucet Sprayer diverter Problem?
    This generally happens on older faucets (five years or older), but I've seen it happen on faucets that were in service less than a year.
    If you're having such a problem with your faucet, I would recommend removing the nozzle and my bet is that the diverter will be right there sitting in the base of the faucet.
    Check out the video, and if you still have questions, drop me a line at info@bobsplumbingvideos.com.
    HAPPY PLUMBING!
    Bob

    I have Delta kitchen faucet w 2 handles and arched delivery 'pipe'; it keeps going through diverters because no one will stop using hot water only; I have not used generic Home Depot diverter brands: the diverter looks very simple parts wise; the water heater is new and set on Medium, not scalding hot; without asking why it eats diverters, is there a way to change the seal to a tougher grade or how can it be improved to last a few years vs 1 yr. at a time ? Yes, I spoke with Delta and they were deer in the headlights and quite lost on what to do:: '''turn down your water heater''; -- ''hire a licensed Plumber'' & on n on. Bob awesome video. I do have a question and can't find much info. My kitchen sprayer worked but the faucet didn't. A friend of mine claimed he knew what he was doing. He "fixed" the sink. Well I didn't think anything of it and of course thanked him as now the faucet was working, that is until later when I figured out that now the sprayer wasn't working🤣.... I figured out through researching myself that it had to be the diverter. But he took it out and I'm assuming that it was tossed out. The faucet has no visible brand, make, or model. How do I identify the type of diverter that I would need for my faucet?

      Older faucets generally have a 1/8" female tapping in the center of the faucet. Sometimes they get plugged because people no longer want the spray. Sometimes people will change the faucet, cut off the spray hose of the older faucet and leave it mounted on the sink. Maybe this will help-ruclips.net/video/1d7kBYIAtsc/видео.html

    Hey Bob, I'm viewing your video years after you produced it but hoping perhaps you'll still see it. So, the symptoms of the problem I'm having started with both the hot and cold water knobs shaking and making a noise when I turned them on. I looked below the sink and noticed water running down the sprayer hose (which we weren't using at the time). I detached the sprayer from the hose and a washer and small screen came out by themselves. The faucet is only two years old. I put them back in and secured the sprayer. It works but I'm still getting water running down from the sprayer even when its not in use. Periodically the on/off knobs will rattle again. Worried about the water leaking. Would sure appreciate you r thoughts. Thx Bob. m

    Our faucet will run and then, occasionally, stop for a second, making a cachunk noise, then run normally again for a few minutes until the flow of water is again interrupted. this happens every ten seconds or so the entire time the faucet is on. But, once the sprayer is engaged, the pauses in flow stops. The nauzel does seem to be leaking from the button, and water will spurt out of it every time the flow of water from the faucet pauses. I was thinking that the sprayer head was to blame, but do you think it's the diverter?

      Generally speaking, I use a slip-joint pliers a.k.a. channel lock pliers to remove the nozzle, but truth be told on a fifteen-year-old faucet it may not come off that easily. You could end up damaging it past the point of no return. But you most certainly can try.

      Can you remove spray head to see if any water is coming out of the hose? You can hold the base of the head and unscrew it counter clockwise to see if you get any water. If yes, the head could be clogged. If no, then I would say it’s the diverter.

      @@BobsPlumbingVideos Thanks Bob. Yes, I took the spray head off and there's a steady stream of water coming out of the hose. I found a new "universal" spray head at Lowes and will go buy it and try it. I'll let ya know what happens.

    Hi Bob. For these diverters to work correctly, does there need to be a certain level of pressure or flow rate? I recently did some water heater repairs and maintenance, including a good flush. I replaced my water heater input and output with an 18" Shark bite product. Ever since I did this work, my kitchen sink sprayer is experiencing the issues you describe here. When I connected my Shark bites to my 3/4" copper lines I did not remove the plastic inserts. Could these be causing a restriction in flow that would affect my diverter?

    • @BobsPlumbingVideos
      @BobsPlumbingVideos  4 года назад

      Sharkitebite states you can leave them in place, speaking for myself I remove them unless it’s for P.E.X. I don’t think they would cause a loss in pressure, have you removed and cleaned out the diverter. Flushed the faucet of any possible particles from the heater flush?

      @@BobsPlumbingVideos my faucet and sprayer have been cleaned out as far as I can tell. I removed the aerators and ran water through. Today, I took the Shark bites off and removed the inserts and there was no improvement. I will take a look at the diverter next but will need to wait a few days to do it. Thanks for your response.

      Thanks, Bob. I changed the diverter with no better improvement in sprayer function. (The sprayer seems to run out of water or impedes flow.) I took the sprayer off of its hose and the water flows freely out of the hose with no flow out of the faucet (new diverter properly working!). Should I conclude that the guts of the sprayer are broken, and therefore the sprayer needs to be replaced? Many thanks.

    I am currently looking for a way to add a sprayer to a faucet that didn't come with one. 2 handle like you have here except its a really fancy high dollar one and we want to keep it, but we want a sprayer.

    • @BobsPlumbingVideos
      @BobsPlumbingVideos  10 лет назад

      Their is currently no way that I'm aware of that you can make this work. Most faucets back in the day you were able to purchase with or without a spray attachment. Most of the higher end faucets today are already equipped with the spray. Unless it's internally designed to function with a spray attachment, I think you'd be better served replacing it.

    • @RockAnAhardSpot
      @RockAnAhardSpot 10 лет назад

      well, I cant let that stop me. LOL I will find a way and then I will be champion of the faucet sprayer add on. I have come to see that the diverter has to be Above the initial mix to operate correctly and also have control over the temp with the regular hot and cold knobs up top.
      SO to be able to add a unit under the sink that a sprayer can connect to and NOT have constant pressure on it and also have temp control the Mix for the regular faucet has to be moved Down under the sink. then the center o the old mixing place has to be tapped, the diverter placed inline on that tap and then all the sprayer tap place just below that. in as compact of a unit as possible. and wall mountable. nightmare project. sounds kind of fun though. may not even work. I have to try it though, LOL
      what woudl be really cool is If could just find a diverter that will fit in the faucet then tap into the bottom of the existing hot cold mix - i will be trying that first.

    Hey sir, Do you have tome to troubleshoot this problem im having?
    My kitchen sink sprayer doesn't work at all, and when i try spraying it, it completely turns off the main faucet and it takes a while for water to start flowing again. Ive tookin all the parts apart and cleaned them and still no fix. When i took the sprayer head off and got down to just the hose portion, i realized when ever i block the hose completely way2r runs fine through the main faucet. But if i le5 go, i get no flow at all.
