Thank you so much, this was a huge help. The printer wasn't recogninzing that I'd just inserted a new cartridge. Now I'm tempted to reset the old one, put it back and see much more printing I can get out of it!
Thank YOU. I spent an hour trying not to lose my patience....... then I went to RUclips...... the rest is history! After replacing the old one, the Replace Toner message kept re-appearing, I thought just maybe...... maybe I put the original toner cartridge back in by mistake! I tried and tried both for nearly 90 minutes before going to RUclips for help....... when I heard the original cartridge’s gear was different, only then did I realize how stupid I was. I do want to add: I had a brassy 2”x2” memorycard on both so I did NOT remove the old one as this video suggests. Works fine
Thank you so much!!! great hack... worked great for me. Needed to print something important and my new toner will not arrive for many days. you rock!!!!
My question is how to turn the reset gear to the position in 0:50? I tried turning from the inside but it only has a few positions and I turned to one and didn't work.
what a pain. Glad I dodged a bullet and got a printer that uses the TN630/TN660 instead. There is no reason for that chip to exist other than to give you a headache trying to use cheaper third party cartridges. At least this video makes it easier for those that own a printer that uses the TN730/TN760 toner cartridge.
Thanks a lot we have a tn760 and it was working after the chip in it but forcing continue as still said replace but was very annoying, the gear did the trick. I knew there had to be some other thing it needed due to the oem new one just working with same chip.
I followed the first part of the video to change the position of the re-set gear. However, I was confused about whether or not to remove the chip. So I left it alone. I don't have another chip to put into this toner cartridge. All I want to do is to use this old toner cartridge a bit longer. However, when I put the cartridge back into the printer with the re-set gear in the new position, the printer display still said "no toner" and the menu buttons would not let me do anything. What do I need to do?
Hi, thank You very much for the great video! But the first shown "right position" of the reset gear at video time 0:50 is different to its position at video time after 0:55 (after reinstalling the side panel). So, the shown position at video time after 0:55 must be wrong, right?
I have seen Brother laser printer toner reset procedures - one to reset the counter by button combination on the control panel - that is clear to me, but this gear resetting i cant understand why is it present on the same printer model/toner as the gear reset method (if one method is present on one model then its clear. but when both methods are present on a model then its strange). Whats the difference between them: if i reset the toner by button combination or by turning the gear? thank you
@@viandant5 now i am confused more :D lets say a specific printer supports both control panel reset and toner gear reset. How is the toner gear reset only by itself going to help if inside the firmware the counter says to replace the toner? Is that counter also connected to the gear?
i followed your steps once before and it worked perfectly, however my printer updated recently and now when i put the cartridge back in the printer just spins the reset gear back into the wrong position. I'm hoping I'm just doing something wrong but I'm worried brother did an update to force these to fail now. could there be a simple explanation for why my reset gear spins itself to the bad position when i push the cartridge back in? @@viandant5 Not sure I understand that step. I have a NEW cartridge, but it gave me the "low toner" error very early into its usage. So I followed your instructions to reset the gear, but did not replace the chip.
Sorry, I don't follow. What is the purpose of the chip? Are you putting a chip from the old (default) cartridge into the new cartridge? why do we do that? If I threw away my old cartridge, you are telling me I should buy a new cartridge and take the chip from that and put it into my current cartridge?
My cartridge is a starter cartridge. A starter cartridge doesn't have the side gear in order to reset its position. What to do? Also, do I need to do anything to the chip already there? Watching the video and reading the comments below made me more confused. SHould I just leave the chip as it is?

You don't need to change chip. In case of not recognized cartridge try this:

It happen that there is no reset of the counter. The lever is what make the reset, not the cover

they have gear and chip. the chip is a copy counter, the gear tell the machine that a new cartridge has been installed
