Your videos were part of the reason I invested in OM1 gear after six years with the Nikon d500. Now you’re jumping ship and going to Nikon. The z8 is a fantastic camera (apparently) and I’m sure you’ll get great results with it.
I have a D7500 with a Sigma 150-600C as a second system. The good thing about the Z8 is that it takes the same battery and has an SD card slot. I’m looking forward to your experience with this camera.
I love a grip on a camera but I'm getting old and the Z9 is too heavy with decent lenses so I went Z8. The things I miss most are 2x CFEx cards and GPS... But it's brilliant, really.. Your first shot, never mind saying anything about it technically, is a brilliant situation and capture. The gaze of the two animals is mesmerizing.
Hi Richard, I traded my d500 for a z8 and 180-600 lens at Christmas. Set it up how I went out shot 300 images only to find Apple photos didn’t support Raw. (They do as of February 24). So jpegs? I have to say I was very disappointed with these compared to om1 and 300 f4 raw files which are absolutely pin sharp. I use each camera equally now and each has its own advantages, but if I had 1 chance to nail an important shot I would chose the om1 with said lens I just get more shots . It has got me wondering if a prime would be sharper but initially I did try a 500 pf lens but results were similar to 180-600. It’s nice to have the versatility of both for different scenarios , particularly hide work with both set ups. All the best with yours👍
Thanks Laurence. I didn’t know you were also using the z8. I definitely intend to keep using the OM1 and hopefully will use both systems alongside each other. Whatever happens they both seem great systems. 🙏👍😀
Congrats with your Z8! Yeah the OM-1II bird detection works a lot better with (very) small birds, if there is nothing blocking the view it had always recognised the bird, even if it was too far away for a decent shot. Something I didn't experience with version 1. The OM-1II has a true blackout free viewfinder and makes the camera feel a lot more responsive.
Thank you. Would be interested to see the bird detection at work on the OM1 II and to try the blackout free view. Thanks for letting me know…maybe I’ll get a chance to try it in the future👍🙏😀
I have been Z 8 curious as my om1+300 f4 drives me mad with dropping sharpness after the first frame. I don't get a lot of photo time then opportunities and the OMG1 let's me down. White barn Owl = full on blob on a dark back gound. Hovering sand marten =blob. I do get some great results but I'm gonna slam dunk the 4*#cker one day lol. Looking forward to your z8 views and images.
I certainly haven’t had the issues you are describing…and I still think the OM1 is a top camera but everyone has different experiences. I hope to shoot the 2 cameras side by side 👍🙏😀
One thing I don’t understand about the OM-1 and OM-1 mark ii is that why is the black out free shooting is limited to a particular shutter speed ? Even the OM-1 mark ii still has that limitations ? Why ? The Z9 or Z8 does not have that. You can shoot black out free at any shutter speed ? Does anybody know the reason ?
I have been using the Olympus system cameras since the OMD-1. Currently I am using the OM-1. I was disappointed in the version 2 and will not upgrade. Om seems to no longer innovating , rather just minor updates I may well switch to the Nikon as I like the layout of the bodies and menus vs Cannon and Sony. For now the OM-1 is still working for me.
Hi and thanks for commenting. I wasn't expecting to see a huge difference..plus these shots were only the first couple of hours with the camera. It's only in certain sutuations that there might be a noticeable difference but in most cases there won't be. 🙏

Thank you…not quite jumping ship. I will continue using and making videos with the OM1. Take care👍🙏😀
Congratulations on your Z8, Richard! I'm glad you were able to score one and look forward to seeing more of your photos! Exciting times!
Thank you very much Blaine. Appreciate it. Have a great day👍🙏😀
Great photos Richard. I've been dabbling with the idea of swapping my Z7 and D500 for a Z8 to do everything. Maybe later in the year.
I've only had it a little over a week but really enjoying it at the moment. Had the Nikon z6ii before and it's in a different league to that camera.

Thank you. Yes being able to use the same batteries especially is a big bonus😁👍🙏

Thanks very much. Yes I don’t think I will get a grip.. luckily I have some batteries from my old d500 and Z6II to use in the z8. 👍🙏😀

Make sure "if you haven't done it already" to change the EVF refresh rate to 120hz. It helps with fast moving subjects. By the way, I shoot the Z9.
Thanks for letting me know. I hadn’t done that, so will now. 👍🙏😀🕊️
Only good! Now another Z lens. Btw, the OM1II also has a true blackout free viewfinder (better than the OM1).
Thank you. Someone mentioned about the better blackout free viewfinder on the mkII…hopefully will get a chance to try it sometime in the future 💪🙏👍

Yeah I’m not sure why that is the case. It makes such a difference having BO free shooting. 👍🙏😀
Sorry about the audio. I was using my phone🤪🙏👍
I thought your mic was plugged into your old Fuzz-Wah pedal xx
@@skaterJelly haha…just looked up what a fuzz wah pedal is?😀🙏👍💪

The original OM1 is still a great camera…that I will keep using. Thanks for the comment🙏👍😀
Can’t see any difference in the quality of the images to your om1

Damn that audio. Ouch!!
Yup I know. Had to have an ear transplant after editing the video. Think of it as high frequency interrogation torture training. You’re welcome😀🙏
