    Anybody who is attempting this repair on a washing machine that is years old should be aware that you're going to run into pieces that are rusted together and are not going to want to come apart as easily as shown on this video. I used to be a contractor and I'm pretty good at DIY projects. I did this repair on a 20 plus-year-old washer. I nearly gave up. One key is having the correct tool to get that reverse threaded nut off. Also, have plenty of WD-40 and 80 grit sandpaper around

    For those that are having trouble removing the old tub bushings. I was able to take the new bushing and find a socket slightly smaller and place a socket extension in the socket and use a hammer to tap on the extension and drive out the old bushing. I also recommend ordering the bushing, tub seal and split bushing. As I broke the split bushing and the seal had to be replaced along with the tub bushing. I also ordered the nut wrench as it was on $10.

    Thanks for the video; forewarned is forearmed. The washer is a poor design by GE (my employer, by the way). In a good design, a part that commonly fails is inexpensive and easy to replace. Parts that are a pain to replace should be of high quality, making their failure rare.

    I wish my coupler came off that easy. I ended up having to break it off with a screwdriver and buy a new one.

    9:38 never understood the overflow tube. What good is it if it is not connected to anything? End of the day it overflows on the floor whether you have the tube or not.

    • @thadthompson2264
      @thadthompson2264 2 года назад

      without the overflow tube, the water would just flow over the top of the tub, and onto the electrical connections and electric motor - the tube directs overflow to the back corner of the machine, preventing that electrical hazard.

      Is it part number AP5645738 that you are looking for? Below is the link to that part so you can look at it.

      i dont think its the tub seal(that would cause water to leak past the tub into the bottom right?)i think its the upper shaft seal (right under the splines for the agitator)
