    This right here is why I can't go for like a month without washing my hair. Every 2 weeks my scalp starts screaming! It's sore, itchy and even bleeds when I scratch. I have to wash it, protective styles can't last on my head. I don't understand people who say they've had crochet/weave for like 3 months how????

      Girl! Same. The longest I went with a style like box braids is 3 weeks, but I had to wash it at the end of week 2. 😅 I have a coworker who's had her hair in faux locs for almost 3 months now, my scalp itches just thinking about it. 😂

      Some ppl produce more sebun more excessively and quicky than others...especially if theu are a scalp sweater. I know my mom amd daughter both sweat in their heads and my child head will get a certain smell that i know it producing more sweat. Its crazy the signs the body will gives us.

    A sore scalp can also happen due to the hair follicle being pulled in an unnatural direction by tension on the hair. Hair naturally lays flat due to gravity, when the hair is pulled tightly up and into a ponytail it bends the follicle from facing down to then facing up, left/right etc. Mix this with dirtier hair and the pain is far more noticeable as the dirt helps to solidify the follicle into it's unnatural position.

    What about sore scalp only in certain spots but not from dirty hair? Like what about super tender areas and the hair thins out in those spots? It often feels better after massages! 😌😌😌

      Maybe those are the sections where you put a bun or braid that was too tight, or where you brushed your hair with too much force. Just leave that section be for a while and it should return to normal levels of sensitivity. When I was little my mom used to brush my hair every day to sort out tangles but she did it with so much force that a part of my scalp would hurt for years if touched...I started dealing with my hair myself and it turned to normal overtime. But it was a long process.

      That sounds like scalp inflammation. I would go to a professional and immediately start antiinflammatory diet because it's internal. I also had a similar experience and invested in red light therapies which cured the sore feeling. Now doing weekly washes and daily massages to gain back my density

    I get that when there's too much tension and when my scalp is dirty. I happen to have dreadlocks now and have been very careful regarding what I put in my hair since certain things simply don't wash out. I had excessive sebum production for a while, and my scalp would be sore occasionally because of it, but at this point I haven't had scalp soreness in a long time. I think I'm happy with my decision to lock my hair, although I may have issues with them sometimes.

    This is so helpful. This happens to me quite often, especially with crochet styles. I'm seeing now that I have to wash my hair once a week or maybe every other week. I grew up under the narrative that "dirty hair" makes your hair grow 🤦🏾‍♀️

    Yeah, I think it choked my hair out because when I finally washed and condition, I had a lot of hair loss but going to get into a better hair hygiene routine. When I had a relaxer it was no problem washing and I had to go thru more step then but with natural hair it so easy to neglect.

    I know that each hair has its own particularities, but I feel genuinely curious when I see girls who can hold a braided style for like 2 months… I have a sensitive scalp and can’t barely stand the itchiness and soreness. I remember when I used to flat iron my hair every week and by the 5th day I was desperate and just dreaming with my washing day. Back in those days nothing felt better than a fresh and clean scalp! Now I’m testing tea tree and rosemary essential oil mix on my scalp and seeing if the tea tree can make my hair less susceptible to an infection…

    Yes so true actually hahah, my scalp felt really sore last week for the first time ever and when I washed my scalp with water and scalp massager so much sebum came out (I've never had that much sebum on my head) and since then my scalp feels great again! So you don't even need shampoo, just a scalp massager will get rid of the buildup (use it on a wet scalp for optimal results)

  • @Squidwardsangryface
    @Squidwardsangryface Год назад +4

    Yeah, that's why I have to wash my hair with clarifying shampoo every week. My scalp gets really mad if I wait more than a week and a half. That's why I can't do sowins and those long lasting hairstyles too often. I only do than once every could of years or so. 😂. If I do them, I have to use the dry shampoo, after one week and a half, and mix sulfur 8 pomade with water into a spray bottle and spray my scalp every two days. My scalp still gets itchy, but it doesn't feel sore. 😊

    I don't think my scalp hurts when it's dirty, but it hurts when I tie it up. I don't know why it's like my hair itself hurts and it's sore for awhile and then it goes away if I don't tie my hair. I don't know why but it's so annoying and painful. Can someone tell me is there anything I can do? Maybe I just have a sensitive scalp?

  • @ebonywatson9939

    I think I’m not supposed to put oils on my scalp. My scalp is fine after wash day then it gets itchy if I add oil’s because my scalp is oily enough on its own. I noticed that my scalp is still oily after I wash it even after a clarifying shampoo.
