    I moved paint shops years ago, the first place were hopeless, I go to Rotherham refinishing and it's always spot on, I'd take the car over and get them to camera it up for the match.

    You need to do some spray out cards you tube it! Have you looked at the data sheet as well see what primer and roughly how many coats of base and pearl is recommended? Like a Ruby red ford you need dark grey primer 2 or 3 coats of base and 5 coats of pearl..

    • @HomeBuilt
      @HomeBuilt  7 месяцев назад

      All applied to Renault spec mate.
      Spray out cards are ideal if you have the time and a way of adjusting the colour but not so much whem you buy small amounts from the paint supplier.

    That probably why it has a full respray in a VRC they couldn’t a match. I worked in one that what they do.

    Perhaps sand through a bit of the old wing to look at the thickness of paint and primer colour. Good luck 👍

    As someone else mentioned,you never match edge to edge you have to blend onto the panels next to it👍

    • @HomeBuilt
      @HomeBuilt  7 месяцев назад

      I know that but you do what the customer is willing to pay for at tue end of tge day.
      If this was one of ours i would have blended everything

      @@HomeBuilt Yes but doing that you have caused yourself treble the work easier to blend the first time and job done and finished

    U did well to get that match as good as U did.the only way with pearl is to blend adjacent panels.insurance companies allow for blending now.

    Great video with loads of good advice.. I'd take the old wing down to spraystore in motherwell n see if they can get good match with spectro.. but I'd imagine the needs blended either way.. would be a great idea to make a small fan extraction type thing n leave door open slightly that 2k in confined space can be lethal. Iv seen enough of a build up of solvents before it caused an explosion. Gotta get some of the pps cups look brilliant.. Great video steve

    Been painting for many years and that nnp Renault and Ford ruby red are 2 of the nightmare colours. Always need panel blending. Replaced a tailgate once and had to paint rear bumper and both quarters to blend. Luckily roof was black. You don’t great getting it to that standard edge to edge 🙏

    You should buy some paint matching cards from spray store you want the ones with the different coloured primer shades then you can adjust the amount of coats of base and pearl to match the final colour I had a problem with Mazda soul red Chrystal and it was the primer colour which affected the base colour also check your spraygun fluid tip size against what the paint manufacturer says is the optimum size usually 1.2 or 1.3 mm anything bigger overloads the size of the paint droplets looked ok from the distance most customers especially young guys just want their car to look as if nothing has happened to it but like you I am a perfectionist if I don’t like it that’s it game over.

  • @johnelliott7083

    From angles on camera it looks as though the car is multi shades mismatched previously, the pillar looks the real colour 💡 great job anyway

    My experience i warm up the panel with my inferred heater then bake the paint temperature affect the colour

    • @HomeBuilt
      @HomeBuilt  7 месяцев назад

      I was looking at one of those heaters to help out with temps, also looking at a collapsible both for the big unit.

      I just go a decent Amazon 2 bar with thermostat and it helps with metallic and I’ve managed to spot repair even tricky blues my paint suppliers recommend temp control and did give me a chart of temps for metallic plus I can bake and be confident it’s super dry for flatting quicker

    • @HomeBuilt

      They may have only done 1 coat of pearl when it was repainted but the guy at Renault told me 2 coats. I’ll do some spray outs on the old wing and see what I can do.

    Maybe the paint shop mixed a different shade originally for the respray and yours is more mixed to factory spec, you would need to get another Clio same colour with factory paint and compare.

    Looks like it's the paint shops mistake, it's absolutely miles off. Max paint pressure is like 30 psi, must have been mad at 80.

    Your wasting your time with that colour u need to blend all ajoing panels to get the colour right. Don't try to edge to edge it as it won't work

    Its a pain in the ass of a colour full stop.every paint manufacturer is different standox is different than debeer etc etc .i used test cards and it looked great in the workshop when finished but a bit dodgy when i took it outside and kinda like your own ' almost there'.😢😢
