  • Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and the rest of the cast of The Orville stopped by EW’s Comic-Con studio to discuss their new Fox show, set 400 years in the future on the U.S.S. Orville starship. The show will also see MacFarlane reuniting with Charlize Theron, who appeared in his 2014 film A Million Ways to Die in the West. “I can’t tell you anything!” MacFarlane said about Theron’s guest-starring role. “I can tell you that she’s in the show, and she’s fantastic.”

      It has already received a tax incentive for season 3. Something Discovery can't claim. Yeoh's spinoff has been postponed, and Stewart's spinoff went from an ongoing series to a limited run, and still has not received funding. Alex Kurtzman has a history of using spinoff announcements to conceal his failing projects.

    I agree with Seth about being tired of dytopian shows, like The Expanse (great show) and Kill Joys and Ascension ...

    • @kawafahra
      @kawafahra 6 лет назад +1

      The Book Series´source material of the Expanse is rather realistic by mindset than dystopian. The Expanse´s exaggerating musical score has much to do with this slightly uncomfortable feeling of endless betrayal around any corner waiting, without them giving us a break of it in between. I really think by now they overuse Horns and deep Bass sounds etc. in that Series, as like, in EVERY.DAMN.SCENE, even the calm ones where actually nothing happens. Starts to annoy me. Its not about action in the first place, so they should stop pretending it.

    • @valeriacaissa4552
      @valeriacaissa4552 6 лет назад +3

      I don't find The Expanse to be dystopian per se, it is darker but I still find it very hopefull and it feels really fresh in it's more authentic approach. It is harsh of course but its fascinating how sexuality is handled like, there aren't really issues anymore about who does who or how Earth pretty much resolved the whole issues between poor and rich (not meaning that there aren't other issues at hand). The Expanse future is pretty realistic, which means it's sort of between utopian and dsystopian.
      The issue is just, that the new Star Trek show itself doesn't look more like The Orville, not that it has to be comedic and truly utopian but it's looking like the Expanse visually, it's just so dark, even in the scenes where lighting should make the room bright it's still dark and everything so far is about war and danger and not about wonder and adventure and of course exploration.
      I like that shows today are different from the past, that they are often more serious but with SciFi I agree that there is now a lack of less.. "fun" shows and there is also a bunch that are of course 100% dystopian with barely any hope in them. So The Orville is very welcome and I really hope it will be not just Family Guy in space (while I love Family Guy), not just american style fart jokes but a very nice and humorous mix and at the moment it seems to be like that.

    • @rjonboy7608
      @rjonboy7608 6 лет назад +2

      Valeria Caissa I agree with you that today's Sci fi (not syfy or whatever) should be "grittier" and more realistic, but don't feel the pessimism about the future is necessary. It does no good (imho) to plan for Armageddon (lest we get what we planned for). I would like to see a future based on Bob Marley's "Until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes...everywhere is war". One thing attracts me to Orville, the talk of realistic relations of people of radically different, well everything. Show us that being from different ancestries is easy compared to having different definitions for air. And do it with humor.
      "Family Guy in space"? No. I think he pretty much done with that. Fart jokes in space? Maybe, but also much more.

    Just have to say Orville is an amazing show. It's mixes Drama and Comedy in a perfect ratio. The Star Trek we always wanted.

    Now looking back from 2022, all these characters on the panel are stars in their own rights. No one has been left behind.

    The Orville is a great show and I have a feeling it won’t get the runtime it truly deserves. Although I am sad about certain characters leaving .
