Hi, Maria and Nabol! These Detroit iconic eats look so good. I had heard that Detroit had a pizza, but never actually saw it, so I liked the up close look. You are right: it definitely looks lighter but still similar to deep dish. I thought it looked Sicilian, so when you said it had Sicilian roots, I was not surprised. The vernors ginger sounds really good with the ice cream since the pop is not overly gingery I would probably prefer the mustard coney dog. That Asian corned beef looks really good...too bad there was no sauce for the cheesecake one. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Parnell!! Finally had a chance to respond. So glad to hear that you enjoyed this episode. We certainly had a ton of fun exploring and learning about the classics :-) Hope you had a good holiday.
Too many people say “coming to Detroit is dangerous” because of a misperception that city is horrific. Detroit is awesome. Way to embrace it! (Will have to watch this after the game. Bookmarking for later.)
Exactly. There’s so much we still want to see and do and eat. It’s a very interesting city and we hope to visit again once things go back to normal and the museums and attractions are open again.
Ok, now that I’ve watched...you got to Buddy’s! We went via Amtrak and didn’t have a car, so we were limited to buses & monorails from our downtown hotel. To kill two birds with one stone, had the Greek pizza at Niki’s in Greektown. Exactly was you described. Amazing. I once read that they made Detroit style pizza that way because of the pans they had which were left unused from the factories in Detroit that were making WWII weaponry....so they made pizza in them! Really awesome! Can’t wait for the next one!
It was amazing indeed. We already miss it. Greek pizza sounds very good too. We seriously need an extra stomach. That's such a neat fact about the pan. Very cool.
Hi, guys! Buddies pizza is amazing! We love it. Definitely good stuff. Coney dogs are pretty tasty too. I haven’t tried the Asian corned beef. But looks amazing and yes to the dessert. Another fantastic share dear friends. So glad you enjoyed your visit. Happy Friday. Many blessings to you. Have a beautiful day guys.🥰❤️❤️🌻🌻
It’s getting close to Chicago believe it or not, what makes Detroit interesting is that we’re kinda new to the scene and we have our own flavors and do things are own way.
Whatttt... Asian corned beef! That’s interesting!! Now spring roll cheesecake too, so unique 👍🏻 I want to try both! Thanks guys for showing us unique Detroit food, learn new things from you today 😊
Most exciting of all is the Detroit style pizza 🍕 dang original sauce with a meat 🍖 medley looks so damn good. Quite a thick light crust and the description of that sauce sounds yum 😋 but dannnnnng that corned beef roll for real looks so amazing 😍😍
Oh man I want to try that Detroit style deep dish pie.. I can't believe it will fill you up with one bite! Coney Dogs look good too.. so much toppings on it! The Asian fusion corned beef looks tasty too mmm hand held lol..
I love Corned Beef. Never saw a whole restaurant in it. When I was younger we would have corned beef and rice in our road trips. I like how it is wrapped. That desert is no joke. Thanks for taking us around.
I love a good pizza and a good hot do, but that bread looked too soft. Now the Asian corned beef sounds awesome 👍🏽 Great food choices delicious 😋 thank you for sharing 🙏🏽🤗🇦🇺
You have to have American Coney over Lafayette. The true original. Detroit has wayyyy too many places to try in one or even several visits. Lived here for years and still am trying restaurants I’ve been told about all the time. A HUGE food city.
Love the arts on the building in the beginning. The pizza looks good. It does sort of look like a deep dish pizza. Gooey. Yum. 😋 ginger ale and ice cream!?! I’m intrigued. The hot dog looks amazing. Asian corn beef, just wow. So my jam
Hahaha laugh-a-jet 😂😂 I am intrigued to taste the corney dog. Is that associated with corn at all? Haha Looks like an amazing and generous size hot dog to me 😍
you guys talked about the difference in the taste of the hot dog. you are correct each one of the coney dog chains has a different hot dog recipe that is made by local butchers
Butters has tried Ginger Ale Floats before... they are really delicious. However she used to use a brand of Ginger Ale that's only found in Atlantic Canada, called Sussex.. It's really good! Floats are always a childhood favorite. The goblet was a nice added touch as well.
Hey Maria and Nabol! Never heard of Detroit style Pizza before, but it looks so freaking good! Love that it's square and came out really crunchy! Those are always the best. Great to hear the history of the restaurant, and how they started.
Wow Detroit style pizza looks so amazing!! I thought it’s gonna be dense and thick but from the description it is actually light. Love it 👍🏻 Square pizza is something we made before at home but the dough is not that thick like Detroit style. Now I want to eat pizza after watching this haha
If y'all ever do Flint Mi. You have to try the coneys and gyros at the Starlite Coney Island. All the food is great and greasy and good, good but those 2 stand out and are a staple in the community!
@@KimchiAndBeansVideos You are very welcome! I haven't been in the area for awhile but when i return they are 1st on the list. Great old school diner. Not sure how it is now since covid but you used to have to expect a line. The place was always packed full full!
Other local food suggestions to try out: Saganaki flaming cheese (opa!) In Greektown Bucharest Grill schwarma Slows bbq in Corktown Kuzzo's Chicken and Waffles on Livernois Avenue of Fashion
I like Ice Cream so I’m down for that float. You guys have changed my view of Detroit with your videos. As for Hotdogs, Chicago style os my favorite. But this looked good also. How long were you guys in Detroit?
Midwest pizza for the win🍕 Hmm not sure if I'd like a Vernor's float, but I'd be willing to try it🍨 Those coney dogs look so good. I always appreciate how descriptive you guys are about the food you're trying! Maria you look like you need a cigarette after that corned beef😂🤣
Love pizza!! 🍕 Detroit style looks good I’m a thin crust person too. How I miss Midwest food, especially Chicago greasy delicious food! Hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving 🦃🍽
The Boston cooler was much better when they used Vernors ice cream and the original version of Vernors aged in oak barrels. Vernors now has a bold version which is a little closer to the original. Depends on what dog they use Dearborn vs Kowalski vs Kogel and the sauce Flint vs Detroit style, loose vs wet. Senate vs Layfette vs national. Everyone has a favorite. 😋
So Pizza Papalis is a Detroit based pizza place that has Chicago style deep dish. I'd be curious how you think it compares to an Chicago pizza places based in Chicago.

Great video and enjoying your Detroit series!! Have a great week and love you guys to the mother effin' moon!
When you went to Lafayette Coney you missed the one right next to it. American National Coney Island they are rivals but they are also good friends both Coneys are completely different flavors but you missed the chilli cheese fries. Lol
Coney dogs are the best I have a favorite but love them both when I go to a wings game or Tigers game it's Coney too eat and Buddy's to go for when I get home. I don't live in Detroit.
I love Asian cornbeef🔥🔥🔥
It's soooo good!
What?? Asian Corn Beef???
We have to try that, no doubt!!! Our mouth is watering right now!!
Yes, exactly.
Love the Carhartt shirts in every video. Another Detroit original.
You know it!
Omg vanilla ice cream with ginger ale😯 so genius!!
Yes!
Buddy’s is definitely on our list for Detroit along with Loui’s and Cloverleaf. Glad you guys enjoyed it!
We'll need to go back to try more. And we need an extra stomach! Haha
Pizza is all good and all but the coney dogs are where it’s at here. Very different from anywhere else with a Greek chili sauce. So good.
Boston Cooler looks nice, refreshing after walking in hot weather
It really was!
Thanks for this wonderful video.
Hi 👋 Yasin! So glad you enjoyed it. Have a lovely week.

Greg was actually the first person who explained Detroit pizza to us. Looks delicious, cant' wait! Maria looks like she approves, so I'm in.
Same here! We had been wanting to try it ever since watching one of his videos. So worth the drive to eat it right in Detroit.

That sauce is everything.
Vernors is considered medicine around here as well

Just about to head there in may... From Chicago...
I actually prefer the restraint of Detroit-style pizza
Detroit has had great food for a very long time. Just people didnt know.

Mmm fried cheesecake sounds good. Reminds me of making my guava and cheese empanadas. Yum.
Ufff guava and cheese is one of our favorite combos.
Pizza, hot dogs, and Asian treats!! Now I'm super hungry! Lol!! I needs some now!! Great tour!

What's up Ron?! It really was. We'll need to go back to keep exploring.
I love Detroit and it’s amazing food scene!! Best kept secret in the country.
True!
Hot dogs are kind of bland. Pizza is ok . But the Arabic food is awesome best I've ever eaten. Some good broasted Chicken and ribs there as well
Mmmmmmmm. I now want to go Detroit thanks to you guys. Detroit Style Pizza is my new favorite. Love the crusty a little burnt on the side.
That crusty edge is everything! We're missing it already.

It was so worth the drive!
10seconds in n out hotdogs👌🏻 i'll take anything more mustard or chilli, all good🤤
Hahaha
We love corned beef! yes definitely add it if we ever visit Detroit.
Think we would like the Asian corned beef without the cheese for full flavor of the meat. Maria LOVING it haha. Great choice!
She did! 😂
Never knew of Boston Cooler before, looks great! we will try it here at home using ginger beer instead haha.
That's a brilliant idea!

From the 40s? wow, that dough has history, and more so coming from Sicily.
Love those mushrooms coming out of the sauce
