    Thanks to you I no longer have a hole in my roof. The instructional portion of this video made it easy to understand how to do this sort of repair. The anecdotes about naysayers helped me overcome my hesitation to actually do this job. I repaired that hole in my roof for $73 dollars in materials, skills, and confidence to do it 20 more times.

    When I was a landscaper at 23 I wanted to learn plumbing and electrical. My boss would tell me “hey pal stick to landscaping”. On weekends I would work with the electricians and plumbers for cheap pay doing basic stuff. Today at 48 I’m still a landscaper working for myself and I’m experienced in electrical and plumbing.

    People try to discourage you because they envy you. 20 years ago I was about to go to basic army training. A so called friend would tell me I wasn’t going to make it. He wasn’t even convincing. I went and there were times I didn’t think I was going to make it and I’d remember him saying that and I would push on even harder. I did well, passing every test above average, the drill sgt. made me a squad leader taking on responsibilities I didn’t even want. Neighbors have told me to “just hire someone, etc.” like they do and the people they hire don’t do it right and basically stole money from them. I’ve lightly been in the construction trade and have seen how people cut corners because by the time it becomes an issue they’re long gone and scam people for materials. Thank you for making these videos and congrats on 100,000 subscribers!

    Hello young man this weekend coming up I have to do a patch on a 1939 house I believe my father-in-law when he passed away he gave it to my wife now I have to fix it all up lol the piping shot well the plumbing is shot but we have a major water leak in the roof that attacked the sheet rock in the living room so I gotta fix that before I can fix the sheet rock. I’ve watched all your videos and I’ve learned so much without you sir I would be lost thank you and God bless you I know that God put you on this earth for a reason and this is your calling to help dummy people like me tackle some house improvement jobs around because nowadays who can you trust to do honest work. I say that because here in Dallas Texas there’s always someone out to get you but I’m not going to mention any names I watch some videos on how to repair central air conditioning units and I have saved myself probably $2000 worth of repairs alone. But with your video sir I don’t know I’ve saved thousands and thousands of dollars. God bless you sir I pray to the Lord Jesus Christ to bring you lots of love peace prosperity and safety for your family and friends because Jesus Christ is on his way✝️✝️✝️

    awesome.. I was in the same spot about a year ago.. I had to cut around the shingles on one end! it had a valley from the top.. 3 tab shingles were a bit tricky. I used to use a lot of roofing cement on top and sides of the shingle.. the hole was about a large as softball. tree limb fell through the ceiling from a storm! I had a small pin hole which is really tough to find.. which I think I have gotten. it. thanks for your video

    Amen to that. Negative people try to drag us down to there level. Which they don't realize God gave us the gift of a brain and will power and the strength to battle through anything. And what people don't realize is we should all be up lifting each other and help others to succeed where they could not alone. This is what helps create a great society for the next generation if only people could see that the way we do man. And a very helpful video man I appreciate it

    Hi there, I love your channel. I wanted to ask you where can I buy small amounts of materials to do this size project? I'm in the S. TX & trying to help a friend do this repair, but I haven't had any luck at the H. depot asking about this. Thank you in advance!

      Hello Michael, thank you so much. I appreciate your comment… You may be able to try a roofing supply store. Sometimes they sell individual shingles your color. You may need to buy the plywood and roof paper, but some can sometimes find things on marketplace or the secondhand apps… I hope this helps.

    Hey. Thanks for the great content! How much would someone charge for a repair like this?

    • @homemend
      @homemend  10 месяцев назад

      Hey fit thanks for commenting. I’d say a roofer wouldn’t get up there and do this for less than 600? Of course, this is depending on area, slope of the roof, how high it is… Risk factor involved, etc. I hope this helps.

    There a glitch in this otherwise helpful video. It switches to a plumbing repair at 1:46 - 1:57. ' reminds me of my own work.

    I do think you were putting your nails in the wrong location. Don't they have a certain line you follow?

      Hey Ray. The nail is generally put under the above shingles. Just make sure they don’t fall in a joint. You got this

    I agree and disagree with you on the confidence thing. If you are mechanically inclined, sure try doing your own repairs. Some people just are not capable if doing this kind of work. It all comes down to how your brain works. I grew up around construction, but never did lot of it. When I bought my house It ended up having a ton of issues that I didn't the money to pay the pros to fix, so I was forced to do them myself, even though I had not done them before. Since I bought this house I have done electrical, plumbing, framing, flooring, drywalling and skim coating, painting, Pest control, and a complete kitchen and bathroom remodel. So far, everything has worked an I haven't had to tear anything out and redo it. Of course, I have done tons of research to make sure everything it safe and correct, which some people don't do.
    My former step dad had all the confidence in the world and caused tons of damage to my mom's house and left dangerous electrical work and structural damage everywhere that my Dad ended up fixing for my mom after she divorced my step dad. As a kid I watched my step dad destroy a couple different vehicles by "fixing" them himself to the point where they didn't run anymore. He repaired a leaky roof by putting sealant on the inside where the water was coming through and never fixing the actual source of the leak, so it ended up doing massive damage to the roof, which my dad and I ended up having to fix for my mom. The fact is, some people should just not be allowed to work on anything.
