At last I have found a video that explains very well how to clean a replace a carburettor.
It's so good to know what to do,instead of taking your mower to a repair shop.
Many Thanks
Derek OAP Westcliff on sea Essex
Derek Wilson No problem glad I could help thanks for watching
Well done lad. Well appreciated!
Thanks for this advise- gave me confidence to do my own investigations - found a broken Governor Spring - instead of c£100, cost me £3!
Somebody make this part of a TV show :)
One of the best videos thanks .. The important thing the way you use the camera and show all the parts , great thank you .
G T Thanks !
Watched several of your videos now this week. Just to say thanks for sharing all the info that you have done. A great source of tips. Originally discovered your videos amongst many others but this is such a great source you almost need a directory. Thanks again.
I have also found that these engines are very hard to start if the spark plug gap is too big. It can be very misleading because you have checked everything and you have a spark but it won't start. They like a tiny gap so if all else fails, try the plug gap and (or) a new plug.
I've been battering one of these mowers since 2007 and just got this carb problem now, so not a bad mower at all, just make sure handle bars are tight
YU TOC TU MACI PLIZ SARAP AND UARKING!!!!!
Had mine since 2007, never a problem until yesterday. Fired up first pull as usual but wouldn't run or start again for a few minutes , then would do exactly the same thing. Start but didn't run. Pulled cord until I sweated, checked the plug, the original, and it was dry so I deduced a fuel problem. Took the carb off today and the float chamber was choked up with clots of crap. Blew it all out with an air line, didn't see the need for much more than that, re assemble and off we go. Now starts and runs perfect, hot or cold. Take a picture of the linkage before you remove the carb. I never, and it was a shite to sort out! Cheap Chinese crap for sure, but after years of use it still works nice. Mine is badged up as a "lawn king". Purchased from eBay as a factory rebuild for about £125. Have had loads of electric mowers in the past that have lasted just a couple of seasons. I even use this one to shred pruning from the shrubs, no problem. Just keep the blade sharp!
Thanks for this video :D After watching this i removed and cleaned out the carb on my mower and it is back to working order again ! Oh and good tip about taking photos, i did that and needed them after too :)
Brilliant. Cheers
Many thanks great help.
Hi Mower Man, Just another update on my HP474 rv40 checked both flywheel keys all look good, changed spark plug again, even changed the spark coil and a carburettor off a mower with the same engine and still she hunts and runs at a lower speed, it is obviously something to do with the engine its self is there something else I can check
Awesome just saved me 30 quid.
What a brilliant video! You're an absolute star! Thanks very much! Where 's the donation button?
I sussed out how to put the clips on the cab of my mountfield RV150...but now the plastic flapper paddle arm which one of the clips fits on has broken. I know its not called a flapper lol...What is the name of it so I can sore a new one? X
Thanks a lot cheers
I have a Lawn King with the mountfield engine and the same carb, just cleaned and rebuild it today and it worked ok, but has always had an issue governing the speed at full throttle. On mine the governor is internal in the engine and operates a long link and is held toward the carb with a weaker spring, much like yours. I attempted to set the governor after getting it going but it really makes no difference, it either hunts or over revs badly. I would be interested if the external Briggs and Stratton vane type regulator would fit...
my 1 of these leaks oil from the bit at the front i think my gasket needs replacing
Many thanka for the video, I have one of these, not sure if you can advise, the pully cord is not catching so pulls straight out, thus not starting the engine, is it an easy fix? Thanks
Hi there thanks for all the videos been really interesting, looks like I've just missed out on the free upload of your dvd as I can't find it on your website. Im an IT Consultant great with website building, business portfolios but no idea about engines of any kind, you have shown in a simple to understand manner, if there is anything I can help you with to ease a free upload please message me. Keep up with the videos!
Hi mower man, any other tips for removing the jet? Tried your Allen key too but can't get it out. Thanks
Fantastic void and extremely helpful. However, when checking out the carburetor the float was full of fuel is this right? The engine runs fine?
No. The float should be full of air. If you dip float in some hot water and see bubbles the float is cracked. Did you mean the float bowl?
hi i wonder if you can help me,ive got the same model lawnmower and it starts up but then go,s dead ive put a new spark plug on but it still does the same thing starts up then go,s dead i was wondering if you could give me some advice on what is wrong thanks...paddy
My Mountfield SP185, has a Briggs & Stratton engine, it hunts, backfires and when mowing, the engine revs up and down. No throttle control - its all automatic, can I adjust the mixture or throttle speed? The mower is only 10 months old. Mountfield expect me to take it to a service agent, that is very difficult for me. Any advice please.
You said check the gaskets (plural) before you fit the carb back on- mine didn't have a gadget between the carb and the body of the engine, there was only a gasket between the carb and the air filter assembly - is that right ??
There will be a o ring
I don't appear to have the black thing on the gouvner
hi mower man thanks for the video, i've cleaned the carb on my Rv 150 and reassembled it and tried to pull start it, it was really tight and after a couple of pulls I seen oil coming out of the carb, what have i done wrong?
Desmond Johnstone If it's leaking back out it's probably because the needle is sticking in the carburettor.
Thanks for the quick reply Mower Man, but you realise I'm talking about oil not petrol ?
Do any of your videos cover the sv150 engine
Roys channel Hi yes have a look at my channel
I've just serviced an RV150 and carb. Starts OK but revs cycle except on choke. It was running OK before I started. Any ideas? thanks!
This is now solved. I didn't service the carb so carefully first time around because there was a rust flake stuck in the main jet.
Is rv150 same as sv150? Any differences?
Pedro Stanjel not that ive notices
I have a Mountfield hp474 / RV40 150cc she starts to hunt after about 5 mins of running and if I turn the revs down on the lever she want s to stall also the pull cord has gone a little harder to pull. Seen a lot of these on Ebay are they not a good engine.
Craig M Hi. no they are poor unfortunately check the blade is on the blade adapter correctly (remove spark plug first)
Yeah blade is on correctly, forgot to mention the pull cord has sometimes snapped back fast as if it is back firing. had new plug/filter/oil still the same
Craig M soundscapes very much like one of the two flywheel keys are damaged check on my vids
Checked the top one at the flywheel on the shaft and all is good, is there another somewhere
Craig M yes pull the blade and blade holder off check one at bottom
mountfield empress 16sp have you got any pics where all cables go on carb and the white wire off the coil the hook thing on end and stuff on metal bit that fastends on to carb got it in bits HLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP
I don't spear to ha
cheap chinese crap. those engines are a pain. the air filter base is weak and can be hard to seal properly i have had to double up gaskets at times. the air vane breaks easily but what i do with that is replace it with a briggs one(unless it is a warranty job) they are far better quality and exactly the same as a mountfield. in fact a lot of parts can be changed with briggs parts.
gotta love cheap lawn mowers lol
