If I had a nickel for every time Mapo went to check if he missed anything on a BG3 map before moving to another region, only to run into a fight with a bunch of kuo-toa, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice 😂
By snacking on more tadpoles, you strengthened the tadpole you already had. So you had to resist against your own tadpoles' desire to evolve. Consequences XD
All the companions praising Shadowheart´s new look and love for oneself while you are there looking like that. Way to rub it in, I laughed a lot :D... The unlucky overlap.

During the beta / early access phases -- the narrator originally said, when you got to the Guardian creation screen "Who do you dream of at night?" Talk about a catfish! LOL
Eh some people go and make their guardian look ridiculous because they've spent a ton of time making their character and want to rush through the guardian screen or they think it's funny. I always advise people playing blind 'make someone you'd want to bang" when they get there XD

Lol, you had me rolling with your self commentaries on your looks! My first playthrough I too ran to the mirror to change my face. There's three solutions: 1. Wear a helmet. 2. Darken your skin tone so the dark cancer veins aren't so prominent. 3. Load a mod. I darkened my skin and wore a helmet my first playthrough. I now just mod it out. Also, on a side note, for really tough encounters you can have your pets and summons (even mage hand!) drink potions. I save up collosus potions for all my summons for the really serious fights. Mage Hand can throw and shove very well with Hill Giant potions.
I can't believe Mapocolops accepted the evolution just like that. He was supposed to get rid of the tadpole, not embrace its powers. Shadowheart looks stunning, though.
2:20:05 this is the moment I laughed out loud SO HARD! I am so happy Mapo failed that check and didn't reload, this is so entertaining to watch and only getting better!!
and just personally I would be against using cosmetic mods, can't really justify it lore-wise and I think being unhappy with your looks is much more immersing :P
Ah yes one of the best reveals of the game. The ultimate catfish if you, like a lot of people, deliberately made your guardian someone you'd want to sleep with. As to forcibly becoming half-illithid. I'm not sure of the exact number, (or if you have to go zero tadpoles consumed or just 1 or 2) but if you've barely consumed any tadpoles you don't even have to roll to refuse to use the astral-touched tadpole. My first playthrough I was 100% NOPE to doing anything to strengthen the one I wanted out of my skull regardless of what my super sexy dream visitor wanted me to do, so it wasn't an issue when the time came.
What a great episode! Poor Mapo! And his followers 🤣 everyone is commenting happily on Shadowhearts new look and cautiously avoiding commenting his face ! 🤣😭 Love it! Hilarious!🤣 BG3 continues don't disappoint ❤ What is amazing game!
Don't be mad at the transformation, Mapo. Be mad at yourself for trying to deny your character to become an objectively better version of himself! Your character now has the ability to fly - FREAKIN' FLY - , making him far more useful to the party, both in and out of combat. That ability alone is worth the transformation in my book. The other new abilities you can unlock are also extremely good. The developers might as well have called it demi-god transformation instead of illithid. I first played this game with a group of friends. I went for Illithid, and have pretty much done so on every character since as well, because it is so incredibly useful.
Stories that makes you feel something is what make this game great. But to have a choice is what elevated it all time great. The emotion you go through is why i still keep playong this game to this day.
the shadowheart hair change would have happened if you rested one more time in the shadow cursed lands, it’s kinda unfortunate we had both the emperor reveal and shart’s makeover at the same time xD
Mapo I am not gonna lie -- I have been waiting for this particular "revelation" since you started this! Oh my friend, there are still so many wonders ahead of you!
Was waiting for this reveal and you didn’t disappoint lol. You sitting back in your seat had me laughing my ass off. Strap in, sooo much more to come. God I love this game. ❤
I don't know why I laughed so hard when he first spoke to Wyll after the most intense change to his character possible and he commented on Shadowheart's hair, but I did. This game has such great reactivity, but when it doesn't, it's gold.
I felt your pain when you couldn’t get that wisdom roll and I’m so sorry but I was in tears laughing at everyone talking about shadowheart while you spiraled 😂
This is very much the same as in Dark Souls 3 where a creepy dude offers you levels for free and you turn into a prune. To think snacking on a few evil tadpoles could have consequences...
on the bright side, fly is super move efficient and its really good on melee characters. you almost double your movement speed if you exclusively fly in combat. it doesn't use a bonus action either. it's hugely powerful
I was so waiting for this. After all the "who is the dream visitor", and "why am I required to slurp the tadpoles", stuff, I so wanted to see this reaction. Welcome to the main difference between the beta access and the actual game thing, Mapo. Hope you enjoy act 3!
1:26:00 Yeah, my reaction during 1st run as well lmao. And as hot as the Dream Guardian is, which we usually specifically design that way, Emperor is a much cooler character. On subsequent playthrough it is hilarious to hear how and what Dream Visitor says specifically, how behaves in the cutscenes before this reveal, and even after. It isn't just a simple mask as his cover, just like for you, mindflayer can present himself as someone else to others, he has just showed himself to you as he really is in his re-telling of his backstory (literally projected into the mind). Kudos for sticking with the new form. Yes, it is gnarly, ceremorphosis, or in this case partial ceremorphosis, is a gnarly thing, as we've seen during the first few hours of the game. We were also conditioned to view mindflayers as disgusting monsters, and now not only the party has been relying on one and thus survived so far, but we're partially Illithid ourselves due to some choices that were made. On 1st run I avoided all the tadpoles specifically because I presumed something like this would happen, and I know there are mods to "remove" the consequences, but again, kudos for sticking with it (there is no check at all if you don't take any tadpoles, you're free to chose without a roll). Withers says mindflayers have no soul, and that is a fine perspective to have, Withers seems wise, but is it that unambiguous? We've met Omeluum, we are partially Illithid now, shouldn't we ask "does a mindflayer have a soul?"
I originally tried to cover my face with face paint in the magic mirror when this happened to me, but when that didn't really work I used a mod too lol
I can already see Act 3 is going to be an encounter to encounter marathon :D. Great face on Mapo realizing the what the Emperor is, and of course Mapo the character when he chugs more tadpoles.
I usually just eat the tadpole but damn if I don´t use the mod to preserve this beautiful face. I headcanon as a mage my poor girl uses illusion to appear unchanged. :´)
The wisdom save was such a high DC because of the tadpoles you consumed. So you can either A. Break your rule on save scumming to stop something that was forced on your character that you didn't want B. Accept it as part of the story and flavor Im curious to see what happens, this is my favorite playthrough of BG3 (monk supremacy!)
Yeah, the scene where so many promises of not reloading we're broken ... I would think this is the utter moment of most story reloads... more than killing any companion...
Sorry but I was laughing so much at your reaction to becoming half-illithid. I can accept a lot but I absolutely save scum when something threatens my character's appearance, lol. I love the influence the dice has in the story and how it can change your adventure! I also totally understand if you use a mod that makes the illithidfication look less severe.
You have to love the way BG3 implements that your actions have consequences. Sorry, Mapo, but I'm glad you're sticking with your choices. If you're using mods, you might as well get the one that hides your illithidness.
Juiced up tadpole, Advantages: can fly for free now and other potentially cool powers Disadvantages: permanent Robert Pattinson's Batman makeup and 90's Bane's veins.
Mapo: i dont want Scrath to die 😢 Me: Scratch Go! Trigger those ambushes for me boy, so i dont get suprised! 😂 He is immortal, u can resummon him after shortrest
In my first playthrough the worst mistake the Emperor ever made was making me ugly. You want to be an ilithid? Fine, be one. You want me to kill every gith in Faerun? I'll do it if I can stop the Absolute. But turning me ugly? Brother never stood a chance with me after that. It was war.
Oh, I feel your anger. I couldn't resist a tadpole twice when I was playing on Honor (i.e. even if I wanted to reload, I couldn't). And both times it was when I had the advantage, a lot of buffs, and 4 inspiration. So both times I rolled 10 dices and couldn't get the result I need. Emperor is an asshole
i am thoroughly enjoying your videos mapo! i hope you love baldur's gate & will go back to play the other games, I haven't yet but i have heard the quality is also amazing !
Hey btw, I'm heavily against reloading but this situation you have found yourself in, I can see how having your character look like that can make your experience worse, I mean I can barely stand looking at your character! I hope you reload honestly.
Poor Mapo, I was sooo rooting for a good dice roll. The same happened in my first playthrough. Your choices really do matter in this game. I laughed so much about your frustration with it though. 😂
I feel this so much, I too get invested in my characters appearance as part of the immersion. Honestly, I don't think anyone would judge you for enrolling. That said, there is a mod that gets rid of the black so you only have the scarring, and a mod that gets rid of it all together. I really suggest it as that is a cosmetic change that does not change the story but will make you enjoy your character more!
the roll getting lower each time you tried to [redacted] is hilariously appropriate for the situation. ETA: also, i admit i did change my character's appearance to make [redacted2] blend in better with their face.
Yeah, what can I say? Having party members that can alter the dice rolls is a blessing 😅. Not having them at crucial points that you never know when they might occur can give you interesting results. That said I don't think anyone else will notice that change in Monk Mapo's face. I hope you are fine with that facial change Mapo 😢. I don't know about others, but this is one place where if you want to save scum, I will not judge you at all. Also you can click on Shadowheart's "Divine Intervention" to see what it entails (it is not a one click thing!).
i thankfully passed my first roll ever on that my dark urge playthrough i reloaded LOL i'll do it one of these days and keep it but i was romancing astarion both times which him and lae'zel aren't as enthused about it
On my Durge run not only I slurped as many tadpoles as possible in the game, and then I convinced everyone to take astral tadpole and get those +3 tadpoles, and everyone was on their dark path (well, one of them didn't need convincing and was literally "let's do this" iykyk)
Haha @ hill giant Scratch and an all round fun episode. This has been a safe comment, like and subscribe, winky. Edit: What an incredibly variable game. Played it twice, being as different as I could (hello Mr Urge), and neither playthrough was really similar to this one. What a fucking game.
Failing that dice roll was unfortunate lol, but im glad you're sticking to your rule of no reloading, it makes for a better playthrough in my opinion. I was so conflicted during the emperor and orpheus scene, but i managed to make the roll during my first playthrough
It's such a great episode. Wonder if that good morality will get you in trouble with the next part of the game.. You are such a good little man 😂 Sad that you got shriveled.
Embrace the D&D roleplay experience. I mean, you started this whole adventure because you've been infected by a tadpole. It's not like you were not on your sure way to becomeing an illithid. But you decided to consume more...decisions have consequences. No tadpoles, no Wisdom check. The more you consumed, the higher the DC. It gives amazing bonuses, most players would be trilled about those 🤣🤣 It's pretty cool storywise too. Maybe you've always been more of an anti-hero. A tortured adventurer. A super-hero sacrificing himself to help people. On my 1st playthrough I made a human ex-soldier (Fighter lvl10), PTSD from the war (Barbarian lvl1) in search of redemption (Paladin lvl1). I also ate some tadpoles and had to face the consequences of being vulnerable to the astral-tadpole at that part of the story.
He tried to resist 🤣 but the tentacle animes he read your dark web history and found you wanting He got my pld as well cuz i needed those illithid range powers before i knew about cross classing
I liked your reaction to the illithid facial changes at the end, transformed into a boiled potato xD. I don't really like how they look on 99% of the races, but I think the new look actually looks pretty rad on a dragonborn character
first he was short, then dragon singed all hair roots on his dome and made him bald, and now, to that, we add new ugly veiny mug. Can't catch a break in faerun
Wow, that tadpole thing was strange for me. I’ve been through two full playthroughs so far and when I haven’t passed that wisdom check ones, I still had a choice oO it was something like “oh, okay, but keep this astral tadpole with you in case you change your mind”. So it’s mindblowing for me that you had no choice here. And also it wasn’t that hard to resist for me although I used illithid powers much more than you, I’ve covered most part of my brain, but decided I don’t want to go further. It’s just unfair that you didn’t really use that powers and couldn’t resist>< P.S. actually first thing I wanted to comment on was this dialog with Astarion. Finally, one of my favourite lines “pure shit” - what a delivery! I’m not a native English speaker, so it’s hard for me to appreciate all the beautiful words in these lines(I had pretty good subtitles in my language though), but anyway I see how gorgeous is this text, gods I do appreciate the writers for this masterpiece and of course Neil for his talent. Also it would be just peeeeerfect for me to see you in the next playthrough playing Dark Urge and romancing Astarion. Redeeming together or go dark together with him while being Durge this is something. Me personally - I don’t have enough guts to go full evil, and also don’t want to drag Astarion into this evil path. But I understand the appeal.
if you are already using tadpoles, you might as well take the astral one, for bare minimum the free fly ability... never need to jump again. Love talking all companions into using it and getting everyone with fly.
seeing mapo sad and salty about becoming ugly, while everyone praises shadowheart was pure comedy
02:33:40 "Yeah she looks great 🙄 Yup she looks awesome 💩 She looks really great yeah 😭"
If I had a nickel for every time Mapo went to check if he missed anything on a BG3 map before moving to another region, only to run into a fight with a bunch of kuo-toa, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice 😂
Watch it happen a third time
😂😂😂
I've never been more impressed with your dedication to not save scumming
I love playing this way first time but if it's a bug or game issue only reason I would reload get some pretty interesting stories 😁
"while you went to the barber last night I was getting turned into a ballsack." My favorite line from this playthrough so far lol

Mapo: Eating Tadpoles - carrying literally dozens of them with him.
Also Mapo: "I dont wanna become a Mindflayer!" XD
Funnily enough this is completly diffrent from my playthrough, since my Dark Urge Paladin was absolutly against doing anything with the Tadpoles - so while I had literally no Ilithid Powers (I didnt even use the Persuasion thing, since I was so afraid of it), I didnt even had to do this wisdom save, and could just say no to the emperor at this point :D
This is the funniest episode of the playthrough so far
I do love how everyone always makes their Guardian hot. It's the ultimate catfish. XD

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my current favorite playthrough.
2:00:57 the reason this wisdom check came up is because you have absorbed tadpoles.
If you never absorb any, there is no roll check and you can just flat out tell the emperor No!
I discovered this after a few playthroughs. Very cool details in this game
I once eaten a few and couldn't say no... But then I got the option to destroy the tadpole Emperor gave us, he was mad lmao
02:05:20 "They're looking at me like I'm a monster 😭" What a shocking twist! !!
LMAO that mishap with Scratch and the strength elixir had me in stitches 🤣
"We just can't see eye to eye, and it's not because of the height-difference" Omg, I laughed way too hard at that 😂😂 and agreed about Neil, he's so fantastic. It was a true delight to meet him as well 😊
Lol, you had me rolling with your self commentaries on your looks!
So yeah, this is the consequence of using Illithid abilities. That hard-as-balls check would not be there if you had resisted them.
I can't believe Mapocolops accepted the evolution just like that. He was supposed to get rid of the tadpole, not embrace its powers. Shadowheart looks stunning, though.
ill be honest, i would have 100% reloaded that wisdom check while strongly opposing any reloads

"karlach will still love me even when I'm a testicle" had me rolling 🤣
This is why Karlach is best girl.
I knew Mapo’s brain would explode from the emperor reveal lmao

What a great episode! 😄
i am thoroughly enjoying your videos mapo! i hope you love baldur's gate & will go back to play the other games, I haven't yet but i have heard the quality is also amazing !
After using the astral tadpole, you can use the rest of the tadpoles and get the full power. ;)
Seems like The Emperor has never seen one of these "No means No" ad campaigns. Shame on him.
Oh man… I really have to commend you for not reloading a save… a stronger will than most of us… 😭
ah yes, the consequences of my actions episode xD
the roll getting lower each time you tried to [redacted] is hilariously appropriate for the situation. ETA: also, i admit i did change my character's appearance to make [redacted2] blend in better with their face.
"Dope monk shit" said someone famous.
For this specific roll, if you actually have to roll, party members can't help
i thankfully passed my first roll ever on that
my dark urge playthrough i reloaded LOL
i'll do it one of these days and keep it but i was romancing astarion both times which him and lae'zel aren't as enthused about it
On my Durge run not only I slurped as many tadpoles as possible in the game, and then I convinced everyone to take astral tadpole and get those +3 tadpoles, and everyone was on their dark path (well, one of them didn't need convincing and was literally "let's do this" iykyk)
Mapo...You're immune to poison!!
Sorry that you failed that DC 21, it was indeed so high because you consumed lots of tadpoles
Veiny, purple, throbbing co .... comedy, I mean it's pure comedy
It gives amazing bonuses, most players would be trilled about those 🤣🤣
It's pretty cool storywise too.
I like to take an extra long rest at the end of Act 2 to avoid Shadowheart's makeover overriding companion reactions to the Emperor
You can actually make a build of jumping on people from high ground. You have to make an eagle aspect barbarian for that.
or a druid and just turn into an owl bear
I'm gonna miss that cute lil gnome face 😢
He tried to resist 🤣 but the tentacle animes he read your dark web history and found you wanting
He got my pld as well cuz i needed those illithid range powers before i knew about cross classing
I’m so happy you are getting to play with the Illithid powers, might as well lean into it now 2:05:30
I liked your reaction to the illithid facial changes at the end, transformed into a boiled potato xD.
It’s just unfair that you didn’t really use that powers and couldn’t resist><
P.S. actually first thing I wanted to comment on was this dialog with Astarion.
