    How did you go on the quiz??

      eeeeeeeeee short attention span guy. I never realized the power of reflected light.

    • @vovabelikov232
      @vovabelikov232 4 года назад +2

      I got the quiz right. Also it made me think more why the margin of core shadow usually looks so dark. It was curious to think about. I guess it’s because this margin is hard for the reflected light to be bounced at. Or it gets it the last.

    • @paulwilson6357
      @paulwilson6357 4 года назад +1

      I did really well, but then I have been studying light quite a lot recently. Those core shadows really make a difference to a drawing!

      Not bad, but I still find very difficult to “see” the shadows.
      Great video guide by the way. Thank you Kenzo!

    Kenzo, the most important aspects of maykos and your videos, are definitely seeing your older drawings and the addressing of inner struggles for me. I've made huge improvements in the last few months, and i think i can confidently say, that i am quite talented (as i watch the speed that i progress) but nevertheless i constantly have to battle my own insecurities. Just a couple of days ago i felt that i have had unlearned everything i've put so much work in to. it is the most challenging aspect for me to not get demotivated. i even was afraid to draw again, because i felt like it would just confirm that i've actually forgot everything - obviously i did not, but the struggle was very real.
    In some videos you've been talking about times when the drawing sessions get worse than those six months prior. that was very important for me to hear. when i feel, like i don't progress anymore it is such a great relief to see you older drawings, as (even if it is ridiculous) i often see those great artists as people that somehow are just gifted, and have always been able to perform what they do now. it is so important to me, that you show your older work, to silence those inner voices.
    In the end learning to draw is actually more an inner battle to me, than a battle to master this craft, as drawing itself is so much fun, that it doesn't seem as "work" to me. therefore i feel, like learning to draw not only makes me a better draftsmen, but also a better human (even if it sounds tacky).
    btw: i draw my quick sketches with a 5.6mm graphite pen, which fell to the ground and broke its tip. that was the reason why my drawings suddenly came out worse and worse. i had to fix the way i hold my pen. and it took me 3 days to notice what exactly was wrong. ^^

    I love your way of explaining and your analytic view. I have also a drawing channel (in spanish) and try to point attention to the pedagogical aspects, so I can appreciate that it is infinitely more complicated than simply showing "well done" drawings. Congratulations for your work, it has a lot of merit! :)

    Excellent tips about the nature of light and shadow on form. It’s a good reminder as it is easy to get distracted by the attention grabbing bits and lose track of the fundamentals

    I’m happy that I stumbled onto your website. I’m 71 years young and I have been drawing since grade4. I’m always have been excited to draw but never took a course. Drawing came natural to me and my father. As time passed on life got in the way and my drawings became less and less. Until I stumbled onto your website. The need to draw is back. With your teaching on different methods my drawings have improved . Thank you for making this fun again.

    Thank you Kenzo for another great video. As with all the presentations throughout February, I found it very helpful. I will, no doubt come back and watch them again and again to recap all the great stuff. I really appreciate the work you have put in to making figuary work. It has kept me drawing every day, although I didn't join you for all the live sessions on Vimeo, I have watched the recordings the next day. Thanks.

    It might have to do with the competivity of the human brain, or something else, but I LOVE to see the earliest works done by artists that are way ahead of me; it reminds me that they were at my level at some point in time, and that, with enough devotion, I might be able to be just like them, or even better. That being said, I loved this year's Figuary challenge, though I did not really commit to it just as I did on the previous occasions; but I still made sure to watch these guides, and I must say, damn, quality over quantity: these last two were eye-opening to me.

    I personally find shading to be one the most difficult aspects of drawing to learn. When I see hyper-realistic shading I'm amazed and more than a little intimidated at how you're suppose to create something like that.

By starting again with the blocking in exercise and progressing slowly i have been able to go through that wall and that's thanks to your way of making videos that really speak to beginners (with or without guests). I'm really so happy about this figuary :)

    5:09 Why does our brain know that there is something wrong with other people's drawings and our own but doesn't know how to make them right?
    That's one of the frustrations of art. You know what you're drawing doesn't look right, but you don't know what it is about it exactly that makes it so.

    • @crypsisjim
      @crypsisjim 4 года назад

      Recognising that you've made a mistake is the first and most important thing. If you watch an expert draw they still make mistakes and have to adjust their work.
      When I can't tell where I've gone wrong I start to measure everything against the model until I find it. As you progress it'll become easier to see what the problem is.
      If you can't tell where the problem is exactly, you can cover parts of the drawing with your hand. This way you can isolate the different areas.
