Sometimes you don't need to reach the #1 spot in the charts to become more iconic than most of those #1 hits. Here are some examples: We Don't Need Another Hero (Tina Turner), Material Girl (Madonna), Express Yourself (Madonna), Purple Rain (Prince), Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper), Gloria (Laura Branigan), The Wild Boys (Duran Duran), Open Arms (Journey), Don't Dream It's Over (Crowded House) etc
The feeling has gone, only you and I, it means nothing to me This means nothing to me Oh, Vienna Oh, shaddup ya face! That one pretty much proves your point. Oddly this was exactly the moment that teenage me stopped caring about the charts.

Foreigner should have had a #1 hit with Waiting For A Girl Like You, but it got held out of the top spot by an 80s juggernaut of a song: Olivia Newton John's Physical which was at#1 for 10 weeks.
@@maxaroni15 I was following the charts (via Casey Kasem's American Top 40) religiously at that time (I was about 16 when it charted). I remember being frustrated, week after week, waiting for Foreigner to overtake ON-J's dreadful song (I normally liked at least SOME of her hits, but I couldn't stand that one)! Then, that last week, I think she fell to #4, and I thought, "FINALLY! It's long overdue!" And then Casey got to #2, and it was STILL Foreigner!!! And then I saw that H&O had moved ahead of them! BTW, the following week, both songs dropped. At least Foreigner finally got a #1 with the next album (Agent Provocateur's "I Want to Know What Love is"), but I've always felt Waiting for a Girl Like You was their best ballad.
The #2 hits of the 90's don't speak to me (besides some few, very few exceptions); but for the #2 hits of the 80's, it's very different. There are a lot of songs I can relate with. Songs from John Lennon, George Harrison, Prince, John Mellencamp, Journey, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, Glass Tiger, Billy Ocean, Duran Duran, Crowded House, The Go-Go's, The Bangles, Belinda Carlisle, INXS, Survivor, Def Leppard, The Cure, Tears For Fears are still strong in my personal 80's playlist and just show how diverse was mainstream music in the 80's.
Well, if these songs didn't top the US chart, that just demonstrates the unparalleled power of 80's music. So nice to remember 6:29 and 7:33, such a classic American sound of the late 80's. And there's still something new to discover - 8:09 not only covers the 60's hit but also rips 5:42 and 7:58 videos off :):):)
Besides her many US #1s, Madonna had four US #2 hits in the 80s: Material Girl, Causing a Commotion, Express Yourself and Cherish, followed by Prince with three: Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret and U Got The Look. The 80s were so good musically speaking that reaching the Top 5 (and in several cases even the Top 10) was enough of an honor for a hit song to become a timeless classic.
Many a great song died in the #2 spot in 1984… The #1 spot changed the fewest times that year… That shows not only how damn good the #1’s were but also the quality of #2’s were amazing! Lucky to have grown up in the 80’s… Thankfully we have our own time machine -RUclips!

"I get weak" by Belinda Carlisle is one of the sexiest songs ever. As a solid 3 out of 10, I always imagine what it must be like for handsome guys to have that effect on a girl.

Yo, Some random dude... How about a video of songs that were in both the #1 and #2 slots (either order) consecutively? Or songs that were in the top 10 for more than 4 weeks at a time (regardless of position)?
To this day, I'm still shocked that Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is the band's signature song while a lesser-known single from the iconic "Hysteria" album, "Love Bites," went #1 here in the US. Also, "Friends and Lovers" from Gloria Loring and the late Carl Anderson was supposed to hit the airwaves in '85, but it didn't hit the airwaves until the 2nd quarter of '86 due to legal issues.
