Sylvester McCoy has been playing the Seventh Doctor at Big Finish since 1999, featuring on the first licensed Doctor Who audio adventure, The Sirens of Time, with Peter Davison and Colin Baker.
On television (1987-1989), his Doctor was both a spoon-playing clown and a master of deep dark secrets. He toppled empires in a single night, entertained in the circus of the Gods of Ragnarok and played chess with the ancient and evil Fenric.
Despite telling Ace that they still had “work to do” as they strode away from her home town of Perivale, it was in this incarnation that the television series was rested. The Seventh Doctor went on to have many adventures in books, comic strips and on audio. He returned on the eve of the millennium to transport the remains of the Master back to Gallifrey. Emerging from the TARDIS, he was shot by a street gang and died on the operating table.
Sophie Aldred has played Dorothy "Ace" McShane at Big Finish since early 2000. The Doctor found Ace serving milkshakes on Iceworld in the TV story Dragonfire (1987), at the end of which she joined the Doctor on his travels. Развлечения
Catherine Tate: me and ten have the best chemistry.
Sophie Aldrid: hold my rice pudding...
EHHHHH... it's definitely a tie !
Aren't we forgetting two and jamie??
Gordon W. Ah crap yeh there probably neck and neck with 7 and ace.
7 and Ace, 2 and Jamie > Donna and 10
4 and Sarah Jane.
After meeting Mr McCoy, I can confirm that he is one of the nicest men I’ve ever met. He played the spoons on my head
I met Sophie, I was so close to meeting Sylvester but didn't get to, although we saw each other. I can also confirm that Sophie was one of if not the nicest person I've ever met.
"I quite like being blown up." This is why he made such a good doctor, he's enjoys doing mad, crazy and dangous things with an attitude of fun and enjoyment.
I'm glad McCoy just gets more and more appreciated as the years go by as the Doctor. Certainly in my top 3
I realize it's kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good site to stream new tv shows online ?
@Xander Keagan Try FlixZone. You can find it on google :)
@Nasir Willie yea, been using Flixzone for since april myself :)
@Nasir Willie Thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :) I really appreciate it!
He is literally in my top 3. He's number 2 after Jon Pertwee and before Patrick Troughton. Number 4 would be Peter Davison if he looked the way he did in at home with the braithwaites when he was middle-aged and got his big sickhot bare @rse out and everything. Otherwise it's William Hartnell or Peter Capaldi. Or...both.
“I didn’t know you asked for 4 bacon sandwiches”
I don’t think I’ve related to Sophie so much
They should start a podcast, their chemistry is so good. The way Sophie instantly went with the gag after she praised him!
Sylvester has his crocs set to attack mode
Sophie may have aged, but she still has that sharp wit of a young Ace. To my ear it also sounds like her voice hasn’t changed.
Omg yeah, her voice doesn’t sound different!!!
Seven and Ace are my second-favourite TARDIS team on-screen, but Sylvester and Sophie are my favourite team off-screen.
It's weird the sophies voice has barely change. Ace is actually my favourite companion.
She needs more Nitro-9.
My man rocking the black crocs, absolute legend
"in the 4th season, if they would have done it......"
Sophie and The Great Sylveste are so good together
we don't see enough of Sylvester McCoy, he's a brilliant actor
nice to see both Sylvester & Sophie looking well & having a laugh together
😊 (smiley face emoji)
Yeah both his and his predecessor (Colin Baker) were brought to abrupt end
“4 bacon sandwiches? Jeremy that’s insane.”
Haha. I understood that reference!
The tragic thing is his plans for a fourth season, especially when it seems most Doctors will only ever do three
Especially sad because by his era the BBC had reduced a season to only 4 stories
You could argue that Series 12 caught on to that potentiality in the form of the Timeless Child revelation
@@TheTomLees yes but unlike the cartmel masterplan, chibbers actually spelled it out. Cartmel was only ever going to drop hints
@@TheTomLees Yhh they kinda did.
I can do a pretty good impression of Ace from Doctor Who.
*Bombs.*
Sylvester and Sophie doubt you will ever see this but you definitely one of the best double act of Doctor and Companion ever Sylvester you one of my favourite Incarnations glad big Finish can explore the relationship between the Doctor and Ace more just a quick question again doubt you will see this but Sophie if you could have Ace meet on the Tv or in big Finish any of the modern Doctors who? hope you are both having a great day
Well she had ace meet 13 in her new book it's really rather good too.
MY Doctor & MY companion. Loved them both since 87.
Sylvester is my fav doctor I cried when he got shot in the movie
My favorite Ace quote..."This is all like some sort of game to you. The only problem is you're the only one who knows all the rules. Who are you!!!!!!!" And then Sylvester gives his wink
And my favorite McCoy moment was when he had that philosophical debate with a door guard and lost. I would have liked more moments like that vs action scenes. If you're going to have a low budget you might as well make the dialogue really good.
Their relationship warms my heart to the core, what a lovely thing to see (and Sophie really is that lovely with everyone. I waited for two hours to get her new book signed and even after the hundreds before me she took the time to ask me questions and have a proper chat)
Yes she's a very warm person .
So glad to see they're both happy and healthy
Sophie Aldred sounds just like she did in the 80s !
Sylvester McCoy is a good guy. My dad and I were at a meet and greet with him at the local PBS and it was over and as we were leaving we accidentally bumped into him and he was just as gracious and kind even though it was my dad and I. Very sweet man. Xoxo ♥ ♥
Two lovely, and rather talented people.
If you ever get the chance to meet 'em, you'll treasure the moment always. ☺
@@Nige031077 My brother did, and I remain quite jealous.
To be fair, Doctor Who might have one the friendliest cast in history.
There's something very wholesome about those two. I'm happy they're still collaborating together.
I love them. Simply adore them like distant relatives I don't see enough.
They make me so happy it's unreal.
Loved seeing them together. Sophie as Ace is my favorite companion. She and Sylvester had some of the best chemistry!
Sophie is such a naturally beautiful woman. I love the earthiness that she brought to Ace. 💖
THANK YOU,Sylvester for reading out my question to Sophie.Even though you did get my name wrong, but I'll forgive you for that.People do get it wrong a lot...😅👍👏
They need to bring theese two back to the 60th aniversary episode.
I’d love to spend an afternoon with these two.
Four incarnations of The Master did not enjoy this video, apparently.
What a joy to watch these two being laid back and silly.
A perfect Tardis team, so many wonderful Big Finish audios, "A Death in the Family" is a must listen..
@Joe Horrell Enjoy listening to them, all superb audios, The Death Collectors is another personal favourite if you haven't heard that one.
@@crmarr I've Death Collecters is quite bad, why do you say it's good?
@@Jack-Oates Very atmospheric sound track, what I felt was a very original story, the doctor with no companions as really shows how good the 7th Doctor (Sylvester) is, Katherine Parkinson does though play her character wonderfully and could easily have become a companion.
@@crmarr sounds good, I'll have to try it next time it's on sale.
@@crmarr It also has several joking nods to the movie (elevator music and operating tables, as I recall; it's been a long time since I heard it)...
This is one of the most delightful videos I have seen in a very long time.
Don’t worry Sylvester! I’ve still got more spoons for you! 🥄😁
I miss when doctor who actors were true eccentrics. All the amazing actors that the show introduced me to. My favourite duo.
Well, for what it's worth, my understanding is that Capaldi despite his age really is like the hipster rockstar of Series 9 and that Whittaker has the same energetic childlike eccentricity as her own Doctor...
I think they still are. You've gotta be at least a little odd to play the Doctor I think.
Love these two. They had such a great chemistry on screen. Met Sylvester at a signing in London back in the 90's and a few years ago I sat next to Sophie on the train to Cardiff 😊
RUclips recommended and got it right, Seven and Ace were my favourites as a kid, and Sylvester is on a par with Tom Baker for different reasons. Sophie will always be my favourite companion, very daring and energetic, and still seems like that today.
Still the Dynamic Duo of Doctor Who after all these years...
Easily the best TARDIS team! Loved this interview!!
_Thank You_ McCoy and Aldred for making my weekends in early '90s New Zealand rock, and _Thank You_ Big Finish for producing unceasingly fantastic adventures that improve on the TV show (if that's ever needed!) yet fit into it seamlessly!
“We’re more than good, we’re Ace!”
It's always a joy seeing Classic Who get the love and affection it deserves, especially from those who were involved.
I love this guy! So personable and full of energy. Great Doctor!
Honestly Tom sylvester sophie and peter capaldi do so much for the fandom! I absolutely love it!
I haven't seen Sophie since the 80's she looks amazing!
Big finish, please keep making these. I laughed at this as much as I did in every Iris Wildthyme!!!
Wow! They share a birthday? I thought I knew everything about my favourite Tardis team. While disappointed that my question wasn't picked (guess because I was addressing them both while it looks like they responded to questions addressed to each separately) , it's still wonderful to watch these two in anything.
Love from Egypt 🇪🇬
I had no idea Cartmel was Canadian, Local Talent!
I've met both Sylvester and Sophie. Lovely people and among my favourite Tardis teams.
I met him on the underground! I went up to him and said ‘you look just like dr who’ he replied ‘that’s coz I am dr who’ we then chatted all the way from Baker Street to West Hampstead. Loveliest man ever!!!
Love both sylvester and Sophie, they're amazing I do wish either of them could return, but the audio dramas are doing me well so far, I am now mid way through thin ice
He mentioned Dunoon! I remember in a Doctor Who magazine interview he said he was once called "The Twist King of Dunoon" because he taught the dance to the people who lived there.
Honestly the most underrated doctor
I met Sylvester, he's a lovely guy
Ace, Hex, Chris Cwej, Bernice Summerfield and the Big Finish version of Mel Bush are some of favourite companions.
After seeing them both in power of the doctor this weekend you can see how good they are together
These two are just so brilliant together; I loved their episodes together,. and seeing them together again years afterwards, they still have that chemistry and magic between them..... wonderful! 😊
Fantastic chemistry between these awesome actor's & thanks to Big Finish we've heard these characters expand there story arcs through some very dark times, that opening episode of Afterlife still gives me chills.
Shame he never played the Penguin. He would be good at that role.
best episode of doctor who in years
even now at 80 sylvester mccoy is spry and energetic. what a gem.
Thank you so much Big Finish for this, love these two. Is Sophie a Timelord as she just doesn’t seem to age at all??
30 years, I've loved these two.
They both sound totally the same together. Their Big Finish work must be super!
Met both of them at a Comicon and they are both really nice people!
Love these two!
Thank you both for this. Simply amazing.
Nothing but love for these two.. ❤️❤️
Aww this is lovely!
2 of my favourites - just love them both and, as others have said, the chemistry is magic.
For many the show is what brought them to Doctor Who, but for me it was these two talents (& talented Philip Olivier as Hex), and Big Finish. A big thank you to all who worked on these audio plays and brought me so many hours of entertainment and fun.

Immediately think of the Timeless Child revelation when they start discussing this. I know a lot of fans hated it but it's interesting that previous cast are on board with it, even if they didn't know it at the time. I mean they literally ponder the idea of the Doctor being godlike, and look how it's turned out!
I did enjoy watching those two together on TV when I was a kid. Such amazing chemistry between them!
What a great duo, and wonderful rapport
I love how Sophie struggles to read all the posters names instead of just abbreviating them
Oh, I loved this! Yep of my favorite people from Dr. Who!
Interesting how they brought up the idea of the Doctor being the Other even without being questioned about it. Perhaps because the show is currently touching those topics again?
Awesome!
Thank you! Got the biggest laugh from the Waterloo Station story!!!
It's great to see them so comfortable with one another after all these years...
I just bought You Are The Doctor and Other Stories!
Big Finish, I doubt you're reading this, but I would really like it If you tried the choose-your-own-adventure format again. Except, really go all out with it. Don't just make it so that it's kind of a predetermined path anyway. Actually, go ahead, and make multiple branching paths, that lead to different endings. I think it would be fantastic! :)
I second this!
Seven & Ace, one my top 3 classic series Doctor/companion combos with Two & Jamie and Four & Sarah-Jane. Just wonderful.
"Come on, Professor."
"I am the Doctor, not a professor."
"Sure thing, Professor."
Lol these two are hilarious, I love this.
This was a delight. Sophie and Sylvester have such great chemistry. I could imagine them being given a structural story outline and improving an entire story. You'd never tell because they are such great friends.
Love it. ACE and the 7th Doctor just get better together. Love you both
Has Sylvester ever ended up getting that unlimited rice pudding?
I have got to listen to some of these Big Finish audios, especially with them in them.
They're very good. Especially with Sophie and Sylvester because their voices haven't aged a day.
@@lapelcelery42 I have been meaning to look into it but they are kind of pricey. :)
I got to listen to some more Audio Who. Sylv and Sophie are wicked, they work so well together, they make it feel like it ain't work, and that's how it should be. The Doc and his companion or rather two best friends travelling through time. ☺
Love these two
Best pair up of Doctor Who! Loved how Sylvester played the Doctor who was both mysterious and dangerous while playing it light on the topside.
I want these two to come back into the show for a speial or something. They have such great chemistry and they are one of best Tardis teams.
I hope you got to see the TV season finale this year - they were wonderful together even though the scenes were short.
Really, they should give them a mini series. Since we know the Seventh Doctor lived a fair long time.
Please write a story Sophie :))
Didn't she write: 'A Childhood's End?'
@@carealoo744 she co-wrote it with Mike Tucker and Stephen Cole.
@@Jack-Oates Oh.
@@carealoo744 to be fair, she did write most of it herself and, they were just thier to help with continuity and such.

I want them to do something like this again
I met Sophie earlier this year. She turned out to be a childhood friend of my boss! She was so truly delightful, and was very sweet about my ‘trying to be professional but actually being a total fanboy’ conversation. She thanked me for for being a fan. Day made!
Love these two ❤️❤️❤️
I was in my early teenage years when Sophie Aldred and Sylvester McCoy were playing the doctor and Ace . Really enjoyed them both, and as a Tom Boy lady, i always wanted to be like ace
