congratulations lina!! definitely with you on feeling all those weird emotions about not being a student anymore after having spent a huge portion of your life as one, but im positive you'll excel in whatever path you decide to take after this in the "real" world! my best wishes are with you 💙
Definitely jealous that you have all these videos to look back on and remember your time on campus. I stumbled upon one of your videos when feeling super nostalgic of my time at UBC - thanks for sharing your experience and reminding me of some amazing memories. Best of luck in your next adventure!
so grateful that I decided to make them in the first place - I wish I had some from earlier years but for the longest time I didn't really feel like vlogging day to day life would be interesting. Happy I turned that around later on. Thank you so much for watching them, I guess now I'll also be nostalgic haha!
@@lina.lecompte I would love to even have some videos of me studying with my friends in the library as boring as that sounds. That's not to say that life post-graduation won't be awesome, lots to look forward to!
So i started to watch a bunch of your vids. Particularly the ones revolving around UBC. First off your videos are entertaining. But when you were a student. Did you get a chance to eat at many of the UBC run dining options. Like say Open Kitchen, Mercante, harvest, Gather, Feast. Etc if so did you enjoy the food options. Quality etc.
thanks for watching! glad you liked them! I ate at like 90% of the places that you mentioned! The food is okay, nothing incredibly, and a little bit overpriced in my opinion, but there's definitely some good options sometimes!
@@lina.lecompte ah good to know. I ask this because I cook for a living. And have been working/cooking at UBC okanagan campus. (Well when we had people to cook for before covid-19 hit) And i am strongly considering transferring to the Vancouver campus. I did hear from students that the food was overpriced. Not sure what the food is like at Vancouver. But I like to think we were putting up some good food at okanagan campus. Then again we served alot less students. And less options.
It totally depends on your interests! But I took Film Studies (I think FIST100?) and it was basically like movie club - we'd watch movies and then discuss what worked about them! I also liked some creative writing classes (CRWR) and they're pretty great for your GPA if that's something that matters to you. And I also took some visual arts classes which I personally really enjoyed :) I guess you can see most of them are kind of the artsy-er route - so just think of things that personally interest you or also look through threads on reddit.com/r/UBC that mention good electives!
hey there, I'm currently going for my masters of kin at UBC next year. Just wanted to pick your brain and ask whats the best studio room to live in on campus. Like to be close to a gym, the beach and close to bar/coffee shop. Thanks
Hi! Most of the on campus residences are fairly close to most of the things you want! But Gage Apartments (studio), are the ones that are the closest to a gym, bar and coffee shop, but a little further away from the beach (although it's still in walking distance). Ponderosa Commons also has great studios and they're closer to the beach, but a little further from the gym/on campus bar (again within walking distance though - like 5-10 minute walk I'd say). You can also ask around on reddit.com/r/UBC to see if people have different advice or if you want to pick off-campus residences instead!
Aaron Gos oh yes! Forgot about Brock Commons that’s practically in the same location as Gage Apartments - so same thing applies. If u wanna see the actual apartments I have a tour of both Gage studio and Ponderosa studio on my channel in the “university playlist”
Congrats!! I’m majoring in psychology and I was considering whether or not I should minor in business (like you) could you give me your perspective on that?
Hi! that's awesome! I really liked majoring in business - it was great because none of the classes you take are actually with Sauder students, it's with people from other non-business faculties also taking the major. So that was good for me because I felt like I wasn't out of place or didn't know as much as my classmates etc. For the most part the classes were good - although it does feel like sometimes they place not-so-great professors in the minor program instead of for the people majoring in commerce.... so that was a bit of a bummer sometimes. I thought it was good to have the minor because then I had more of a direction when picking courses - otherwise I feel like it would've been almost too many electives. And I thought it was a good combination to pair psych with business :)
@@lina.lecompte Would you recommend someone to minor in commerce if they still wasn't sure which career path they want to take? or do you think this minor would expand your employability in the future?
@@steph5306 if you have no real interest in commerce - I probably wouldn't do it. But you do have to take specific courses in first year to be able to apply to the minor in commerce, so you'd have to pick before you register for first year otherwise you can't apply to the program later on I don't believe. As for employability, I believe it's an asset, but not sure by how much it would expand it.
This is the cutest video ever. Serious nostalgia right now. Proud as hell of you, as always. Can’t wait to hug ya in person
