    Obviously one problem with this metric is that it assesses quantity first and quality a distant second, thus all time challenge liabilities like EoE Keith and J'Tia don't register anywhere near the bottom. Even Jeff Varner who consistently proved to be a challenge liability in all his 3 appearances isn't at the bottom almost solely because of Kucha's challenge wins in Australian Outback that he played hardly any positive role in.

    • @cjtrules1
      @cjtrules1 Год назад +25

      Quantity vs quality is literally quantitative v qualitative data. When comparing hundreds of players in tons of different circumstances you need to look at as much quantitative data as possible to make it as fair as possible. AKA looking at the numbers. Quality is extremely subjective and is hard to compare.

Parvati and Michele are top 20 and if you are talking about team challenges Michele will be ranked higher because her team never lost in her winning season. Ozzy is number 1 and Boston Rob although not the most athletic player is sort of a jack of all trades and deserves the 3rd spot.

    • @raistarithon

      This system is awful,
      It should also account for where they finish in individual immunities, and the strength of the field.
      There's probably not enough data for the majority of players, but strength of tribe members should also be calculated in. Some strong palyerd are just screwed by circumstance (j'tia)

    • @MariaThePotterNut
      @MariaThePotterNut Год назад +3

      How do you put data to quantify a good social game though? Because big moves, challenge wins, idol plays, thats not the only way to win, and those are usually things that are needed as your game goes wrong. Theres a lot of power in just being a likable person, or useful around camp, things that lead to people not voting to get you out , and having good opinions of you when it comes to final tribal. There's also power in knowing who's unlikable and using them to shield your own game.

    • @cjtrules1
      @cjtrules1 Год назад +2

      Ranking winners will always be subjective sense each season is so different from all the others. The similarities are mostly if not all quantitative data like immunity wins, votes against, advantages found. I'd argue the social game is way more important than the physical game so how do you judge that fairly?

      @Maddie_flamingo246 Год назад +1

      I’ve actually tried to do this (with a very simplified set of data) and it was kind of interesting. Like a ‘who played the best game on paper’ kind of thing. My results didn’t necessarily reflect my personal rankings BUT like you said, it was definitely fun to put it together and see. I didn’t include challenge data which, funnily enough, put Natalie white fairly high. Anyway, I agree with you, it’s a fun idea ☺️

  • @chrisgreco472
    @chrisgreco472 Год назад +7

    There should be 3 statistics that I think would result in a more accurate war ranking:
    1) does a tribe do better or worse after they vote a person out?
    2) related to this is the effect of injury. How much does injury or medivac to a given player affect the tribe's ability to win going forward?
    3) does a tribe sitting you out of a challenge make them perform better?
    In each episode's tribal challenges is an opportunity to put two players head to head for a better war score: the player most recently voted out vs any new sit outs. Theoretically, the player recently voted out or sat out of a tribe that loses a challenge should have a higher war than player recently voted out of or sitting out on a winning tribe because their absence more negatively affected their tribe than the other contestants in a similar situation.
    Edited to clarify final point.

  • @Laughhouse2go
    @Laughhouse2go 6 месяцев назад +1

    I've come back to this video a few times, it's really fascinating. I wanted to write down a few other potential weights that come to mind.
    The first one is Season strength, which can be calculated by looking at the comparative performance of all returning players, as long as a Season has at least one, the cast's relative strength can be inferred to some extent, obviously if multiple returnees are there, it increases the confidence.
    The others are more tedious but would essentially go off of a similar logic to awarding partial credit for near wins. Take off an equivalent penalty for particular bad performances (eg the first to drop in an individual challenge, or the furthest behind at completing the tasks). The point would be to decrease the score for someone who demonstrated the greatest inability to dominate a challenge.
    Finally another would be a bit trickier, but essentially giving the same partial credit or penalty for individuals in team challenges as well, but only for individuals who either gave their team a decisive advantage or decisive disadvantage. Since that one has the biggest likelihood of turning too subjective, I think it could be controlled by requiring all of the following components: clear over/underperformance at a decisive (ie reason for team winning or losing) portion of the challenge, where the person over/undeperformed relative to their team AND the other team's members as well. Examples of overperforming would be Jonathan in the aforementioned clips, and for underperformance Sonja in the first ever Immunity challenge. The point for this credit or penalty in the first place would be to account for the player's ability or inability to contribute to a team challenge success.

    I really enjoyed this video! While I was watching, I got really curious if the factors below would have an effect on their ranking.
    1. 2-tribe vs 3-tribe seasons
    2. Old era vs New era season
    3. Dividing each challenge, whether team or individual, to 3 categories like physical games, mental or puzzle-related games, and both physical & puzzle games. And then having these with equal weights.
    4. Not having individual challenges holding more weight than team-based but considering item 3 instead.
    5. One-season vs multiple-season players. Do you think there's a bit of an unfair advantage (or disadvantage) for returning players? I'm curious if Cirie from her first season is actually better than her 2nd or 3rd.
    6. Throwing off games is also an interesting factor
    7. Seasons like Redemption Island or Edge of Extinction are a bit tricky since there's additional challenges for "eliminated" players
    8. Number of players left in the game. Chances of winning are higher when the number dwindles down.
    I was also surprised that Mookie ranked last in all these. I wonder if the outcome changes if the "weighting" of these factors is considered.

    This is super interesting and it could never be perfect but by far the biggest issue with the methodology is counting Redemption Island wins in the individual challenge results - they should definitely not count in the same way as someone winning a challenge with 11-12 players in. Redemption Island players get unfairly pushed to the top if they do well there.

If you spend all reason on Redemption, you're technically competing in Individual Challenges, but you only have 1 competitor, so you should expect a 50% win rate, not 12%. Same thing with normal individual challenges as you get closer to the end. Shouldn't that be taken into account?

    The third part :
    2 : Teheiura (2011, 2012, 2014, 2020, 2021) with 16,48 / Team : -1,45 (15/35 with 2 sits-out) / Individual : 13,46 (17/51 with 12 near-wins)
    Before presenting this guy, i must introduce him as a player : he’s the incarnation of the downfall.
    2011 : the hero, the lovable man, made his way to the final which he lost, gave us the best challenge of KL as the tension was extraordinary (of course ended up him vs Martin).
    2012 : was moving strong in his alliance only to be blindsided by his allies (ironically one of them is the first of this rank).
    2014 : was completely broke down again by an ally thus creating the perfect alibi to get rid of him.
    2020 : was voted out with 2 idols in his pocket and he knew he was in danger.
    2021 : was removed from the game due to cheating.
    Compared to SV, i’d say he’s the french JT.
    About the main subject, Tehe is outstanding everywhere (surely the king of agility) but terribly sucks in physical challenges.
    He had a tv worth watching rivalry in 2011 with Martin and had the biggest rivalry in suspens with the first of this list.
    Surprinsingly though, he wasn’t a major key for his many teams aside from 2011.
    Oh and also, that’s something to notice. Him, and 4 others names of the top 12 were in their early 40’s for their last season and were still all winning machines.
    1 : Claude (2010, 2012, 2020, 2021) with 26,12/ Team : 2,37 (16/29 with 4 sits-out) / Individual : 18,78 (23/58 with 13 near-wins)
    I think for starting, the score speaks for itself. He’s a beast, a monster, every adjective like that …
    When i watched your video, i knew that if somebody could come close to Ozzy, it would be Claude but i had no idea how much higher his score was gonna be. And what’s more even crazier, his 4 sits-outs were when his team won. That means that with him, obviously they would have still won, Claude would be even higher, that’s insane.
    I’m not even exagerating by saing this guy posseses something like half of the record in challenges and maybe even overall. He was never voted out in a tribal, made 2nd, 2nd again, 3th and finally 1st but was not granted the title due to cheating last year. Lost in 2010 and 2012 cause of his social skills. He dominated but wasn’t really liked and receive only 1 vote both times in FTC. In 2020 (15 newbies and 5 returnees), he decided to stay in retreat, only assuring that he will get to the end and without having people despises him. He would have won had he won the FIC. And last season, the anniversary one is probably the biggest dominating season from someone in the show. I know how huge this statement is but Claude entered 2021 with at least 11 people of 20 who were close to him outside. This pregame is beyond everything and the most crazy about it : it wasn’t a pregame with multipliers layers and utterly complexe. No it was half a score who were licking the boots of Claude and another guy up until the end and we’re not talking about a bunch of nobodies. Never was Claude in danger nor his name was brought up.
    So about the records :
    - The record of the most number challenges won in solo overall : 23
    - Without RI, the record of must number wins in solo in a single season : 8
    - The record of the most immunities won overall : 10
    - The record of the most immunities won in a single season : 4 (i recall the last 2 challenges of a season are not counted as immunities)
    - And others if we look presicely in the challenges
    He was always the person who won the most challenges in each of his seasons. Gave some of the most impressive wins by how far forward he was compared to the others. And he’s a character, a real one that ain’t gonna make you sleep.
    Should we make him fight against Ozzy over all the solo challenges that occured in KL and SV, i guess Claude would win the most and will certainly lose on puzzles and water challenges. But all the other fields, you got to be in your best day to only think to give him a challenge.

    for those wondering, as of this moment Bruce Perreault currently has an unweighted WAR Score of 4.21, and a weighted WAR Score of 3.45. So he's not quite in the top 40 yet, being in 55th. He's actually right in between Malcom (54th), and Lindsay from S42 (56th).

Definitely the best female competitor that season and deserves to be high on this list.

    When I saw the video and spreadsheet, I went back to record the winners and close contenders for the challenges from seasons 43-46 to see if there are any possible additions to help with your process. From this, I have calculated:
    * 1 definite add-on for the best (Above 4.5 WAR score)
    * 3 more potential add-ons for the best (Between 3.5 and 4.5 WAR score & needs to play/win more future challenges)
    * 1 potential add-on for the worst (Under -2.5 WAR score that would need to play AND lose future challenges)
    Let me know if you are interested or want to make a calculated guess as to who those 5 are. (HINT: 43 doesn't have any players meeting the criteria)

      Is Bruce the best? Off the top of my head, without going through the numbers, I'm imagining the pool of top 4 would be something like Bruce, Frannie, Hunter, and maybe one of Austin or Dee? (People who won multiple challenges and had relatively dominant starting tribes across 44-46) I feel like I might be forgetting someone important/obvious though...
      For the worst, I'm thinking either Carolyn 44 or Emily 45 (outside chance for Tiffany 46)?

      Anecdotally, I feel like I'll probably revisit this video after season 50 and do a big update. The all-star seasons and returning players usually do a lot to shake up these listings, as a lot of the one-time promising players you noted tend to either fall out of contention or place themselves firmly into the leaderboard after their returnee showings. I think most changes would be pretty minor before then.

    • @ChrisEcho-s7r
      @ChrisEcho-s7r 2 месяца назад +1

      @@survivorflorida2858 Bruce was not one of the players I had on the list, but I can see the reasoning with him technically never going to a pre-merge tribal council. Austin is currently the best of the 43-46 group right now at the 4.5-4.9 range (depends on how to evaluate the "resourcefulness" arch challenge as a close win or not). Fun fact: The Reba 4 and Bruce are the only qualified contenders from season 45 that have a positive WAR score, according to my rough estimates.
      For the -3- *2* near qualified for the top 40s, I have Frannie and Hunter, -and -*-(surprise)-*- Carson! Yeah, Carson is currently at around 3.6, since his post-swap tribe, mergatory tribe, and the hamster-ball challenge group were all winners plus him basically becoming the one to beat after Frannie was voted out. Speaking of,- Frannie sits just above the 4.0 benchmark, but doesn't truly qualify under your stipulations (She has only participated in 11 challenges, while the lowest amount you were willing to give some confidence is with 13). As for Hunter, he is at exactly a 3.5 WAR score and he has also only participated in 11 challenges. All of them would to need above average tribe wins at the start for meet the standard.
      *UPDATE* : made a *BIG MISTAKE* and had Carson have one extra Immunity win. He actually is at 2.25 WAR score, so Bruce actually is right below Frannie and Hunter, though only with a 3.1 WAR score.
      Now for the bottom-feeders, one of the choices you got was correct , but let's see why the others weren't. Though Emily does fit many criteria of being seen as the weakest, she only has at worst a -1.0 WAR Score. Sean from her original tribe is worse (though to be fair he only played in half the challenges she was in) and 4th Place Katurah is basically at Emily's level, if not lower. Meanwhile, Tiffany ranks at around a -1.5 WAR Score, with only Bhanu ranking lower than her in her season (with the same stats as the aforementioned Sean). Both Emily and Tiffany also fall short of the confidence metric with only 12 Challenges. I'll add one more that you haven't considered that actually is lower than those two: Yam-Yam at -1.6.
      Sadly, Carolyn is at a -3.0 WAR score exactly. Here is the kicker: Emily won an individual challenge with the balancing maze, Yam-Yam with the last gasp challenge, and Tiffany was a contender for immunity on two other individual challenges (the balance on the A-frame and the carry one quarter of your weight). Carolyn: only three total wins out of the eighteen she participated in, all of which were team challenges. Her closest individual challenge win: a 2nd-place tie with 5 others, then mostly at the tail-end for the rest. I can already hear her screams unraveling herself from the twisty net from this follow up if she ever stays below -3.0. Good news, if she returns on the coin flip odds of 50-50 at tribe challenges, she would leave the bottom 17 (just... vote her out before individual challenges so she can't go down further).
      Lastly, do take your time on that follow-up video. I just felt like helping in some way to take a bit of workload off of you and relatively hard stats is probably the least objective. I can continue with on this comment thread for the next few seasons once they come out. Until then, thanks for the vids.

    If I knew it was going to be a physical challenge without a puzzle....I'd have a hard time not choosing Jonathan. What happens when you add a strength of competition factor? Would be easy since you already have all the war scores. Who had to face the toughest competitors based on their WARs? That would surely influence an individuals score. Bob for example.

    Really great video man and rare to see a ranking of every contestant of survivor. I believe it’s the first time i even see an all survivors ranked in challenges.
    I make this message in 3 comments cause it's too big
    Well, i saw in the sheet you also did others versions. There is another one which i think is the second biggest version of this game in number of seasons : Koh-Lanta, the french survivor.
    There’s been currently 28 seasons whom 6 are all-stars and waiting a 29th soon.
    We got also some great challenge beast, so i was wondering what will be their score.
    I’ve ranked all the french contestant, that being 408 people.
    Koh-Lanta is imo not as good as survivor as it is not as hard in strategy.
    However, it has incredible challenge beast and the score are high for some.
    Before giving the results, you must know that KL takes much more time for challenges and it is more valuable in the eyes of many. A huge lot came in KL for the challenges and winning a challenge represents a big achievement. There is a focus on the « sport » side of this game that is emphasizes compared to SV. One of the Top 20 challenge beast was even only relying on making an immunity run as its strategy.
    As for the challenges in themselves, there are a lot of same we can see in both versions. The biggest difference is the lack of puzzles. And there are challenges considered « sacred » because they appeared almost each season such as : « the sloth », « an obstacle course », « going through several beams upon the water ».
    And a finale is an orientation where the last one is eliminated and « the poles » where the winner choose directly after the challenge is over his opponent for the FTC.
    Thus, our legends are usually people who were impressive in challenges.
    Last thing to know, the sits-out are completely different. In France, you got to draw a rock between the members of a team. If you draw the black one, you sit out. You can draw the black rock several times in a row if you’re unlucky (the record is 5). Besides some exceptions, the teams have never chose who to sit-out. So often, it was the strongest element on the team who had to sit-out.
    So, for the most mediocre of them all, only 2 are under 4.
    Fabienne (2009, 2012) : -4,406 and Maud (2002, 2012) : - 4,74
    31 are above the score of 4.
    I’m not gonna present all of them but only a few.
    Jeremy (2016, 2018) : 4,59. Of the 31, there are 2 anomalies, Jeremy being the first. It’s thanks to his destroying teams in both seasons that it makes this list. He has never shown to be a significant part of these wins and for the individual part, it was fairly a let-down. Even in the F6 of his second season where he had no rival, he couldn’t win.
    Javier (2012, 2018) : 4,63. He’s the other intruder for the same reason.
    Maxime (2019, 2021) : he’s 15 with 5,99. This guy made an amazing first season although his season was pretty weak. He won 6 challenges out of 13 in solo and never made out of the podium.
    For the best 12, i’ll say something for each.
    12 : Yassin (2017, 2018) with 6,52 / Team : 5,57 (14,5/19 with 2 sits-out) / Individual : 2.48 (3/9 with 2 near-wins)
    He's the man that can be granted the title « the person who makes his team wins ». In his first season, he carried effortlessly his buddys to the merge before getting voted out (in a special way, when the merge hits, a member of each team must meet in order to eliminate someone. It’s called « the ambassadors », a mandatory step in a season. On paper it’s unfair and yes it is but it’s like that since 2009 so the players are all aware of it and must play having that in mind). So Yassin scared people. Then he returned and again obliterates the adversary. And again was voted out quite early in the merge. That explains his few individuals challenges played.
    11 : Grégoire (2007, 2010) with 6,66 / Team : -0,93 (8/19 with 0 sits-out) / Individual : 5,84 (7/19 with 5 near-wins)
    Aka the « white knight ». He migth be only 11 but this dude is considered a top 3 challenge beast for a lot of people. His first season basically, always made the podium and had no choice but to win every IC which he failed due to the fact that he had to compete against the best woman of KL. The second time, the AS was special, returnee againts newbies sport celebrity. That gave a horrendous season but a freaking one if we only keep the challenges.
    10 : Nicolas (2016) with 8,17 / Team : 4,89 (11/13 with 0 sits-out) / Individual : 4,06 (5/11 with 2 near-wins)
    A single-season run, will probably never be seen again cause he was boring to be honest.
    He has the record to the most days without going on tribal (until the merge), won all team IC and he’s a major reason to why. At the merge, he confirmed by being very regular and making some strong wins. As a player, he’s worth 0 though.
    9 : Phil (2012, 2014, 2021) with 8,55 / Team : 6,25 (18/25 with 0 sits-out) / Individual : 3,66 (7/41 with 8 near-wins)
    An another difference with SV is the number of individual challenges played. We hit pretty high with 41 for Phil and he’s just the third with the most IC played. In KL, instead of having the reward occuring in teams, they’re solo, increasing drastically the number overall.
    Phil is let’s say special. He went from unbeattable to the guy who can’t clutch to the man who is one of the worst of the 20th anniversary season (the 2021 one). Anyway in 2012, he was the incarnation of don’t judge a book by it’s cover. I’ll let you google him to understand.

    The second part :
    8 : Christina (2009, 2010, 2014) with 8,73 / Team : 5,13 (15/21 with 3 sits-out) / Individual : 4,36 (7/21 with 1 near-wins )
    She’s the recordwoman of number of indi wins in a single season with 6. However, her adversary wasn’t strong in the endgame in 2009 where she won most of her wins. The 2 come-backs, she got out quick after the merge but she was matching and gave good fights, so she deverves this place.
    7 : Freddy (2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2021) with 8,79 / Team : 3,37 (17/29 with 1 sits-out) / Individual : 5,28 (7/23 with 5 near-wins)
    A very big name of KL, he’s only really been in 4 seasons cause in 2021 he’s been evacuated medically in the first day due to a fall on shoulder during the challenge.
    A funny stat with Freddy, he won only 1 IC on 4 seasons. He is probably the best version any version of this game had known in the obstacle course kind of challenge. 4 wins came for that. Also a boost to have on your team, with him being pivotal.
    Now, we enter those above 10.
    6 : Bertrand (2008, 2012) with 10,23 / Team : 1,42 (8/14 with 3 sits-out) / Individual : 7,34 (9/29 with 8 near-wins)
    He obliterated his first season in teams and in solo. When he was’nt winning, he was close to, he proved in 2008 to be good at all kind of challenges then in 2012 confirmed his versality in a much competitive season. His main weakness is static. In water, the best with Grégoire no doubt, probably smashing everyone but Ozzy.
    5 : Martin (2011, 2014) with 10,84 / Team : 3,01 (11/17 with 2 sits-out) / Individual : 7,00 (9/25 with 5 near-wins)
    A millionaire’s son who was as good as a character as he was in challenges. He shares a similarity with Grégoire by having to face against someone in his first season who’s higher in this list (the number 2). Wonderful in almost every field, his negative side would be his regularity. A few times, he came in the bottom. As for the AS in 2014, he’s the one who came out in top against some big names such as Phil, Freddy, Christina or the number 2 of the ranking.
    4 : Jade (2007, 2009, 2021) with 10,86 / Team : 2,25 (14/25 with 1 sits-out) / Individual : 7,40 (10/40 with 10 near-wins)
    The queen of KL, the woman who stopped Grégoire from his IR, who gave a recital to her opponents in 2009 and who aged up in 2021 but was still a threat for the others for a win. And she never was voted out in 3 seasons : won, 2nd place and 4th place (eliminated in the feared challenge « orientation »).
    She never thrived in team, even seemed to be transparent some times. But in 2007 and 2009, she revealed herself, mainly in static challenges and especially in 2009 where she was in for the win for all the challenges.
    Had she won all her near-wins, she would have a percentage of 50% winning and this over 40 challenges, an absolute phenomenal statistic.
    3 : Ugo (2012, 2021) with 15,3 / Team : 3,3 (8/10 with 3 sits-out) / Individual : 10,2 (13/35 with 7 near-wins)
    This guy made 2 seasons so so so different, he went from a noname (and a noname who won, that tells you how UTR he was) to a freakin’ legend.
    In 2012, he was against prime Phil, got a running-gag with Ugo always finishing 2nd and Phil at the top. At the endgame, Ugo broke his chains and took 4 wins. So he made a good season but nothing that impressive. Would probably be around 15 had he hadn’t came back.
    And then goes the crazyness  2021 the anniversary season had the RI twist. Ugo was first voted out due to his total absence of pregame (as a player, he’s just a follower, quite boring). Well, in RI called the banished island, duels were by 3 in premerge and he won all but one where he got 2nd. He reenters the game and was protected first tribal then won 3 immunities in a row. At the final immunity which he lost, he was once again voted out. The next day, he simply smoked at the last challenge in RI his 2 opponents. So, he made his way back to the F5, no tribal concils, only 2 challenges. He won the orientation and lost the poles FIC and was not taken, went out third after being first boot. If we’re counting RI, he marked KL by having the record for the most challenges win in a single season, nine.
    And even with all that, when he was on the game during all the merge, he was less regular than the first rank and is beaten in a ratio.
