    This is the best video to explain how to do a valve adjustment in general I’ve taken you video and applied it to not only my gsxr but also a couple cars and other bikes thanks!

      Fantastic mate, that's good to hear... yes, it's the same principle to any engine with bucket and shim valving

      Thank you for the feedback... yes it is simple really to calculate valve shims I just don't understand why people use charts at all

      Brilliant that's what I like to hear ... there is always a simple way and engines are quite simple to when you can understand them ....they all work in the same way 👍

      Thank you I Will do the problem is I find SRAD's pretty bomb proof... So it's hard to make problem solving vids of them 😬 I do have another one to work on in a few months and I may be painting it too....

    @ 4:45 you could use a small inspection mirror to help look at the timing marks too. I work on many Audi/VW car 1.8t four cylinder engines and the mirrors help to look at hard to access places.

    Greetings from across he pond. I have a 93 gsxr 750 that has been ridden hard and he valves are all over. Owners manual just says to get em in spec..and although they are in spec I figured having them all exactly even was ideal. Intuitively I also was considering sanding them down. Glad I was right in my suspicion. Thanks for your knowledge. Local help does not exist sadly...

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад

      No problem thank you for your interest... The bike will run with the valvs in spec.. But the problem is when dealers or shops do the valve clearances they leave the ones that are in spec and simply swap the shims that are not... What happens later on its the ones that where previously in spec will now be out leaving the ones that have been changed OK.... I have a tolerance of 0.5 and always put the valves even... If everything g else on the engine is healthy then there will be a real difference in performance and cold starting... Hot starting idling etc

    If you have a ticking noise is that likely from it having to large a gap or too small? Which direction would u adjust within the range of spec to limit ticking?

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  Месяц назад +1

      It is when the gap is too large this usually occurs when the engine is hot as the components expand with the heat....

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  Месяц назад +1

      Put them all into spec if the limit is between 0.10 to 0.20 then set them to 0.19 or 0.20

    You have the only video, if not the best one i have seen on this for my specific bike the 1999 suzukigsx-r750 srad. Far better than what the book shows. I do have a question though. Theoretically if the ideal shim thickness is 1.5 so you still have .2 mm thickness of clearance with the feeler guage after everything is installed- couldn't you (or me) just put all new shims in that are 1.5 mm thick ? Im thinking maybe there is a cost or variation in thickness somewhere in the valve train issue that would keep me from doing that or is it OK to do it that way ? I don't know. I need to watch your part 2 video though for sure but please let me know what you think about my question. I'm a car mechanic by trade and do OK with motor bikes.

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  Год назад

      Hello thank you for your time... With valve clearances you have to measure the existing clearance and find a shim to make the alteration or alternatively you can sand them down to size... If your target clearance is. 0.15mm and your measured clearance is 0.05mm you shim size would have to be less than 0.10 to make the clearance 0.15mm
      So your clearance may be 0.05mm and your valve shim is 2.0mm you will have to replace it with a 1.0mm shim to make the clearance 0.15mm. It's just like filling a hole with a piece of wood but you need a gap remaining so cut the wood down until you have the desired gap

    What about top dead center on cylinders 1&4 and 2&3. You can skip cams 180 degrees. You have to know first in which position are cylinders im struggling with thst dont want fuck up the engine.

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  Месяц назад

      Sorry pal not sure what you mean skip cams there are timing marks in the flywheel for the position of the crank and if you are unsure just insert a long screwdriver into the cylinders and turn the crank around until the screwdriver reaches the very top and stops... that is your top dead center but check the marks in the flywheel

    • @SinisaStjepanovic
      @SinisaStjepanovic Месяц назад

      @@PXCBIKES i had top dead on 2&3 so was confused but i managed. two rotations of crankshaft 720 degree puts cams on two different positions. in order to get your steps cylinder 1&4 has to be on top dead center to get the cams right but if you rotate it again 360 degree cams get on different position. thats what i meant in the first place. Gsxr 600 and k5 1000 here. Those engines if maintained and cared well are indestructible. For this job you have to be on point, took me two afternoons to do not fup. Great stuff, im just adding so ppl can see if they get in doubt. Took me thinking and thinking, questions in head all over the place when you do it the first time. Suzuki love

    So you can actually Sand these shims down is that what you're telling me?
    I thought these would be hardened???

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад +2

      They are hardened but yes you can sand them down.... If there is quite alot to sand down u would just order the shims closest to the size you need but sanding them will get all the valve clearances even.... But you just have to be patient and not to sand a taper on them make sure they stay flat

    • @jeremystarke9381

    • @PXCBIKES

      Valve clearances need to be maintained in any engine ... if you do not maintain or adjust the valve clearances then eventually the engine will no longer run
