  • Hi guys, today I show you a watch that you don't see every day. A beautiful Zodiac Kingline 36000 certified chronometer, watch from the late 60s, 32mm steel case with an absolutely original design for the time and original Zodiac crown. I bought the watch for my collection, it arrived in working order and I never thought I'd find so much rust inside. Be careful when buying watches on the Internet, you never know what you will find!! Fortunately I managed to make it work decently even if in the future I absolutely want to replace the mainspring which is sold with the complete barrel, an extremely rare watch part to find, currently if it is found it is sold by the weight of diamonds!!!
I hope you like my work.

Now that was ingenious with that little index. Finding a plastic pen lying around the house. Clever!
Nice work. That one took some finesse. Good work!
One of those "sealed mainspring" deals, huh?. Automatic Bulovas from the 50s and 60s had those. I ran into one that was particularly dirty, so I figured the barrel had to be a mess inside too, so I popped the lid off anyway. Fortunately, it was made like any other barrel and really wasn't sealed.
As suspected, it was a gunked-up mess inside. I defied the warning to "Do Not Open", and since it was a watch I picked up off of eBay as a "fix or repair", I went ahead and took the spring out, cleaned, oiled, wound it up, and put it back in like a normal watch.
Frankly, this was a silly design idea. You know they're going to become a gunked up mess eventually. Like those idiotic redesigned Toyota oil filters. Why redesign an oil filter?. DUH!🤪🤪

Obviously I tried to open it but nothing to do, I only deformed the back of the barrel. I also thought it could be opened like for example the longines caliber l 890.1 where it is written not to open but in reality it is possible to open it and lubricate the mainspring. In this case the entire barrel must be replaced, price €210......🤝

Ouch, that's a lot for the barrel.

Your work is fantastic! Can you tell how close to "chronometer" standard of keeping time did you manage to bring this movement?

At minute 32.28 you can see the test performed on the timegrapher, the watch is within the cosc parameters (+/-3 sec/Day)

Hi. What solution did you use to help you with the rust? Vinegar? Thanks

You’ve got two kidneys. If you really cared about the watch you’d have done it. 😅
