I REALLY like the idea of attaching the anchor rope to the bottom of he anchor and ziptying it to the top to break free in case of a snagged anchor...BRILLIANT! And the retractable clotheline is a great idea also.
Nice solution and cheap!!! Congratulations!!! Thanks for sharing!!!! That i have in mind is to use something like this when I receive my own kayak... That spring return coil was sail for drying clothes!!g! That i have not see yet in kayak set up and i have in mind to do (you see I'll use my kayak in open sea) is a system with lights (I have already think about how to do) for the night!!! We are fishing kalamari the night so the light is a "must" for safety reasons!!!! A pvc roll bar is needed!!! Have good time every time!!! Best regards from Hellas (Greece)!!!
Hey Bill - I just got my first kayak and have been looking at a bunch of different ideas on a crate and I really like what you've done here. Very well thought out and useful! Thanks!
Great job! Just getting started in my kayak fishing and I found this so helpful. Got to think about what is important to bring and make sure it can be tied down. Mine is a tandem, so grand kids or my wife. We also have a couple storage bins that are waterproof. I might think of lunch/snack/drinks to go in there.
Awsome mod bro. Have my new hoodoo 120, and allot of new toys to add. I bought the yakgear 30x30 crate with the rod holders and pouch. But I wanna DIY my kid, and anchor storage. Great ideas. Thanks..
i made one just like yours but used 11/4 pvc for rod holders flared them out with a heat gun and a old beer bottle and drimle ! tool! works really well, tight lines
Any chance you have a video of how you put the bungee and ball on there to secure the top lid to stay closed? I am making this exact crate and can’t see how you installed that part
What is the purpose for the yellow golf ball in the crate? Was it to demonstrate you can throw anything in there, or for dramatic effect? Great video btw and thanks for sharing!
Hi Bill.....Would you prefer or recommend a seat that would swivel 90 degrees left or right? What are your thoughts on installing a couple of skeggs to keep you tracking straight in the current. My favorite back bay flounder fishing spot is far from my launch point I can use the tide to help my transit but how about a trolling motor and a fish finder??
First, I am going to assume you have a catch 120 and base my answers on that. I've seen the swivel seats on the Nucanoes and the Native Titan... both are really stable kayaks and can manage weight shifting around. I do find the catch 120 to be stable, but I do not think it's on par with those boats. I guess it would depend on you weight and size. I would absolutely put on a skeg! At least one, two may cut into your maneuverability... Here's a link to the vid I shot of my skeg install, hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/fFHk-eYRfVw/видео.html
I had a simple Lowrance unit on my Catch 12 thinking at the time, "how much fishfinder do I really need on a kayak?" As I found myself fishing more out of my kayak and on larger bodies of water than I expected, my tune has changed. I now have a Humminbird Helix 5 DSI w/GPS. My answer is to get the largest screen you can manage on the boat and with the most features you can afford. I've never been one for putting a trolling motor on my kayak, but I'm seeing it more and more out there on the water.
I’ve seen people rig there anchor like yours, I really like it. But I also want to be able to quick release mine. I like your idea, but was wondering if now you had any other ideas to quick release your anchor
Is that thicker red and black anchor line all the way up into your retractable clothes line reel??? I really want to do and anchor reel and crate like this. Nice work!!! One of my favorites on RUclips!!! It’s simple, usable and practical. Not too over the top. Thanks for sharing.
depends on the length... I pour 5 inch stick baits and though, i've never actually measured out what I get out of a single cube as I always add bits of old plastics. I would guess you'd get at least a dozen out of a cube.
Bill, the Amazon link to the retractable clothesline isn't working for me. Can you tell me which one you used, and did you open it up to insert your own anchor rope or just use the clothesline inside?
Great video! Have you had any issues with the retractable line for your anchor? I carry a 3.5 pound anchor and I would worry about it breaking the line if I was trying to pull up anchor in wind...
hey... I've recently began researching kayaks looking for the best bang for the buck.... I'm a bigger guy so stability is huge... looking to do alot of fishing with it. getting hooked on Jackson big rig.... any input?
Watch my "Kayak Shopping" vid. I tested the big rig and found it too slow and difficult to maneuver. From the Jackson line, I really liked the Mayfly. just a hair smaller than the big rig. Stability is almost as good, but faster and more agile. Good luck!
For sit on top kayaks like mine, I can easily spin completely around and access the rear of the boat. I bought my boat for a trip that was fast approaching and with work I did not have time to put one together, so I ordered the Plano-V kayak tackle system, but am going to make a crate for smaller tighter streams and water, and this design is perfect for that. Wouldn't be as good for a sit inside, or even a sit in open kayak as it is harder to turn around and access the back of the boat. But even on those types boats, if you have an area in the rear to store items, it is even good for those just to add more storage space.
Cool video bro, it looks like you can get some good stuff in there! Keep up the great work and if you have a chance, please give my channel a look, I would greatly appreciate it!

The lid is frosting on the cake. Love it.
thanks!

That pouch is so simple but genius. that's getting added to mine
Great pole holder for freshwater / small game poles!
great ideas for the novice kayaker or fisherman. i found it very helpful
Thanks!

Thanks Jeff! Good luck on yours.

Nice work. Thank you for your generosity.
thanks to my brother from califorina I got some crates that are 13" x17" and fixing it as needed as well. thanks for sharing. nky to you
Very useful. Just starting kayak fishing so great for ideas. Based in Kent, UK but love Canada.
Thanks! I'm sure you'll love fishing form a kayak!
nice i made mine 3 high top two are the cut downs for more smaller things and i made a lid out of another bottom
Awsome mod bro. Have my new hoodoo 120, and allot of new toys to add. I bought the yakgear 30x30 crate with the rod holders and pouch. But I wanna DIY my kid, and anchor storage. Great ideas. Thanks..
That crate is a great base!
i made one just like yours but used 11/4 pvc for rod holders flared them out with a heat gun and a old beer bottle and drimle ! tool! works really well, tight lines
Larry Trudell What kind of ball did you use to secure the bungee
6'ball elastic strap
thank you
I used PVC on my last crate. I had a gift card to spend, so I upgraded lol.
Great set up!!
I must admit, that's a pretty sweet crate.
Thanks!
my god... that warp stabilizer
Nice idea with the anchor
Any chance you have a video of how you put the bungee and ball on there to secure the top lid to stay closed? I am making this exact crate and can’t see how you installed that part
Nice crate. Some good ideas there.
Nice set up.
Nice video buddy! Keep the fishing videos up!!
Very good DIY rigging.
thanks!
Are you left handed casting on the left side? Is that why you chose the right side for the 3 extra pole holders?
What is the purpose for the yellow golf ball in the crate? Was it to demonstrate you can throw anything in there, or for dramatic effect? Great video btw and thanks for sharing!
They're practice golfballs and I used them as scupper plugs on that kayak.
Canal Bait and Tackle , best shop in Ma. 👍

Can you show how we can place crate to kayak and make it secure?
That’s a great idea man
How did you attach the 3 Rod holders to the crate? What screws were used and how did you manage with the holes on the crate.
I’ve seen people rig there anchor like yours, I really like it. But I also want to be able to quick release mine. I like your idea, but was wondering if now you had any other ideas to quick release your anchor
I've gone from zip tying from my crate to my seat. It got in the way of other things in the tank well.
Good vid. Some interesting features.
Good stuff man thanks for the share and giving me some ideas!
Can you please add some links for the anchor and the clothes line? Thanks, great video. Subscribed.
Meshak D'Nye thanks! Both links are in the description.
Genius 👍🏼
Thanks!

Thanks! Yes, all the way up, I replaced the clothes line with the rope.
Actual forgot to ask, what kayak is that??
It is a pelican catch 120
Well done.
hey man nice vid! Curious how you mounted the ball to the front? thanks!
drilled a hole in the front and ran the bungie through, tied a knot and ran the tag up through the top.
kinda late but can you show a video of how you rigged it up
This is a great idea. You sir deserve a like and subscribe!
Awesome
thanks!
What's the golf ball for ?
less is more...simple and good .
Thanks for your video!
Pretty cool dude

Nice.. I'm making one for shore..
Nice!

any one will do though
Great video! Have you had any issues with the retractable line for your anchor? I carry a 3.5 pound anchor and I would worry about it breaking the line if I was trying to pull up anchor in wind...
I replaced the original line with a stronger nylon rope.
Nice video! Where did you get the milk crate?
It's a Yak Gear crate. you can get them online or at stores like Gander Outdoors.
Bill what type of ball did you use to secure your bungee
it's a ball bungie. Like these amzn.to/2oY5LPJ

Bill, how did you attach the ball and shock cord to the crate?
drilled holes into the crate, then tied knots in the cord on the inside to hold it in place
Can someone please explain to me how it’s helpful for all your tackle to be behind the seat? I don’t understand how that’s convenient

Bill’ will paracord work ok for anchor line?
I don't see why not...
I've seen a lot of people do the crate thing long before you done this video!
how do u,keep from losing ur equipment if u were u flip over?
I have the crate bungled down, floats on rods, leashes on some things and some i would just lose in that situation.
Bill's Catch22 did u make ur leashes n how?
great vid!
where did u get ur anchor ?
Sweet!
Is the crate water sealed?
What kind of spinning reel was that
AbuGarcia Cardenal amzn.to/2sQTu5A

Thanks!
Is it just me or is his camera in this video warping the image?
and ur retractable clothesliner
Hi Angel, I have links to where I bought everything in the description. Check them out.
Nevermind I’m an idiot got it done thanks
nice crate but your camera is wonky.... feels like i'm in a hall of mirrors.
I agree, youtube has a feature that is supposed to fix what they consider "wonky" vids... but it caused the wonky. last time I used it.
Cool video bro, it looks like you can get some good stuff in there! Keep up the great work and if you have a chance, please give my channel a look, I would greatly appreciate it!
thanks! Will do!
