french is actually used all around the country but is some provinces more than others. Quebec's official language is french but there's also New Brunswick (where i'm from) that's the only province officially bilingual. there's is a surprising amount of francophones in Ontario and quite a few francophone comunities in the rest of the provinces
Not all canadian speak french mostly the east side of canada I live in Alberta and only know English and some spanish

NutsAboutNames Nope. Not a-boat. I used to work for a company that did customer service for T-Mobile. Americans always thought I was saying oot and aboot. Then I realised they hear the pronunciation of the 'u'. We don't hear it. We slide through it. I don't know IPA so here's an approximation: ah/beh-üt (the 'h' here is silent and would make the 'e' kind of like the 'e' in pet. They are the sound of the 'o' in about. You rapidly slide through the u and don't elongate the 'oo' sound.
as I'm Spannish I really apreciate your clear accent, it's easier to me to understand everything! My favourite accent is in fact the Britsh and the hardest for me to undersand maybe Scotthish or Irish

When I was a child I watched a lot of tv shows in different languages and picked up a few accents: British, Scottish, and French are the ones I can do the best. My own accent is a mixture of New Englander and Southern, although I will randomly get a hit of British or switch to British completely in the middle of a sentence. Can I choose the way a certain person speaks as a favorite accent?

I'm from Yorkshire, so like you said, different regions of England equate to different accents. Think Mel B and you've pretty much got me in a nutshell.
I can put on an Irish accent, a south accent (like, Dolly Parton-ish), I can speak some French...that's about it.

Oli Searcy I'm from Ontario. I say both! It depends on with whom I'm speaking and the inflection. Strange. I'm not sure if you're asking because you're inquiring about the Canadian accent in general; but it often depends on where one is from in Canada. Those of us in Ontario say things differently from those in other provinces. In fact, Southern Ontarians (specifically near American borders) have a longer 'A' than other Ontarians and have a more American-Canadian accent (in South Ontario it's a coin toss between Buffalo, N.Y. & Eastern Michigan, in my experience).
Love it! The little voice in your head that you narrate with of mine was British for a period because of Harry Potter books, so I feel that. proper, for sure ;))

Hey Natasha, I'm in Toronto for holiday since 2 days. Yesterday, I went to a grocery store and the cashier asked me if I needed a bag. I made him repeat it twice cause I didn't understand what he was talking about. It made me think about this video. English isn't my mothertongue but I understand it quite well.

i'm such an accent person omg i love doing accents as i'm an actor as well. i struggle a lot with australian, but it's one of my favorites. i can do a perfect british (when i went to essex people thought i was actually from london omg) and southern of course. my russian makes me laugh, but boy do i love german. and irish/scottish are hard to distinguish i've found.

I'm Canadian but my dad is English and was a stay at home dad so I had an English accent when I was younger and I still sometimes slip into it. It's funnier though when I'm listening to someone and only realise they have a British accent after someone else points it out to me (aka Adele, Thor, and my one teacher who I didn't realise was English for an entire semester)
