Susan David has a doctorate in psychology and is a professor at Harvard Medical School. For her the key is so-called 'Emotional Agility': "Being emotionally agile means learning to live with our emotions, thoughts and memories in a healthy way. Being, moreover, consistent with our values," she explains.

📝 Notes - Susan david psychologist
Emotional agility is about showing up to emotions. If we hold them back they can come back stronger. When we hide our emotions it amplifies what we are hiding. Bottling emotions: sitting on emotions. Those who have come from family background which does not encourage rage or sadness are not as good at emotional agility. If we unblock the emotions we could develop anxiety or depression and this can impact on our problem solving skills and relationships. Brooding emotions: when brooding it can increase length of depression, impact on emotions. Emotions have an evolutionary purpose: If not fearful we cannot protect ourselves. “Only dead people don’t feel emotions”
