The head lining was falling off so we screwed it, the boot wouldn't stand on its own anymore, the bonnet was rusty and we sprayed bottle it. We did a holiday run to Devon fully loaded for 2 week holiday golf clubs and everything else we needed for the holiday. Although it has the boot the size of a small cardboard box we still managed to fit everything in. Even though it is no sports car driving it on the country roads was fun and parking in city side streets is a dream due to its size. Not a bad first car for a new driver.

Every time Matt has a 15-30 year old, super low mileage car
I can expect it to be condemned. To me, it means the thing has just been sitting around, not being driven and vehicles seem to not enjoy not being driven. And it usually means it’s not had enough oil/filter/plug changes because a layman looks at mileage not age.
Sadly it seems this little Kia conforms to that assumption. Sad really; I like the colour and I’ve never hated the Picanto’s looks and this kind of cheap car for new or downsizing drivers are dying out.

    • @shabba890

Mat, that's the perfect car to fix the most serious issues then drive it to Spain in the summer and see if you can make a profit there, or maybe get your return air fare out of it!

Howdy Matt!! I always have to laugh when you say that you're sad because you know obscure facts about cars. Actually, you should be proud. Being a fair bit older than you, I was like that in my youth. I use to hang out on all the local car dealers collecting all the info on the new cars. Be proud of your wisdom & knowledge. Big bear hugs from Kenny in Ohio USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤪🤪

Hello, Matt. Remember me in your will. 😂 Is it me or do 20 year old cars not look like 20 year old cars, I just think old shapes don’t look old like in comparison an 80s car did compared to a 90s car. Great video.

That should definitely have been your new daily driver Jedward (I mean Matt). On a more serious note though, could you not drive it to and sell in Spain? Or buy it for your brother as his Rust 2 Rome car so he can join in the fun?

I watch various youtube channels with people who collect and fix up very ordinary cars, something like this would be a easy fix for them compared to some cars they work on. Parts are pretty inexpensive as well.

There are plenty of 20+ year old cars that are cheaper and easier to work on than anything produced in the past 5 years.

Thats the problem with low mileage cars, rust from too much sitting. Cars are designed to be used, use prevents corrosion. This would be less of a liability if it had 180k miles. The brake parts are easy to replace but welding sills writes it off to the car graveyard.

It’s a bit grubby but I reckon it has potential. A machine polish and a good clean on the inside, some new wheel trims would transform it I reckon.

Random thought about what you can tell about the age of previous owners from the radio pre set. Some of the early punk rockers are now in their mid 60s - some even older. John Lydon is 68!

Matt, I assume that the scrap value plus video content value made this purchase worthwhile, or else you’d have done the carvertical check prior to purchase and the mot list would have made you decline?
How about turning it into an off road demolition racer and starting up another channel. All the bad stuff you buy through the year gets stripped down to engine, gearbox, drivers seat and steering wheel and you have a high peak demolition Derby at the end of the year, or in May, May’s the best month.
    Nice one Matt.

I love that colour names stick in your mind! 😂 I thought it was just me.
It started with Colorado beige for me (76 Chevette!) my newer car colour database isn't as impressive as yours, I'm 56 - but 70's & 80's cars, there's a fair bit of pointless paint name knowledge in my mind!

Matt , pulls up " bit ropey but may be worth it if I spend a bit on it , I'll take it for wash even though the current MOT suggests it's a nail"
