- In prep for my E-Flite P-47 Thunderbolt Assembly & Flight review posting next week, here's the 4-cell flight video (3-cell will post on Thursday). This airplane flies so nice and is so much fun on 4 cells. Unlimited verticals, what's not to love about that!? ;) Thanks to my friend Air-Jon for filming for me! Oh and the squeaking wheels came free with the kit. :p The full article will be available at thercgeek.com

Gorgeous plane and fantastic shots of it. Just bought mine today and watching this afterwards makes me realise I made the best choice! I'll watch it again a few times more!
Beautiful flight. I like the Moonshot Dive at the 1:55 mark... VERY COOL shot!
Thank you!
I thought that shot was really cool also, definitely made sure I included it in the vid. :)
RC- pilot, model, camera, environment ...All kudos !
Thanks so much!
Wow! She does climb good, doesn't she?! Love the sound of the airframe cutting through the air. Nice flying!
Thanks and thanks for watching! :)
I’m running a P47 on 4S and it’s clear to me the airframe is designed for it! I upgraded the ESC to a 60A, but after changing the stock motor to Eflites own P51 EFLM4115 850kV motor the WOT static current draw was 42A. I’d recommend the motor change & nothing else for 4S. Performance upgrade is amazing. Balances perfectly with an overlander 3350mAh 35C 4S (it weighs 300g)
Nice! Yeah, this airframe loves 4s.
@@Thercgeek with the initial set up 4s is ok?
@@spyglass3978 This airplane has been flying on 4s on the stock setup since I've had it.
Now that's an airfield with a view. I upgraded my ESC in this model and my Blondie P51. The 4S power really enhances the performance of these models. They should have been marketed as 4S models.Your videos are always well done. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching! Yeah, an ESC upgrade is worthwhile for sure. I'm really pushing that stock esc, haha! The airplane flies well on 3s, but it's so much more fun on 4s.
What ESC did you go with?
Great flying and showing how the P-47 flies and looks!!👍😀
Finally! A great video with actual plane sounds and no BS talk or guitar riffs blairing. A + Must get P47 next!
I just bought one of these to learn tail draggers/warbirds, my wheels make the exact same squeaking sound while taxiing...have to lube them before the next flight! Great video, keep up the great work!
Thank you and thanks for watching! :)
Beautifully shot video. Wish I had someone who could work a camera like that. This P-47 sure doesn't lack power and it looks very scale in the air even at that speed.
Thank you! The airplane flies awesome and really has nice presence in the air. I'm very fortunate to have a friend who's pretty good with the camera and has a good eye for video. He's my go to for these vids and has helped me out a bunch.
Beautiful plane and flight location, really enjoyable video, thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Chris, did you by any chance change the factory ESC out to upgrade for a 4s? I was told you couldn't fly it full throttle long on 4s.
No, I never did and it’s been fine actually. My friend has the model now and is flying it stock on 4s also.
@@Thercgeek, I have the Dynam P47 and I’m fixing to get this one from a friend this weekend. I love the Jug!
This jug is a real sweetheart and looks awesome!
That looks great in the air.. Nice weathering job on it.. Kill the squeak..
Thank you! The airplane really does have the presence of a larger model in the air and it flies awesome! The squeak is a feature that came free in the box. :p I keep forgetting to oil the axles, haha!
Beautiful, looks totally real! Where is that airport?
That is the Wingmasters field in San Diego.
Do you use partial flaps on take off and full flaps on landings as the manual suggests? I want to put flaps and retracts on the same channel but not sure how to do this with different flap positions for take offs and landings.
It really depends, but I’ll generally not use flaps for takeoff. If I do, it’s only after I have trimmed the mix in the air. It’s really best to have the flaps on a separate channel. How many channels do you have to play with? If it has to be on the same channel as the gear, I’d put it on a 3 position switch and then setup the mid switch with gear down and flaps up and then the full switch with gear down and flaps down. That way you have options. Not always will you want to land with flaps. Flaps on windy days can make landings challenging on light weight models.
Good info thanks. I have a DX9. I'm new to flaps and retracts so I was thinking of simplifying flaps and retracts to one switch but what you said makes sense. I guess I need more practice. On take offs I find myself concentrating so much on keeping it straight and controlling it once it's airborne, I forget to either raise the wheel or set flaps up or turn off safe select. I've actually been considering taking off with Safe select off.
You'll get used to flipping the gear switch, just takes practice. And, if it takes a lap or two before you bring them up, nothing wrong with that! For takeoffs, I'd say just go no flaps for now and then work up to adding flaps in. Honestly, I rarely use flaps for takeoff unless I'm flying in a competition.
Great video, would like to do the 4s setup, what brand and size was the ESC you used.
I've actually been using the stock ESC and it's been holding up well. In terms of a replacement, any 70+ amp ESC should do the job.
Hi RC Geek, you did fly with the pre-installed BEC and didn't Change to use 4 Cell batteries?Cheers, Wolfgang
Correct, it is completely stock including the ESC. For longevity, it's probably worth upgrading the ESC, but so far it's been working great!
Thanks, but I won't fly with WOT all the time, so I see no probs, too.
any prop or motor changes. looks with that power
Nope, this is bone stock out of the box running a Thrust 4 cell 3200 pack from horizon.
Since E Flite doesn't release much information about these motors how can you be sure the motor is ok to handle 4s on a long term basis? I just got one and would much rather run it on 4s. I have a 70Amp ESC laying around but I am concerned about the motor.
Well, when Horizon sent me the review sample, they sent me a 3s and 4s pack for it. So, that tells me they have full confidence in the motor handling 4s. Plus, if you do have an issue, I'm sure Horizon will fully support the product.
Good to know, Thanks so much!
When I read your a review of P47 Razorback, you seemed to fly the plane with stock motor, esc and 4 cell battery. I have Cirrus 22t with 10bl motor and 40A esc. In your experience, is it possible to fly my plane with 4s 3300mah 55C? I will appreciate your kind response.
That’s a very good question and I’m not sure. I really don’t have any experience with that model and I don’t think it’s the same power system that’s in the p47. If it were mine, I’d just simply test it and see what happens, but there’s of course risk in doing so.
@@Thercgeek Thank you for your kind answer. I will try carefully and let you know in the near future.
Hello good flight, which site is that? regards
This was filmed at the Wingmasters field in San Diego County.
Where can I. Find a runway like that in california
This was out at the Wingmasters field in San Diego. There are number of these type of fields around. Where are you located?
I live in the San Diego area
Would this be a good plane for a first timer
I would say that this is a great second airplane given the added complexity of the flaps and retracts. I'd recommend a high wing tricycle gear airplane when first learning along with some formal instruction to help get you started on the right foot.
Good video
Thanks!
HH rep during e-week last year advised me it was ok to run 4s with on my P-47. So I did. After a few non eventful 4s flights I flew back to back flights on 4s batteries. In flight during the second battery the ESC shut off on temp and I lost power in the air. I replaced the stock ESC with a 65 amp ESC and again after a few flights the ESC cut out mid flight on temp causing me to loose power in the air a second time. Both times I noted the motor was real hot. By the way two different planes but same result. Anyone have this experience?
That's interesting as I've not had that experience at all. How much full throttle to partial throttle flying is being done? I generally only punched full throttle for verticals and occasional high speed passes. Otherwise, I fly the airplane mostly partial throttle on 4 cells. 3 cells on the other hand, I was finding I would fly mostly full throttle to maintain a decent maneuvering speed.
what size 4s pack are you flying with
I'm using the thrust 3200 mah pack that Horizon Hobby sells.
I also have some 3600 mah packs I'm using too.
Wow that's a lot bigger then the 3s paks no wonder it is so fast I'm going to have to try it I made mine fpv
Do you use Spektrum DX9 TX? Than you maybe can be so Kind to mail me your SPM file....I hope may P-47will arrive Wednesday afternoon and I will leave for some vacations on a flying files 200 km's far from here. Would be easier to built up and just use a ready SPM setting :-)
I have this on a Dx18, so can send a file over. It's really easy to setup. Shoot me an email and I can get that to you.
nice!
Thanks!
Are you in SoCal? If so, I’d love to know where this is?!?
This was at the wingmasters field in north County San Diego. As fields go, there are quite a few better ones in SoCal. Where are you located?
