Disney actually did "diversity" alot better when they didn't push it to the forefront. Disney wasn't gloating about "having the first native Hawaiian character" in their movies with Lilo and Stich. They didn't call people who weren't fans of one princess story or another "sexiet"

It’s mostly a marketing gimmick to get butts in seats. Like what they did in the Transformers movie. They advertise Dino-bots and they’re barely in it. Disney advertises diversity but you barely see it or the story and character development is bad
Disney today sees minorities as nothing but shields. They can’t tell good stories anymore and they know it; so they shove “diversity” to the forefront so they can write off any detractors they get as “bigots” or “phobes” or whatever. Disgusting.

Disney as a company has ironically become as greedy, selfish, and corrupt as some of their greatest villains in their heyday. The fact that Dreamworks, a company born to SPITE Disney, made a film like Puss and Boots 2, that had more soul and genuine love in it in 2022 than anything they or Pixar made in 2023 is hilarious, yet disheartening.

I’m convinced _Wish_ was a low-effort rip off of _Puss in Boots: The Last Wish:_ a story about wishes set in a Spanish-themed fantasy nation, with a painterly aesthetic. Difference is that Dreamworks went all out to tell a mature and surprisingly deep story, while Disney had ChatGPT write their script (yes I 100% believe that!).

I’d say mature. Yes, it has its share of kiddy jokes because it was made with kids in mind, but Puss’ fear of death and quest to reclaim the past lives he squandered resonate with adults much more than kids.

@Dtv8564 puss in boots might not be "adult" if we talk about what Western Media considers adult (excessive swearing, gore, blood, crass humor, degeneracy, and sex, Yoy know, Things a Raging hormonal Teenager thinks what Adult is) but it was definitely mature, as it never sugarcoat the fear of old age and death, it showcased real mature worries, like fear of commitment. And it even showcased the 3 flavor of antagonist. Force of nature(Death), Heroes who happened to be on the opposing side(Goldilocks and her bear family), and unapologetically evil(Jack Horner).
Bold of Pippa to assume the animators were part of this meeting.

Idk about inspiration (though I'm not discounting it). I'm more concerned about the Western money that's going to come with strings attached for any studio that becomes too reliant on it.
I dunno. I feel like some of the bigger studios are going down the route of producing slop because they want to be safe/inoffensive.

I actually got curious about Wish and found out the main MC was originally going to have a love interest which happened to be the star who was going to be a shapeshifter from space (there more to it than that but hard to find the actual source now) also the king and queen was originally going to be an evil couple with more development. But Disney being Disney they didn't want to take a risk.

Pippa's not wrong, though. There was no theme or overarching feel to the house, making it feel all over the place. You had actual themed rooms like the movie room, or the kid's bedroom, but then everything else just had no personality. It was like a model home.

Thing is all the pushback Disney gets nowadays is beyond justified, I still have nostalgia for how it was. They used to make stories for everyone, but now it's just senseless schlock that talks down to you. Pixar haven't made anything of quality since Wall E. Corporate practices aside, they still hold so much artistic relevance, but it's been hijacked by the same greedy people who put marketing over art. Even as someone who unironically likes the stuff I grew up with and older, I still can't deny it.
Perhaps it's not the corporation exactly, but who they hired to write the stories that are the problem.
