The torq-headed bolts on the bull gear that hold the spider gear casing to the gear are always mushroomed on the opposite side of the bolt heads. Instead of grinding off the heads, grind down smooth, the other side. Then the bolts will come out easily and can be reused when reassembling.
This is the same cheap way to convert a passenger vehicle to positive traction. Simply bind the mechanism that allows for the "differential" action between the two wheels and you got it.
In the offroad community we call it a lincoln locker (lincoln the brand of welder). Not sure if you are suppose to put gear oil in those transaxles, I think it is just grease.
Adding dual wheels would give you same traction as posi and a lot easier. I’m fortunate to have found dual wheel adapter on fb market. You have to have threaded holes on plate on one end so you can bolt rims on, cause inner tire blocks access - money to be made mass producing them. I’ll try to post pic of them.
Good call on the gear oil, does it leak? I was thinking about adding a fill plug only to mine. If it does leak, how bad? Let me know please, I may deal with the leak if it's not a mess. Thanks for the video. Don't pay attention to people saying you can't weld stuff together, I've welded plenty of things that shouldn't be welded, they hold, sometimes.
Hi, Crankshaft Garage. I hope you see this comment. I have the same transmission axle aetup that you do. I can see you welded the spider gears to the pin. But did you weld the pin to the axle gear? I can't really see in your video. Please let me know, thanks.
You can broke off your transcase, you need to fill it with EP-0 grease. Maybe 85-140 + heavi duty grease will eork the same, i dont know. Practice will show, who was right, engeneers/you.)😊
Trying this in mine right now. For some reason, even though I put the tourque wrench to 15 ft lbs, I’ve stripped 2 bolts out and when all the bolts are loose, the axle spins, but when I tighten them, the axle won’t spin. Anyone have any advice?
I know this is four years late but if you welded anything to your axle gear to keep it from spinning you should have checked it in Lower housing bearings and spun it to make sure everything was True before you bolting it together. If you see this, let me know what happened. Also does your lawn tractor turn like it used to, or does it push???
Try putting that ball on the bottom like he did. It won’t allow the housing to seal properly. The shift rod bearing is missing on the backside of the shifter. That ball belongs on the top of the shifter, with the spring being inside the top allen fitted screw.
The year and model wouldnt matter much. This transmission is in several makes and models. It's a cvt transmission, not hydrostatic. If your mower has a gear shifter with forward, neitral, and reverse then this is most likely the one you have. There was probably different models that had subtle differences like mounting tabs, connection point differences, etc,but the guts would be the same.

Man of few words and many skills. Solid video!

Good luck trying to make a turn

I would be interested how long that held together. "Sintered Steel" (such as those spider gears) "usually" don't take kindly to being welded

Most diff bolts are reverse threaded so have to tighten to get loose
I'm sure your lawn will thank you...around turns....

Great work. Well done.
It’s all flat land here so I don’t see a reason to change it but for hills and such yea it makes sense
just a heads up, torch the main gear bolts and they will come out pretty easy

Great video man!! Really helped
Thanks for watching! Glad to hear it helped.
Where did you buy the brush? And it’s name. Can’t find the right stiffness. Thanks.
Just get you a 3rd spider gear . They are like 12 bucks. It locks them just as good .
Est-ce aussi efficace de reçulon que d'avant?
Top.👌
This is safe? it can break😮?
If it was turned into a Limited Slip posi instead of full posi, would it be easier to make sharp turns?
No. It'll only make it less likely to tear your grass, that's why they come with open diffs.
I didn't appreciate how rough you were with the top trans mount bolts that go into aluminum threads. Just ran them in with the impact 😢
Did you use that entire bottle of gear oil?
hello, something jumps in my transaxle, it sounds very loud and that's how I would like to do it too, to weld it like that. What do you think?
Could have packed it with silly putty then it would be limited slip wouldnt tear the turf as bad
Does it turn...?
Crank shaft garage what mower did that transaxle come out of

hey mate, check for wear on the bolts and if your missing spacers or washers👍
Nate Levi thanks!
No worries mate

what is the function of that one little ball??

How did you keep the shafts inline to run true?
instaBlaster
any issues with making sharp turns?
Nope, just you can't do them anymore 😉
No way could I do that - I wonder how much someone would charge to do that to my 73 Sears st16

Jaki to ma sens?
Itll get excellent traction in forward or reverse, but itll tear up a lawn making sharp turns. You're better off buying better traction tires

Craftsman?
There's like 4 brands that use this rear end
So what 🤣
too much welding flash footage.. not enough information explained ... waste of my time:(
