I followed the recipe exactly. It only made one .15 oz tube. Shouldn’t it have a carrier oil like almond oil? The end product was dry and cake-like. I could not apply it to my lips because it was so dry.
Where did you get your tallow from? (Mine is homemade, but I have also bought it from several places.) Mine is quite soft so it needs the wax to harden it up. If yours is very hard for some reason, yes, you could use a carrier oil to soften it. I've never needed it, though, and my finished lip balm is very soft and glides on very easily. Something else sounds off, though, as I get 3 of the standard sized 5ml lipgloss tubes (which I think are the .15oz your are talking about). What are you using to weigh it out? I've made this several times now and never had issues.
Yes! Ideally, you'll want to look for an oil-based flavoring. (Or maybe glycerin based) Anything alcohol-based may or may not stay incorporated into the mixture. Water-based products would need an emulsifier or solubilizer and technically a preservative. Of course, you'd be using a super small amount, so you may be able to incorporate an extract without issues, but I'm not sure.
Hmmm.... interesting question. I've never used a wax on my hair, so I'm not too familiar with the texture of the products sold or how they work in the hair. I'll have to look into it more. That said, I'd imagine it would work. I use the tallow balm (without the wax) in my hair often and love how it adds a bit of softness and shine.

Belleza de lipstick, gracias
De nada! 😊
Thank you! This looks like a great project. My son wants strawberry flavoured lib balm-instead of essential oil can I use strawberry flavouring?
