I come back to this song from time to time to enjoy the video and whatever new connotations and impressions that might appear because of it. I use it as a backdrop to enhance and sharpen any emotions and it always calms me down or gives me new anxieties, whichever preferable at the time
I’m 13 and I’ve grown up listening to Andrew bird and I normally just listen to Sisyphus but in the car today my dad played his other songs and I was like “oh yeaa I remember this one I used to love it so much!” And so now I’ve been listening to it on loop for the past two hours lmao
I will be very honest with you: violin can be a very dangerous instrument in wrong hands...In Andrews hands this instrument is in the right place...the pizzicato what he is playing is amazing

When you listen to a Andrew Bird song be prepared to learn something new....📚 Marie Curie, a Polish 🇵🇱 immigrant to France 🗼, is credited for inventing the portable X-ray ☢ during WWI. She was also awarded two Nobel Prizes 🥉 and was the first woman professor at the University of Paris 👩🎓. Sadly she died a horribly painful death at the age of 66 due to prolonged radiation exposure 😥. Marie Curie's contribution to modern medicine 🏥 is a tribute to her brilliance.
You should read about her. She was an original molecule re-arranger. That, and she made using X-rays for medical purposes easier and mobile so they could be used to help ww1 soldiers.

@@infirite72 I don't think Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle applies here. That's just about the limitations of accurate measurement. Now, the Many-Worlds Interpretation does say that the observer gets changed when they observe, but that just seems too esoteric to be what Andrew Bird intended.
I decided it’d be fun one day to go to a random university and smoke weed and walk around the campus and listen to music and I’ll never forget when this song came on from a random shuffle and when then beat dropped i had a huge main character moment

Seen a couple folks wonder what the song is about. So here is my interpretation, not that it is worth anything... The song is about the end , or the desire, to be single. It is transformative of the male paleo self (cave man ooga booga me like girl) to something greater (potential love) and it's very beginning. But the object of lust turns to affection if that person returns "the stare". When that happens, it changes the narrator and his subject to their deepest levels (their molecules). When that happens, the wandering, nomadic, or in this case Roma (formerly known as gypsy), begins to "fade" away and considers a life of permanence with a life partner. The open whistling represents much of Bird's music, his status quo of Hungarian and Roma influenced music in a distant, hazy sepia tinged existence, until it pops into clarity when we can suspect he sees her. The end of the song represents the "falling" in love and the terror with wailing and fuzzy distortion as the narrator grapples with what he might become: emotionally fixed on her single point of light as a moth watching a flame approach it. This song is the second track of this concept album about marriage and family. It immediately follows "Capsized" which is a prologue to single life itself and the the songs after Roma Fade, being the result after it.
He loves his cultural references, and I love the creativity his songwriting inspires. He's talked about it though In his Great Room with Chris Thile, recalling it as the first times seeing his wife.
Interesting interpretation. I just thought it was about social structure. If you see me, how do I see myself while you're seeing me, and since I see you seeing me, you are part of my development, and if we see each other, we change everything in nuance.
Andrew talked about this song in an interview once; to him, it was about meeting his wife for the first time and describing the feeling of watching her from across the hall but being too nervous to introduce himself. It's a "love at first sight" song thematically arranged around a science experiment
alternative: story told by a lover who was left by his love. a story of ultimate and fatal loss. he realizes that he was never really seen by her. but still he loves her, and wishes he could by staring at her, change her molecules, like she had changed his molecules forever....

@@chironOwlglass What how so
The feels
[Verse 1]
See her light, how it reigns
So hard on your high plains
So you take such pains
That she won't notice you
And your x-rays
Of your Paleo male
All gaze
How they rest, and play
Slowly corrupting you
I wonder what the chance is you wanted to
A thousand vacant stares won't make it true
Make it true
[Pre-Chorus]
You need a witness just to know you're there
From the tips of your fingers, every strand of hair
You know someone's watching you watching me watching you
And all that we look upon
You may not know me but you feel my stare
[Chorus]
And if she sees you, it changes you
Rearranges your molecules
And if you see her, it changes her
She's a danger now, after school
And if she sees you, it changes you
Rearranges your molecules
And if you see her, it changes her
She'll be seeing you after school
Here's where gentlemen avert their eyes
Maybe she's a gentleman in disguise
In disguise

From the tips of your fingers, every strand of hair
You know someone's watching you
Watching me watching you and all that we look upon
