- All the Yankees playoff chokes the last 11 years. This video was very difficult to make as a diehard Yankees fan, but it was highly suggested by many people.

As much as I loved 2009-2012 Yankees, we're talking about a team that had the best record in the American League every year, except for in 2010 because they chose to lose at the end of the season because they wanted the Twins. A World Series in 09 is nice but those next 3 years, you would think they would have at least won the pennant in one of those 3 years.
I think 2011 is the one they should most regret and that series with Detroit was so close. I think the Game 1 rainout was huge. I'll also never forget in 2010, when Joe Girardi changed the rotation and moved Phil Hughes ahead of Andy Pettitte to start Game 2 on the road in the ALCS, when you know Cliff Lee The Boogeyman is facing you in Game 3. All because Phil Hughes pitched well in like 3 career games at Texas when only just that season they had a huge breakout as a team. They literally just did it the round before to success- CC and Pettitte pitch the first two on the round and then the kid takes the mound at home. I love Joe Girardi but I always thought that was a terrible move. I do not take away from Texas but I will never forget that.
2013 could have been a decent last hurrah but so many injuries to the lineup. Sabathia and Pettitte declined significantly too.
2017-2019 were mostly fun but post-2021, I'm pretty fed up right now
I’ve never heard anyone but me mention the whole Pettitte Phil Hughes blunder in 2010. Congrats man you’re literally the first person I’ve ever heard make that point other than myself. It definitely cost them the pennant in 2010

Yankees were real good back in that time 2007-2013 but truth is, dodgers probably had a better team from 2015-2023. It’s hard to win. So much luck factor (bounces, injuries, bad calls) that all you can do is keep knocking on the door. Parody really started to make it harder (even though you spend more). Felt the Yankees should’ve had one more, but theme the breaks. Same era; tigers should’ve had more with Verlander, scherzer and Miguel Cabrera. Sometimes not in the cards
I honestly wouldn’t even put an asterisk on 2017. The Yankees scored THREE runs across FOUR away games in Houston. You can’t just say “ehhh you never know they might have gotten shut out in one of those.” That’s just way too pitiful to blame it on the Astros
The cheating certainly didn't help but yes the Yankees were just awful away that series they're losing that one no matter what
You can't bang on a trash can at MMP during a playoff game, it's too loud. I believe MLB found no evidence they cheated during the 2017 postseason. Also, the Yankees stole signs using the bullpen phone at home games during 2015-2016, so you can bet during the playoffs both teams were being closely monitored. Anyways, as mentioned the Yankee bats were shut down anyways so it didn't matter.
@@PantsofVance well also statistically their wrc+ and strikeout rate was the same across home and away games, so there’s that. I just think even if it was the best form of cheating ever, the Yankees sure didn’t help their case

This has got to be the stupidest Yankee championship drought in history. At least during the Mattingly era, there was no wild card and the teams weren't that talented. But in recent years, the postseason failures have been abundant and embarrassing.
Not embarassing at all. The Yankees perform EXACTLY the way they are built. Home run or strikeout offense wins a shitload of games against .500 teams and almost guarantees a playoff berth, but this type of offense is generally overmatched by playoff teams that have two aces on the staff. Two aces pitch four times in a seven game series. A short playoff run is expected.
@@ohger1 The long and the short of it is that they'd prefer to keep their attendance revenue solid rather than rebuild for real and produce a true juggernaut. Which means that each year the team's profound flaws are masked by a phony playoff run. As fucked up as it is, it could set a textbook example for teams in the future in terms of deciding what really matters.
@@brettsinger9565 They don't need a shutdown/rebuild necessarily as they have the money to circumvent that - they need to rethink their metrics. They develop their farm system the same way.

"Choke" presupposes the team in question loses a series they shouldn't have. These aren't chokes folks. The fact is is that the Yankees metrics in the last 15 years favor home runs every 20 at-bats over hitting for average and advancing the runners (small ball). The home run/strikeout/launch angle metric the Yankees favor will win a lot of games against .500 teams, but unfortunately, strike out offense suffers against teams that have two aces on the staff (playoff teams). Two aces pitch twice in a 7 game series. In other words, they Yankees short play off runs are expected given the way they build their teams.
Half of these are the Yankees choking to the Astros. It's fucking GOLDEN

Every year since 18 the yankees lose in the playoffs because of pitching. Hopefully we can add arms that are cheap like morton,kluber, and add bullpen arms like colome and hand.

Steven Stocker Oh so we should just give up? Yes all we needed was an ace. But that was before we lost Severino, Paxton and Kahnle. We basically lost Ottavino too because he was not effective anymore especially in high leverage situations. Our bench also turned to dust in the 2020 season. But, by all means keep hating. Law of averages eventually worked out for the Nationals and Dodgers. Despite them being laughing stocks of the postseason the past decade as well. Don’t think that karma is exclusive to two teams.

2011 - after winning the AL East against the Rays, the Yankees let a 7-0 lead slip away to allow Tampa Bay to win the AL Wild Card on Game 162.
This was a regular season game and the yankees had already clinched the top playoff spot lol. this game had no effect on the yankees at all
It was pretty obvious that they let Tampa win in order for the Red Sox to get eliminated.

They already clinched the division and it was logical to just let Tampa win so that the Red Sox would get knocked out of the playoffs since they were the tougher team for the Yankees to beat. The Yankees would have gladly played Tampa in the playoffs instead of Boston. Also because of the fact that they let go of a 7 run lead kind of gives weight to my theory that they intentionally threw the game. So just stop to think about it for a little longer and use YOUR brain maybe. Try to think about a little thing called tactics and planning for the future. Seems like you just think about things for literally like 2 seconds and then immediately write what’s in your head without any second thought or reasoning like most people in this stupid country and then if you are proven wrong you can’t ever admit you were wrong. You probably play checkers instead of chess I’m assuming.😊 So the conclusion seems to be that they were allowing Tampa to clinch a wildcard spot like my man up on the top comment stated, on purpose.

That’s what happens when you build a team that lives and dies by the home run, doesn’t play small ball by advancing runners. They don’t hit for contact and strike out a ton. Have not had a fast base runner since Gardner. Built to win during the regular season.
BronxBmbrz, you may want to reconsider updating this to add the 2021 ALWC choke against Boston, and of course the 2022 ALCS choke/sweep against Houston.
As a Red Sox fan, I find "choke" offensive. The fact is that Boston had a better team in '21.

@@RangersFanatic275 Even the '04 was not a choke. The Yankees had a lead late in three out of the four loses and handed a lead to Rivera. The Red Sox in 04 was a great legendary team who beat what was equally a good team in the 04 Yankees. I think the whole premise of "choke" is ridiculous. The Yankees lost to the Pirates in '61 4-3, but outscored them by something like 25 runs. Sometimes you just don't win. This video should be Yankee losses in the post season, not chokes.
