I love how they use subjective morality in defense of Columbus while simultaneously claiming that the Bible is the source of objective morality. It’s almost like they have no intellectual integrity at all.
Dennis Prager would tell you till his face turns blue that morality is absolute and immutable because it was given to us by God, and therefore can not change. Not ever. Then he turns around and says that morality is relevant to the time period being discussed and, therefore, changes over time.
The words for one of the most famous hymns in the world, Amazing Grace was written by a former investor in the slave trade and captain of ships transporting slaves from Africa to the Americas. He saw the wickedness and evil of the slave trade, quit it, and became an Anglican Cleric and abolitionist He wrote the words in 1773! "I have been blind, but now I see" was about his awakening to the evil of slavery. Why these crazy people want to pretend that no one in the past had a CLUE that slavery was wrong, is just unbelievable.
Kinda weird because the bible condones slavery & gives specific instructions on it, & even christians today try to defend it as being "good," or at least acceptable, because "gawd said it was ok."
Sounds like they think judging figures from the past by our values means we shouldn't respect what they did or their advancements. It's almost as if they have no idea what's being said.
I can't figure out how they squared the logic that open borders = more cartels helping illegal immigration. Like if it's open surely you'd just walk into the country. I suppose it's for impressionable kids
Is Columbus supposed to sound like Ricardo Montalban? Cuz I'm still waiting for him to welcome me to "Fantasy Island". It seems his fantasy involves slavery.
He should say "Ah, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon provern that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It is very cold...in space."
Great point about increased Border Security adding to increased revenue for (drug and other) Cartels. Great point also about Reagan and "the Wall". Fun Facts : I was in H.S. when Reagan was elected Prez. Loved him at first but it took less than his 8 years to despise him. For example; Reagan's _"tear down this wall"_ speech came AFTER a lot of it had been torn down BUT Reagan's image team didn't want a speech with no results plus they were always about helping to keep news away from busy Americans. "busy" by the way because single income families, savings accounts, affordable college, etc. all disappeared with Prez Ron. I was there for it. Finally; Mr. Beat points out correctly in his video that before the increased security, migration would be in both directions as for instance; summer crop picking jobs ended and the migrants wanted to see their families (bringing with them, whatever [very low] wages they were able to save).
I tried explaining to one of my customers last week how economic sanctions destabilize countries leading to increased migration and that strong borders only cause people to seek riskier routes increasing opportunities for human trafficking. The steps that we are taking are having the opposite impact of what they say they do. The dude said, no i don't think thats right ..good conversation
Used to think old time-y gov 'propaganda films talked down to people. Now i realise it was just trying to be understandable to the least common denominator in a country with a high range of education levels. same thing pbs does. This is far more cynical and insulting.
I thank you for suffering through such awful cartoons, but i'm gonna have to play this while skipping through all the prageru clips cuz i just got a fever (& possibly the 'rona) so i don't think i can physically or mentally handle the pain of watching those clips.
"the time determines what's right and wrong?" for some guys who claim to hate moral relativism, that sure is some moral relativism. "Throw away the past," here meaning "not celebrating Christopher Columbus and other fathers of colonialism as heroes." Did they have a Julius Caesar Day holiday in 1492 Spain? This is such a strange example. Shouldn't we treat Christopher Columbus the way he treated the ancient Romans? Huh? How did they write about the ancient Romans in actual 1490s Spain?
To davids point, if u said mayan to the average american theimage tha pops up woul be the scene out of 10,000 bc where the king is at the rop of the pyramid holding a severed head.
At 7:14, Matt reads a letter written by Michele de Cuneo and not Columbus. Not sure if he was attempting to associate that brutality with Columbus first hand or if he was just associating the treatment of Columbus' crew in general. "To cut a long story short" or "To get to the end of the story" is not in the original letter but is a translation best attempt but is close enough.
My ex-best friend produces these videos. I recognize his voice as Chris Columbus. We used to write comedy together, but then we drifted apart because he got in with extreme evangelicals and turned into a proud Christian Nationalist. I’ve known about these videos for a year or so and it still shocks me
The founding fathers knew that the bill of rights that all men should have and all were equal was a huge contradiction when it came to slavery. But they would not do anything because they would have to take care of their businesses and were essentially lazy.
I wanted to make a point about how we wouldn’t be able to praise people by our standards, either, but I realized that most advances that were done against the ruling order of the day would also be considered as bad things by the kind of people to make these videos. They would probably rather they ruled as landed feudal lords who burn heretics, with scientific advances included as heresies. Maybe they’d say Socrates shouldn’t have been made to drink hemlock poison, I guess.
“Slavery better than being killed” as a message to children… from the people who endanger children by sensationalizing the modern trade. They glorify Tim Ballard -Sound of Freedom- who, for his own benefit, created a demand from children so he could rescue them from the people that he asked to kidnap them.
I'm just waiting for the part where Columbus takes the girl captive and has her sent to his cabin and sells the little boy off into slavery and steals their time machine to go back and teach thd ancient Greeks about Jesus. Timestamp please?
PragerU Logic 😂 Christopher Columbus - He was a product of his time and should not be judged by today's standards. Joseph Stalin - He was a monster who killed the earth
10:06 “good and bad are different depending on the time…” This is the “we want it both ways” trick that people with horrible ideas that they don’t want to think too much about use. They are correct, in a way, but will turn around, though, and claim that an ancient book, older than most ideas they know and care about, has everything we need to live.
I love how they use subjective morality in defense of Columbus while simultaneously claiming that the Bible is the source of objective morality.

New Hampshire's motto is "Live Free or Die", so some might not prefer slavery
Hell yeah brothers keep up the good work. You have the support of the muscular class! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
They're putting it on the internet 💪

Not an individual of faith myself, but damn if this knowledge doesn't make me absolutely adore that song.
@@Rad-Dude63andathird Glad to share the story of that song with you.
There were plenty of people in the past that knew slavery was wrong. John Brown, Sojurner Truth, Fredrick Douglas, and even the Founding Fathers.
Facts

PragerU casually forgetting the world's largest cartel is the United States government.
Funny how conservatives claim to oppose moral relativism, unless it's temporal moral relativism.
Great point.
PU infiltrating schools with this horrific nonsense. Appalling.
When you have to argue that slavery is only second to the worst thing possible that could happen to a human, you've got some serious problems
"They do cannibalism. Pass the body and blood of jesus, please."
This Prager U shit is just content for the parents but spoken by cartoons as opposed to something that actually teaches children
"... things were different back then..."
I thought this video was a parody.. but it real is alarming
Sounds like they think judging figures from the past by our values means we shouldn't respect what they did or their advancements. It's almost as if they have no idea what's being said.
Nothin like a goof Prager debunkin. It's been too long. Everyone's favorite nonprofit

Christopher Columbus sounds like Triumph the dog

“De slaves! De slaves!”

And I think he was Italian, he’s saying, “si” He sailed for Spain but he was Italian.
9:57 so moral relativism works when it’s convenient for Christians, but it’s objective every where else 😂🤣
Prager U is a joke and so is Prager!!
Unbelievable. The animation is difficult to watch.
Oh good, going from "they're eating our pets" to "they're eating people".
Damn, this stuff is just vile. Absolutely vile.
The amount of lies, OMG sickening.

It's wild how their eyes just glaze over. NPC's
slavery is as old as time? was god the first slave lol?
180 years after 1492 the Dutch literally tore apart and ate one of their Stadtholders lol
3:51 I can't believe they couldn't even think of a way to wrap that up with anything
You should see the Robert Lee video they released then realized they needed to take down. Overt
The condescension is delicious.

I think the best way to debunk Prager U is just tell people to watch one of their videos for about 10 seconds if you can make it that long
I would literally rather fight and die then be a slave. I'd even fight and die for others to not be slaves...
"slavery is better than being killed" the lesser evil is not a good option!
Then their electoral "strategy" is pretty contradictory

That's not how you pronounce plantains
Good content!
Matt reminds me of Bill Paxton.
It’s the mouth
I highly recommend Near Dark. A Kathryn Bigelow vampire film with much of the cast of Aliens. Paxton plays a vampire that loves being what he is.
@trappedinamerica7740 it's been on my list. I need a physical copy, last I looked, it's not streaming anywhere.
