Ive noticed that the mindset went to "bigger is better". Problem with that is, some people went WAY TOO big. My last 2 biggest bass, came on 6" senko, not a giant swim bait.
I can totally relate with the comment catching the fish is a bonus. I get a rush from accurately hitting that spot on the spot and the suspense of waiting for that thump
thank you! two different applications there. the paddle tail such as the weedless varieties like the working class zero battles shad have a beast hook. single weighted hook that will require a strong hookset and not much stretch in the line for sensitivity of bite detection and for penetration of the hook. For that reason we prefer fluorocarbon in 25 lb test. I like the feel of the 20 but once you get a backlash it will kink and then break on a cast, or hookset, or pulling through structure. Too risky so I bumped up to 25 and have not had those issues. Now, for the rat we have a set of treble hooks. whenever I see trebles I revert to basics: you will need stretch to keep hooks pinned and not rip the treble out of the fish from the smaller hook gap. Also the fish will hit these baits with more force as they are coming up to the surface, or sub surface when cranked down, with a rolling action as they head back down the water column. I want stretch to once again absorb that impact of the fish on the treble. Keep a lot of the same basics of conventional fishing in the big baits, the paddle tails are much like a deep jig bite and the rat is like a jerkbait or topwater bait. These fundamentals also hold true for rod selection, faster taper for the single hooked baits and a parabolic action for the hard baits. Low Down Custom Rods offers both of these features in their rod lineup.
@@holyroller2445 For soft baits the shimano conquest 400 or cheaper version is the Cardiff 400 both in 5:1 ratios. for hard baits go with at least a 6:1 ratio in a shimano tranx 300 or daiwa tatula hd is a very good reel.
@@mannycheeoutdoors sir, After looking at your recommendations I decided to go with the Diawa tatula HD. What do you recommend for a rod for this real. I would also like to cast further out on lighter baits if possible. Will a 8' rod be OK? What brand do you recommend for reasonable prices. Thanks and merry Christmas
learning a little about when and where to use swimbaits made for a good video. Watching your blue heeler was an added bonus. I have a 6 year old and I am pretty sure she has never stopped moving just like yours. Wonderful dogs! thanks for the video!
Bought a bait from you last week and just found your show this week. The show is awesome!! Way to kill it on the Rat and Battle Shad! Got a New England Chunk this morning.
Just saw Manny today at Canyon Lake. Cruised passed him on my kayak and said hi but i think he had clients with him so i didnt want to take up his time. Damn i want to meet this dude. He slays the Salt River Chain Lakes
Killer video Manny! Gotta pic up a few.

@@mannycheeoutdoors wow thanks. Been thinking about beefing up to swim bait set up. What do you recommend regarding baitcaster and rod to start. Tia

When you coming back to the Colorado river
What knot do you use when tieing to big baits?
Tbrezniak doubled uni is my favorite!
isn't a double uni for connecting main line to leader? Not a main line to a bait?
