Just bought a 107 for my daughter. Prefer it to my car, it’s like being 17 again - and there’s a certain charm in that…

I've left a similar comment on a previous 107 video but I leave it again.
I passed my driving test in 1982 & my bike licence a few years later. I've owned lots of vehicles from ratty old vans to powerful sports bikes to family cars to low-slung sports car. Last year I bought a Peugeot 107 simply because I was sick of haemorrhaging money on my gas guzzler. I was expecting frugal yet miserable motoring but I got the shock of my life because I absolutely adore the little thing. It reminds me of cars I was driving in the 1980s. It actually feels like I'm driving a classic without the fragility of a classic car. The engine note is intoxicating (it actually reminds me of a v twin Kawasaki ER6n I had) , the exhaust sounds throaty, the driving position is superb and it's just fun, fun fun! It feels like I'm piloting a dodgem. You'll be left for dead at the lights by people in their 3 litre turbo diesels and their hot hatches but it doesn't matter because you're having fun in your own space at your own pace. It actually relieves you of the stress of competing, because you can't. I still browse Autotrader and I dabble with ideas of getting something bigger and faster but then I sit in my 107, start driving and I'm immediately reminded why I don't want anything else. And then we have running costs of course. My recent service was half the price of a friend's monthly lease payment, a full set of quality tyres cost me £280, consumables like a wiper blade, oil filter, air filter etc are between 5 & 10 quid, there's no road tax, I get between 55 and 60 mpg and my insurance is cheap. ok I'm 59-years-old so I'm in a low bracket but it's still great value. lastly I thought I'd be bullied by other drivers because I'm in a small car but the opposite is true. Other drivers aren't threatened or intimidated by me so they tend to leave me be. Summary: Iconic cars and surely a future classic (unless the government gets its way and rid the country of all ICE cars.)

It’s funny how some cars just do that to you. We have a 2006 Hyundai Terracan that we bought new that has done over 250,000 kms. It’s almost as good now as when we bought her. We absolutely love the old girl, I find myself talking to her when I get in. Don’t judge lol.

Absolutely agree with these comments. My son has one and while he was at uni I used it for work, I found it quite liberating compared to driving a newer car, and very joyful indeed. Also reminded me of small cars from the 80s which I had when I was younger. The C1 is probably still significantly safer and cheaper to run than those cars were.

Totally agree with everything you said, own a 2013 C1. Zno tax, cheap insurance, 60 mpg, so dun to drive, I've had quite a few cars over the years. ,, £4k I paid for the C1 & what a bloody bargain, that 1.0 engine will still be going when I'm pushing up daisies 😂😂😂🎉

I've just received a free Peugeot 107 2013 Allure from my father in law. Done 60,000 miles, been serviced every year and it runs like a dream. Amazing little cars and so popular. Economical, reliable, and fun to drive. I love it, and will run it into the ground. Headlights need buffing a little and needs a full service but other than that doesnt need any money spent on it.

My first car! Had a 2009 C1. Fantastic little motors, but don't buy one that's spent any of its life by the sea as they're exceptionally rust-prone. Otherwise relatively bulletproof and wonderfully straightforward to learn basic maintenance on. I sold it for more than I bought it (£1190 > £1399) and upgraded to a 2015 Nissan Note last December.

I really enjoy your enthusiasm, Matt, for cars some might find dull . I used to drive a 4x4 4.7l petrol V8 Toyota Tundra and now I drive a 2013 Honda Jazz Si - it’s a perfectly good car for my needs. Can’t go anywhere like my Tundra, and is probably even slower than that tank, but it’s just so reliable and cheap to run. I’ve been thinking of moving into a newer Audi TTS next but I just love the little Jazz’s can do attitude. When I bought it, it provided freedom at a time when I needed to feel freedom the most. Sometimes we just love a car for other reasons than how fast it can go or what fancy gadgets it has.

Thing that do go wrong. Water in the boot. High level brake light seal perishes and lets the rain in. Easy cheap fix. Higher mileage , the timing chain starts rattling, and fuel guage can become tempremental, and show fuel that you haven't actually got. All run of the mill stuff though. Cracking cars, but watch out for rust at the back of the sills near the rear wheel arches.

Great video as always Matt. I bought one of these almost four years ago for my son as his first car. 2010 plate with 70k miles from a local dealer who only sells C1s, 107s and Aygos. We paid £2k for it I think. It's 3 door and has Aircon, it's black. It's been generally very good indeed. Apart from needing tyres and servicing (which i do myself) it had the leaky boot / rear lights. Very easily rectified for peanuts. My daughter now shares the car with my son. I am pretty sure it won't have lost too much value given the way prices are. They are also very good fun to drive in my opinion and as others say, have real character. Keep up the good work.

These are indeed great little cars. Several years ago, a friend got one from the "bargain basement corner" of a local dealer. Not only did he like it, I liked his one so much that I bought a C1 to go along with it as a second fun car. Not only that, it became my daily driver for work commuting.
The cars capture a lot of the fun and basic motoring enjoyment that came with the original Mini, but they have the reliability, and some of the sophistication of more modern motoring. As a cheap, economical, well-established, popular little car, there are lots of after-market fun things that people make especially for them and the simplicity of the cars means that working on them is pretty easy. It's real no-frills stuff, but that's actually part of the pleasure.
After several years of fun motoring, both of us parted company with our respective cars but I know from Govt. tax and MOT records, both cars are still passing MOTs and are on the road.

Bought it for 999€ (prices here in germany are higher than in UK in general) and drove it for ~2 years before the motor died (at 125.000 km).
Didnt bother to get it fixed - it served me well for what it cost me.
I noticed the exact same issues that you mention (almost frightning):
    - cracked hazard light switch (5€ and easy to change)
    - exhaust rusted (almost through) (50€ and just 4 screws)
    - rear drum break pads needed changing (12€ if you can do it yourself)
    - various parts had the read paint faded/clearcoat peeling (didnt bother to fix it)
Unfortunately the next Aygo model (2014-2022) is still more expensive than other cars in that segment, so i bought a Kia picanto instead.

I had a 2008 Aygo, great car, but the hazard light button was, indeed, cracked. The hazard lights worked, so I suppose they pent the money in the important place.....

Laufenn is a Hankook sub-brand. So you do have four identical tyres on, haha 🙂Laufenns are quite popular in continental Europe.

Check for water under the spare wheel in the boot. It comes in through the rear lights. There’s a plastic plug you can remove to drain it out. Easy to fix on RUclips

I have a C1 to drive to work, I've got other nicer cars, but my wife and I use the C1 all the time. Never worry about where we park it, geat in a car park and runs on air. Also, it's actually quite fun to drive, slow, but you can chuck it into corners. It sort of reminds me of a mini classic.

Occasionally I sell a car, usually from not using it or being bored with it, and I always try and make sure I don't give a prospective buyer any issues he might want to negotiate the price over. That tie wrap on the RF wheel hub cap would make me look deeper for "negotiation points" since it would indicate the previous owner was a cheapskate. Hope you caught that. On the flip side I've always told my son that the worst thing you can do is be interested in a perfect car because there's nothing to negotiate the asking price with. ;-) Love the good news videos.

I'd love this - much as I love my E39 BMW, it's expensive to run, insure, and with 225,000 miles on the clock I'm worried it's going to cost me a lot at some point. I had a Citroën AX GT prior to the BM, loved that too!

Too true! In the current times, we don't need cars with a six figure price and stinging road tax, service and depreciation. I rescued a 11 reg 107 that had stood 3&1/2 years under a tree. Good clean up, check over, passed mot, use it to keep the miles off my CRV, I love it! Oh, and google "ebay large 107 rear wiper" and you can get a 16" rear wiper that wipes all the screen,(replacing the tiddly 12"), Yay! 😅🤣

Laufeen is a good top end budget/bottom end mid range tyre. I'd worry about the Hankook on the rear as that is either one of the original tyres or a part worn!

Said it before and will say it again, there is just something honest about a base car that doesn’t try to win you with the latest technology, it’s actually possible to drive feel every move and hear every sound.

Love these, reminds me of the basic 'does the job' of the MK1 Fiesta. I had about 6mths working fin 2005 for Toyota (I f*cked it up - got lazy) favourite was the Yaris of the time but a poverty spec Aygo was a 2nd place winner. :-)

3 grand sound completely fair to me , as he said, these cars are perfect for new drivers because the low cost of running them. This one had a nice makeover. It's much better than a 1 grand bigger car for your 18 year old son or daughter as their first car
