    I bought a used Sion FRS from a third party dealership. As I got home the lugs were for a different car forced to fit on the stock wheels, the front bumper was being held together by glue same with the side markers. Had cheap brakes and rotors. The main body of the car is losing paint from being in a state with snow and salt, and now being in California it cooks the paint right off. I blame no one but my self , another life lesson never rush getting a car. Have about 6 or 7 that you like not just one you think is good

    It is not wrong for a business to make money. You are doing the same. The point is, buyer beware. I have bought cars from a used car dealership, had it inspected and driven it trouble free for years. Also, I know that buying a used car comes with risk. However, if I can buy a four year old car for half of MSRP, I am okay if I have to spend $500 for a brake job or have to get the AC recharged. You can buy a piece of junk from a private party as well. Either way, do your homework, get the car inspected by an independent unbiased shop.

    I worked as a salesman at a new car dealership for 6 months. I sold a brand new CR-V to a lady who spent $28K on the vehicle. We gave her $7K on her old one. My sales manager told me to put the trade-in back out on to the used car sales lot for $17K. I was flabbergasted. Didn't happen all the time, but it happens for sure. Only three times have I purchased one from a dealer, usually because I was in a bind. Two were very good, one was a bad deal. When buying from individuals I have only had one car in 47ish that wasn’t a good deal. I think that says it all.

      Just remember that in ANY business, the customer is king, and any business not willing (or able) to accommodate the wishes of the customer, isn't a business that ought to be sustained.
      That's how a healthy economic system operates - with the customer at the head offering payment and profit, and the business growing ONLY on the condition that the customer is happy.
      A business should never be favoured over a customer under ANY circumstances, and if it is, it indicates that there is a problem with the person supporting the business.
      Were it not for profit, it would be a different story altogether.
      Profit is what makes all the difference.

    Nothing wrong with a used car. Even if you overpay, it's cheaper than a new one. Get a inspection before you buy it and make sure you're clear on everything that"s being inspected. It's your investment, so expect make repairs. Spending a couple of hundred dollars a month in repairs is a lot cheaper than paying twice as much or more on a car note.

    • @levarjones5432
      @levarjones5432 4 года назад

      A used car from a local dealership is Definitely not better than going to a dealership. You may pay more a month but at least it's certified and comes with a warranty. That buy here pay here market needs to STOP! It's highway robbery! When you get a car from them mom& pop's dealerships you have to pray and hope you get a good one. And that's alot of pressure! Especially if you get a high end car. I can't believe you even said that dumb shit! Yet I can bcuz people will say anything to hear themselves talk!

    • @juniorquarles9120
      @juniorquarles9120 4 года назад

      @@levarjones5432 No dealership, new, used, mom or pop, is your friend, and definitely not protecting your investment in any way. It's no secret that new cars are vastly overpriced, and in my opinion, warranties are a scam. In 2012, a loaded Cadillac Escalade ESV would have cost you $77,000. Today, only 6 years later, that same vehicle is in the ballpark of $18,000. That vehicle's motor(you know, the thing that makes it run), will cost about $4,000. You have to do more than talk about a warranty to convince me otherwise. I purchased a car from a private seller "As Is" for a $1,000 bucks, and over the past 4 years, I've invested $5,000 bucks into a new engine, transmission, shocks, tires, etc..--not because I had to, but because I wanted to. I invested a total of $6,000 bucks, there is nothing left to fix, and I have car that looks and drives like it just left the showroom.

    1st, this is an awesome video with lots of good advice and information without all the exaggerated motions. 2nd, I’ve bought cars from used car dealerships, new car dealers with a used car lot and private party and to be honest, I prefer the new car dealer with used cars for sale. Private party sellers are reluctant to allow a proper test drive or a pre-purchase inspection and lie as much as used car dealers. For example, last year I was in the market for a used BMW M6. I found a 40ish year old guy selling his swearing it’s never been rev’d past 5000rpm and has never had any problems at all; clearly a lie. Just understand that anyone selling anything is looking to profit in some way and that’s perfectly fine and doesn’t mean you’re getting ripped off. Just NEVER pay for any dealer services or service contracts, or prep fees (which is a pet peeve of mine). A dealer prep fee is like ordering food from a restaurant menu with the price listed but when the bill comes you find out you have to pay more for the chef cooking the food. Anyway, thanks for a great video I’m sure the comments will be filled with a lot of different points of view and information.

    This guy definitely got a lot of hate towards Car Dealers. Most of his information is misleading. Every business gets their product at wholesale prices and sell them at retail or close to. Having said that it means used car dealership is no different than your local grocery store, because they paid the farmer 50 cent for a pound of tomatoes and they are selling you for $2.99. However car dealers don't. Make that much as the grocery example. Remember private parties are selling their car because they are sick of fixing it they just want to give someone else that headache. That is in most cases not always tho. There is alot more to be said, but I am not going to write for days to explain just use your commen sense. Having said all this, not all car dealers are honest and not all of them are Matilda's dad either.

    I'll have to disagree on a few points..
    #1 - Not everyone can afford a new car, even if to just lease
    Dealers tend to markup prices by charging on additional options the car has such as a navigation, premium sound system, etc.
    Insurance is more expensive as well because the dealer needs coverage on vehicles they sell when it gets totaled a few days after you drive it out the lot
    #2 - Even if the inspection is 150pt procedure, it's a still a gamble ,but at least you have better confidence
    #3 - Biggest mistakes people make when buying a used car are Not thoroughly test driving it, getting a PPI done( Pre purchase inspection) by other mechanics... I don't trust a used car dealer's mechanic so get a 2nd opinion from someone else

  • @crewmax4240
    @crewmax4240 4 года назад +1

    I've had a good experience with an add-on warranty for a low-mileage turbo hatchback. I bought it in the first place because the contract stipulated that if I didn't use it, I would be refunded most of the original warranty price*, and it was a boi racer car, meaning a high likelihood that it had been driven aggressively. When I started having turbo issues, the warrantor took every word my mechanic said as truth and replaced everything he recommended. By the time the problem was solved, the warranty company paid for parts and labor far in excess of what the warranty cost me, and it will continue to cover the car for another 30,000 miles. I'm certain this is not the case with all warranty providers, but it definitely worked out for me in this one instance.
    I'm not really defending used car dealerships or private sellers. Both can be deceptive. I once bought an SUV from a private seller, and the engine detonated on the way home. My only reasonable recourse was to fix it on my own dime.
    *I understand opportunity cost and that the money could have been appreciating. I still thought it was a reasonable gamble.

    I bought a 15 year old Mercury Grand Marquis from a used car dealer in New Jersey. I drove the 200 miles to see and drive the car. I had looked at the Car Fax and was very sure the car really had only 19000 miles on it. Because I had cash, the dealer gave me $1000 off. The dealer also helped get the car on a transporter. The car arrived on time and the only things I have done besides regular service was a set of tires and a new serpentine belt. The car now has 24000 miles on it. The dealer did disclose that the car had been in an accident 10 years before, which I already knew. No high pressure, no pushing to finance, and no pushing to buy an extended warranty. They did exactly what they said they would do.

    Yep. And got royally fucked. It was my first time and I wasn't really car savvy so I didn't get a car fax. The car had been in an accident. So I bought it for $13,000 and it was only worth $7,000-$8,000. Instantly deep upside down. And then the engine blew up. Had to replace it so that makes $17,000 for a car that's worth $8,000.

    I bought my 2004 Monte Carlo SS from a used car dealership, I bought it because I was looking for such car. I paid $4600 dollars for mine and paid $75 dollars a week to make my payments. Still drive that car even to this day, it also has the getup I like as well, not too slow and good on gas. For being a V6 it has a fair amount of acceleration when you want to put the pedal down.
    I couldn't find such car from a private party because at the time I didn't have that amount of money saved up and I've really never found a private person that would allow you to make payments on a car rather then pay in full.

    This guy is pitching a line of crap no better than a typical used car huckster. Maybe worse. Get a car history through Carfax. Check KBB. Check NADA. Do a third party inspection ($100 - $150). Have selling dealer pull the repair history (assuming it's same make). Big gaps? Run. Think you need warranty? Don't buy it! Purchase a vehicle brand/model with a long established history of reliability. Pay cash. NEVER finance. And, finally, nothing wrong with dealer making a profit. It allows you to come back for another car. It's the Craigslist (one shot only) thief you must avoid. Right, Brad?

    I have bought 40 motorcycles and over 30 cars/trucks in my lifetime. I have been inside the auto auction with a friend who was a dealer (I was a "driver" for his business). I will only buy from a dealer now. I have had problems with vehicles from private parties and once the money is in their hands, all their problems with the car/truck/motorcycle is now your problem. I bought and Audi Quattro from Acura of Reno. I got it out of the dealership as it was turning dark. Half way home, I turned on the lights and they came on. Then I hit the high beams and all the lights went dead. Put it back in low beam and all the lights worked. Called the sales manager and he said, "AS is means AS is." So, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and with the NV DMV. The sales manager called me the next day and asked me to bring in the car to be repaired on their dime. Audi had a common flaw with those cars and it was in the steering column. Acura sent the car out to Audi to be fixed. That too a week. In the meantime, Acura gave me a new car to drive and they filled up the gas tank for me before I left the lot. I drove their car for a week and they gave my car back with it being detailed before giving it to me. That is why I only buy from a dealership now. Those "check lists" are a legal tool against the dealership. The are bound by law to do a complete safety inspection and if they miss something (as is was with Acura), they must fix it or the DMV will take their license away... I met the owner of Acura and he apologized to me personally for the mistake. I gave them a good review since anyone can make a mistake, only a honest person will fix their mistake even if it cost them more than they sold the car for. Total repair cost from Audi to Acura? $3500. Price I paid for the car? $3800 OTD. They lost money on that deal...

  • @ozzierabbit587
    @ozzierabbit587 4 года назад

    Alot of the cars that used car lots get are off-lease vehicles that are usually in pretty good shape, as the previous owners had an incentive to take care of them. They can be good choices, and private parties usually don't offer these for sale. Remember that they may have received minimal maintenance over the typical lease term (three years), and will need some items serviced upon purchase (i.e., brakes and brake fluid, for example). Others were rentals, which were driven by many people and are more subject to abuse. I'd generally steer clear of those. This info will oftentimes be on a Carfax. Private party purchases can save you significant money, but be prepared to spend substantial time and travel shopping, and always get a pre-purchase inspection, which could be a significant cost if seriously considering multiple cars. It may also be difficult to find private-purchase cars with the options that you want, and you could find a desirable car except for being turned off by that white or black interior, for example.

    4:20 - If the dealer paid $6500 for a used car, they would list it for sale for at least $12,000. They would have to figure worst case that they could sell it for $8,000. They will not negotiate down in price more than $500. They will slowly lower the price if the car does not sell after 30 days, 45 days, 60 days, and especially after 90 days.

    I bought a 2013 Veloster Turbo with 5,900 miles back in July of 2018. It was fully loaded, and had the special matte gray paint. This was like the 3rd Veloster I was looking at, it had a clean carfax, and I thought it was the best one so far. They were asking 15k but I negotiated it down to 11.5k. However, during the test drive, I wasn’t able to get it into 6th gear, and after I got home, that’s when I realized that the transmission was one of the few lemons. However, I got a used transmission with like 25k miles, swapped it out, and paid just over 2k for it. I still saved money in the end, compared to buying a brand new 2019 Veloster, without the turbo engine
    Despite the bad transmission, and needing 4 new tires (they were the ones that came with the car new, the tread was fine but they were almost 7 years old and the sidewalls started bubbling), I think I still got a pretty good deal in the end. But I don’t think I’ll ever want to go to a used dealer again without bringing a mechanic with me
