What a fantastic interaction/conversation! I hate that I missed the premiere! I always love hearing the perspectives of neurodivergent individuals in the mental health field. I completely agree that labeling autism as a mental illness is so very harmful for a number of reasons. Thank you for all that you do to spread awareness and understanding ❤
@@AuthenticallyMeAuDHD thanks Heather. Yes I agree!
Thank you to those who joined the Premier
Thank you to both of you. I could relate to all of it and found this very comforting. 🥰
@@AutisticCatLadyArtisan thank you. So glad you liked it 💕
EmJ, I loved meeting with you! What a joy you are! 🧡💛🧡
It was such a joy to do this with you my dear friend. Thank you so much for being willing. Can't wait to see you on Jennys January Collab. 💛
Another great interview, EmJ. Lisle is such a beautiful person and it's so interesting to hear her personal journey and insights. So much to relate to and so much to agree with! 🧡
@@CreativeAutistic glad you enjoyed it Lizzie. It was good fun to do. Have you got a date yet for your surgery?
🧡💛🧡
Great job, ladies! It's always interesting to learn more about another's experiences in life.
@@WilliamOFlaherty thank you William.
This was so good EmJ and Lisle...❤ I am like that in social situations. I say i was born without the social gene. And nor do I have a desire to many times. It's nice to get Lisle's perspective being an autistic Psychologist.😊 She is so down to earth and I love that when I speak to her, it's just like talking to a friend. EmJ, great editing. Great set up and great questions. You are so good at interviewing. ❤
Thank you Jenny. I get really nervous but I'm hoping it will get easier over time.
@zebranothorse-EmJ i couldn't tell you were nervous. It looked like you were really concentrating on what she was saying which is good. Can I ask what program you used and how you edited? Was it zoom?
We used zoom to record then I edited with Capcut- free version. I don't pay for anything yet.
@zebranothorse-EmJ nicely done😊
You are a wonderful interviewer, EmJ, and I am highly enjoying this series! I remember when we all met Lisle for the first time on one of Jenny's creator collabs; everybody wanted Lisle as their counselor lol because she seems like such a natural. I'm close in age to her, and nobody had even heard the word "autism" in the 70s, so like her, I just thought I was the weirdest person I know and didn't know I am autistic. And like her, I felt such great relief to know I'm not a failure as a human being.
When you said you can look around a room where there are multiple conversations/high activity going on and feel that somehow everyone else just seems to manage, I could absolutely relate. Recently, I was in an extremely loud restaurant and could barely stand it even with earplugs in, but I looked around and everyone else was completely fine and unaffected. So weird to me.
I think the reason we autistic people can relate so well to animals is that we share their preference for calm and quiet, and we share their heightened senses. I find that cats are drawn to me. I could tell it was hard when Lisle had to stop herself from talking more about Bella!
Sorry for the long comment, but I could relate to practically everything in this interview. Great job!
What a great comment. Thank you Hunter for talking the time to write it, I enjoyed reading how you related to things in this video.
Yes Lisle was unaware she would join our community so smoothly and quickly and eben though she has stepped away from creating, it's amazing she is still such a huge part of this community.
The restaurant thing... Yes! I always try to go super early if we eat out because then you avoid the larger parties and the rowdy drinkers but going early does mean you might get the screaming children, it's a gamble. One of my fave place to eat is usually always empty which I totally don't get because the food, staff and cleanliness is all top notch. They know us by name and always make an effort to engage with us.
Do you have any pets? Everytime I was Mike I just want to learn all about his cats.
I'm sorry you felt so out of place going up and I'm so glad your found the people in this community now. Are you self identified or diagnosed autistic? When did that happen for you? You engage so much with people's comments, I don't know how you keep up with so much content, sometimes it can take me days to watch something just out because there is just so much I want to watch. Thank you for always being so encouraging on my channel and taking time to comment, it's appreciated!
@@zebranothorse-EmJ Thank you, EmJ-- the sort of kindness that you and other autistic creators have shown me is one big reason I try to be active on here.
Lisle's videos were wonderful, and they are definitely missed, so I am glad she is still an active part of our family/community. What a special person!
Like you, I always try to schedule shopping, eating out, etc., around non-busy times. It's essential to my survival. I totally get what you wrote!
Mike and his cats! They're great. I really like Mike. He's a great advocate and a nice guy. I don't have any pets right now, but I'm strongly considering a cat. They are quieter and easier for me than dogs, and they almost seem autistic themselves; they seem to get sensory overload pretty easily. I've had both cats and dogs in the past, and I loved all of them.
Like Lisle, I was diagnosed late-- last year, at 56. I engage as much as I do for several reasons; it's mostly because I want to support and encourage all of you and help your channels. My favorite channels mean so much to me, as does our community. I have never cared for a group of people so much before, and I have a natural compulsion to encourage people I care about. And to watch people just like me talk to all of us has been life changing and a life saver. I know exactly what you mean about there being so much you want to watch. Aren't there some wonderful people on here? I have had to limit my viewing/interaction to just my top favorite channels only.
Also, people like you, Jenny, Lizzie, Karen, and another creator, Leo, have been so kind to me with offering wonderful advice and encouragement on getting my own channel going. As you know, we autistic people don't always experience kindness, so when genuine kindness like that does come our way, it is never forgotten. I want to give back in some way. So, it takes a lot of effort to keep up with the watching and commenting, but you guys are so worth it (and of course I enjoy the content!). I hope you have a wonderful day, EmJ!
Beautiful conversation.
Thank you Kristen 💕
